Movie Trailer Monday

A bunch of movie trailers, mostly for streaming services, have come out lately and seem to just be piling up on my bookmarks bar. I want to share them on the blog, because I really enjoy movie trailers myself. But rather than stretch the out for too long, let’s just dump them all on this glorious Monday!

First up is Rebel Moon: Part One: A Child of Fire, the big space epic from Zack Snyder.

Looks pretty good to me. It looks big, it looks epic, it looks small at the same time. It looks like a bunch of classic space opera tropes glued together. It looks like his kind of movie. I’m no Snyderhead, so I’m not about to bend over backwards in praise of this film. But I’ll probably gladly watch it when it comes to Netflix on Dec. 22.

Next up is Damsel, another movie coming to Netflix starring Millie Bobby Brown.

Not much to see yet with this movie. I think it’s taking the princess and dragon cliche and turning it into its own movie somehow. I suppose I could look up a plot synopsis and see for sure…but nah. I like Brown, I like the Enola Holmes movies, and I hope she does indeed find a good career after Stranger Things. Damsel is coming to Netflix next year.

Switching gears to Peacock, we have Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain.

I love the Please Don’t Destroy sketches on Saturday Night Live as much as the next person. They’re funny stuff. Granted, my love for these comedians took a big hit when I found out that two of them were nepo babies of longtime SNL alumni…but whatever. They’re still funny, and seeing them make a feature length streaming movie should be fun. Please Don’t Destroy comes to Peacock on Nov. 17…so this Friday!

Lastly, an actual movie in theaters, it’s The Fall Guy!

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt make a fun action comedy where a stuntman becomes a real action hero. Sounds fun, looks fun, and we’ll probably take any movie we can get next year after those strikes. Lot of hope going into this one.

The Fall Guy comes to theaters on March 1.

Live Action Last Airbender Looks Fantastic!

I was as skeptical as anyone else when Netflix announced they were making a live action remake of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was tried once before to ill effect. And it’s going to be a massive undertaking. But hot damn, this first trailer looks great.

Everything looks so darn good! It looks big, it looks dramatic, all the characters look great. Will the show get into the really silly, cartoony stuff? I suppose we’ll find out. Maybe it’ll be just the dramatic stuff. Maybe it’ll just be a few episodes from the first first of the cartoon? I have no idea, I just know that things are looking really cool.

Avatar: The Last Airbender comes to Netflix on Feb. 22.

The Scott Pilgrim Anime Looks Sweet

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is a month away and it looks pretty sweet. I love the movie, I enjoyed the comics well enough, and if Netflix wants to spend their money making a full-sized, movie cast-voiced Scott Pilgrim anime, I’m all for it. Should be a fun watch.

Some scenes are recognizable, but a lot of this trailer looks new and crazy. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World did a lot to capture the zaniness of the comic, but this anime is really going hard with it. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off should be a blast next month!

The anime comes to Netflix on Nov. 17.

New Wes Anderson Short Film Incoming

I’m a big Wes Anderson fan! I love his movies, I love their style, I love their energy and their humor; they’re great films. We already had Asteroid City released this year, which I very much enjoyed. And now we’re getting a new short film on Netflix, called The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

This is based on a Roald Dahl short story, which I haven’t read. Anderson already adapted The Fantastic Mr. Fox by Dahl, and is a big Dahl fan. So here’s hoping this Mr. Sugar bit is just as good. It’s not a full length movie, which is fine. I’ll take any Wes Anderson project he feels like putting out.

The Wonderful Story of Mr. Sugar comes to Netflix on Sept. 27.

There is a Lot Going on in Rebel Moon

Rebel Moon is director Zack Snyder’s next big opus, a mind-boggling space opera that’s going to be split into two parts and show up on Netflix at the end of the year. We’ve got our first teaser trailer and it is…a lot. I’m not entirely sure what’s happening, other than a bunch of space opera tropes all being grouped together into a pretty cool trailer.

It all looks visually cool, but this trailer is all over the place. Who is the main character? What is the time period? Are there multiples of everything? Who is rebelling? And against what? And on which moon?

Your guesses are as good as mine. Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire comes to Netflix on Dec. 22. The second part, The Scargiver, arrives on April 19.
