Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/1/22

Happy New Year, everybody! What a week, what a week…not much was happening and I kinda lazied my way into today. My comic book pile was very, very light this week. I considered picking up a couple extra comics just to beef up this pile of comic reviews, but maybe I just like being lazy. I did read a new issue of Amazing Spider-Man, at least.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Power Rangers #14 for a rip-roaringly cool chapter in the Eltarian War!

Oh yes, this is happening

Meanwhile, I beat the Guardians of the Galaxy video game and it was a hoot. Pretty fun game. It was mostly a big, enjoyable story with some interactive and shooting elements here and there. I think they did a great job with the characters, and there were a ton of really fun Marvel cameos and Easter Eggs. So enjoyable game overall. And I also enjoyed the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett. I’d say it’s off to a great start.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #83 and Power Rangers #14.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/25/21

Merry Christmas, everybody! It’s that magical sort of year when Christmas falls on a Saturday, coinciding with my comic book reviews! If you’re reading this on Christmas Day, more power to you! We had some nice comics this week, though everything is overshadowed by the stellar artistic achievements of the new issue of Nightwing.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #87 for an artistic achievement that will hopefully go down in legend.

Behold this thing of sheer beauty

Meanwhile, I loved the Hawkeye finale and will have a review up one of these days. It was quite joyous, and accomplished everything I could have wanted. Hawkeye is probably my second favorite of the Marvel shows right now, I enjoyed it that much. I also tried the first issue of Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit this week and it was not for me. It’s not terrible, but it’s a little wonky.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #82, Hawkeye: Kate Bishop #2, Nightwing #87 and X-Men: Trial of Magneto #5.

6 Thoughts on Spider-Man: No Way Home

Whoo baby, what a movie! I’ll admit to being mostly lukewarm about Marvel’s superhero movies this year, despite liking all of them. But now we have Spider-Man: No Way Home and I’m reminded by Marvel Studios is such a powerhouse of a production company! I’m reminded by Marvel Studios is so damn smart when it comes to utilizing their properties and bringing the very best movies to bear on the big screen. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a superhero movie marvel.

Movie Rating: 10/10 – Fantastic!

I cannot heap enough praise on this film. I have been watching Spider-Man movies all of my adult life. The first Tobey Maguire Spidey movie came out after my freshman year of college, and I haven’t missed a Spider-Man movie in the theaters since. And I’ve enjoyed them all. I even liked the Amazing Spider-Man movies. And I especially loved Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With No Way Home, these filmmakers have done the seemingly impossible. They have taken all of our nostalgia, all of our expectations, all of our hopes and dreams, and have put together a truly spectacular movie, and a truly amazing Spider-Man movie on top of that.

Join me after the jump for my full review and all my thoughts on Spider-Man: No Way Home. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the entire movie and some other Marvel stuff. And please feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/18/21

Well it happened. I saw Spider-Man: No Way Home. And it was amazing! It was spectacular! Oh man, it was better than I had any possible guess! No bloat. No wrong turns. Just pure greatness! Expect my full review on Wednesday, like usual.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Robin & Batman #2 because I am a sucker for some great Robin stories. There are a lot of such stories this week, but I prefer classic Batman and Robin stuff to all the Robins being a team.

“No, you’re going to lead it.”

Meanwhile, I started playing the Guardians of the Galaxy video game and it’s a lot of fun. Nothing groundbreaking or innovative, just a really fun, interactive story about the Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s neat. Also, I regret to report that I have finally dropped Wonder Girl. It’s just not for me.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #81, Batgirls #1, Robin & Batman #2, Robins #3 and Strange Academy #14.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/4/21

Good morning, everybody! We’re two weeks away from Spider-Man: No Way Home and I just got my booster shot yesterday. Life is good, and comics are plentiful. This week sees the likes of more Amazing Spider-Man, Wonder Girl and Trial of Magneto!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Darkhawk #4 for a very nice issue that finally stops and smells the roses. Not enough comics stop to smell all the roses they themselves are planting.

The new Darkhawk will never be this popular again

Meanwhile, I finished the live action Cowboy Bebop on Netflix and I was not impressed. It was a well-made show, but I felt nothing…other than feeling like going back and checking out the original anime. But then I totally loved the second half of Masters of the Universe: Revelations! Those story twists and that grand finale were some epic stuff, and it was all really damn cool. Those 10 episodes will be quick to binge if anybody hasn’t yet.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #80, Darkhawk #4, Wonder Girl #5 and X-Men: Trial of Magneto #4.
