I’m Thinking of Writing Less
So, uh, after more than a decade of randomly typing up nonsense in this personal, daily blog of mine, I’ve decided to start taking more of a step back. I’ve never been one to chase viewers or SEO or any of that, and honestly, that probably counted against me. I just don’t get many views, and numbers have been shrinking all years. And after several thousands of posts, I just don’t find it fun anymore. It’s work to try to post daily, even if all I’m doing is sharing a movie trailer or two.
I think I’m just going to post when I feel like it.
I don’t want to close up shop completely. I just want to break out of the rigid schedule I set for myself, where I needed to have a List of Six up every Wednesday, and then comic reviews every Saturday. As my List of Six page will tell you, I came up with mostly unique lists once a week for more than a decade! No repeats! That’s pretty darn impressive. And that archive will always exist for me and others to look back on.
And comic reviews; I really just reviewed things I enjoyed. If I wasn’t liking a comic, I’d drop it. So it was just me praising a bunch of comics I really loved. I can do that without forcing myself to write a weekly review column. I can highlight specific comics I’m enjoying, specific issues, and maybe even tpbs. I’ve got a big pile of trade paperbacks I need to read. Maybe I’ll talk about those!
Suffice to say, this isn’t goodbye. This is just me freeing myself from the rigid schedule I forced on myself for the past decade. This blog is never going to make me famous or rich, but it can remain a place for me to just write about what I want when I want. There will be more movie trailers, more Lists of Six and more reviews, just on a looser schedule.
I always told myself I didn’t want to stop writing on this blog because I knew my lazy butt wouldn’t replace it with anything, that I’d just do less things. But it’s time for me to start focusing on making my own comics. Gamer Girl & Vixen vol. 2 just had a successful Kickstarter and will come out this year. I’ve got a short story coming out soon in Scott Snyder Presents: The Cloakroom #1. And I’ve hired an artist to start working on Cover Bard #1, at long last. And I want to share all these projects with you on this blog, so I’m going to do more of that.
Thank you, everyone, for reading all this time. Feel free to pop back in from time to time to see what I post. I just want to be a little less strict on myself and focus more on my script writing. Here’s hoping that goes well!
Mostly all of this is just to say this week’s List of Six is gonna be my review of the new Fallout show, and I just haven’t finished the show yet.

Apparently I’ve Been Sleeping on This Abigail Trailer
I’m not a big horror movie guy. They’re just not my thing. So I don’t rush out to watch every new horror movie trailer that comes out, like I do superhero movie trailers. But I went to see Civil War this weekend — great movie! — and saw the trailer for Abigail for the first time. It looks like a lot of fun!
No spoilers from me, but be aware that this trailer will spoil the twist of the film, so don’t watch if you want to go in completely blind.
I love attitudes like the one in the trailer. Make it seem like the movie is on thing, then throw in a crazy twist! Then have the characters react to the twist with some real, almost fourth-wall breaking disbelief. The movie probably then turns into a pretty normal horror movie, but the trailer looks fun as hell! I might actually go to the theater to watch this one. We’ll see what I’m doing that weekend.
Abigail comes to theaters on April 19…which is this weekend! Oh okay.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/13/24
My readership numbers have been going down lately. Is anybody actually reading and enjoying these reviews? I know I don’t have any particularly interesting insights, but I do enjoy talking about comics. Including ThunderCats and Transformers!
Comic Book of the Week is Action Comics #1064, kicking off an awesome new Superman story that was teased some time ago.
Meanwhile, I’m still recovering from Episode 5 of X-Men ’97. Holy heck this show is good! And i’ve started watching Fallout, which is awesome. We’re feasting good these days! In the video game world, a friend of mine got me onto Evil Genius 2, which is a fun base-builder. It’s a nice game to lose a couple hours to.
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1064, ThunderCats #3 and Transformers #7.
Read the rest of this entryNo Sign of My Favorite Mutants in X-Force, NYX or Phoenix
The X-Men series of comics is going through one of their routine status quo changes — called From the Ashes — and we’re in the period of discovery where Marvel slowly reveals the rosters of the new team books. This is always an anxious time for me, personally, because while I will try all the new comics, my interest in them will depend largely on whether or not any of my favorite mutants appear as a character.
Marvel revealed the details of X-Force, NYX and Phoenix this week, and I’m still plum out of luck.
First up will be X-Force, written by Geoffrey Thorne and drawn by Marcus To.
In this comic, Forge is going to put together the next X-Force squad, comprised of Rachel Summers, Betsy Braddock, Sage, Surge and Tank, who may or may not be a new character. There will also be rotating guest stars, with Deadpool kicking things off. They’re gonna go on all sorts of X-Force-style missions, which is always fun.
Next up is Phoenix, a new Jean Grey comic, written by Stephanie Phillips and drawn by Alessandro Miracolo.
In this comic, Jean Grey has the Phoenix again, and she’s summoned into outer space from an emergency S.O.S. from Nova. That could be fun! Jean Grey and Nova team up to save some lives in outer space? Yeah, alright. No other characters were announced, so I suppose Mimic could be a quiet guest star, but probably not. Jean Grey is just gonna rock out in space for a while.
Lastly we have NYX, the teen hero comic, written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly, with art by Francesco Mortarino.
Taping into the original NYX, but not exactly, this comic will be about some young mutants making their way in the world of New York City. They’ve started with Ms. Marvel and teamed her up with Wolverine, Anole, Prodigy and, randomly, Sophie Cuckoo. I have not come around on Ms. Marvel as a mutant, but she does thrive living in the New York City metro area. So maybe it’ll work? She’s also lead small squads of teen heroes before. So we’ll see.
All of these comics are coming out in July, I think. We’ve still got Storm, Wolverine and X-Factor comics to reveal, but probably until next month. I’m holding out hope that X-Factor is my best shot at some Multiple Man action, but we’ll see.
Hope springs eternal.

I Actually Like the Trailer for Joker: Folie a Deux
I wasn’t a big fan of the first Joker movie. It was dark and misanthropic, which is what it was going for, and just wasn’t my cup of tea. Well we’re getting a sequel that introduces Harley Quinn, played by Lady Gaga, and now we’ve got our first trailer! And I actually like this trailer.
I’m a big fan of musicals, and turning Joker 2 into a musical should be a hoot. They definitely turned it into a good musical trailer. Will that mean the movie is good? I don’t know. I doubt these films will ever be my cup of tea. But I shall never yick somebody else’s yum. So huzzah this movie!
Joker: Folie a Deux comes to theaters on Oct. 4.
