6 Thoughts on the Avengers Academy Mobile Game
Once upon a time, superhero video games were a rare and sometime special occasion — especially if the game was any good. But now, superheroes are everywhere, and while we haven’t had that big budget, A-List Avengers console game, Marvel is going gangbusters in the mobile app market. There are fighting games, team-building games, card games and more, all advertising excellent superhero action.
I’m now a month deep into their latest offering, Avengers Academy, and I wanted to list out a little review.
Avengers Academy is a free-to-play city building game that recasts the Avengers as college or high school students. It’s a bright and colorful game that has you sending the Avengers on missions throughout the day, while buying new buildings to put on campus. At the moment, we’re right in the middle of the first big game event, featuring the Leader, A-Bomb and Red Hulk attacking the campus.
Avengers Academy is free to download from your mobile game store of choice. But join me after the jump to see whether or not you should.
The World of Comics Just Got a Lot More Adorable
It’s the crossover I never knew I wanted, but now I can’t think of anything better. DC Comics and BOOM! Studios are going to work together to crossover Lumberjanes and Gotham Academy in a summer mini-series! Village Voice has the details on the creative team!
This is beyond cool. Like…I don’t even know how to describe how cool this is. An inter-company crossover? How does that even happen?! How does the universe allow such greatness to exist? I live in the universe, I know how horrible it can be.
We’re not supposed to have nice things!
But maybe, just maybe, the Lumberjanes and the students of Gotham Academy can team up and go on an adventure into our imaginations!
Starting in June.

The Current Ninja Turtles Cartoon Is Everything One Could Want From the Ninja Turtles
Back in the 1980s, the Ninja Turtles were my jam. I watched all the cartoons, from Real Ghostbusters to Transformers to G.I. Joe. But The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were my #1. And I’m under no impression that those old cartoons hold up today. That’s why I open my mind to accept all the new and different versions of the Turtles. I love the IDW comics, I enjoy the Michael Bay movies, and I’m a huge fan of the cartoon on Nickelodeon. Not only is it a fun series, but there’s rich in Turtles lore and tributes!
And now they’re going full tilt, with an insane 2D/3D crossover between the Turtles of now and the Turtles of old! Here’s a clip!
If only the Michael Bay Turtle movies were this clever. And that’s the original voice actors from the 80s, too!

American History is About to Magic the Heck Up!
It’s happening, folks. Not to get too patriotic on all of you, but the Wizarding World of JK Rowling is about to come to America in a huge way! With the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them trilogy in the works (yes, trilogy), Rowling is going to use her Pottermore website to give everybody the inside peek into the history of magic in these United States.
Apparently, the major magic school name in America is Ilvermorny, which makes no sense. What kind of name is that? But I’ll learn to love it. As long as my future kids get their invitation letters to Ilvermorny when they turn 11. I assume that part is the same…but…but it might not be!
We’re embarking on a fascinating new world here!

Gamer Girl & Vixen is Going Back to Kickstarter!
Hey there, comic book and blog fans! I’ve got some big news on the future of my own project, Gamer Girl & Vixen! We’re going back to Kickstarter on April 2! This time, we’re going to publish a gorgeous, full color, 100-page GG&V graphic novel!
So save the date!
We had a huge outpouring of support last year to kick off this project, and we’re going even bigger this time around.
Gamer Girl & Vixen is an LGBT-friendly comic about love, lesbians and larceny! When two costumed crooks meet cute on their college campus, they decide to go into the burglary business together. But playful flirting and brushes with adventure lead to real feelings. It’s a supervillain romance!
Making this comic has been such a huge blast. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, and with Gamer Girl & Vixen, I’m finally getting out there and making it happen. I hope I can convince you all to help support the project next month.
To kick off the campaign this year, we’re offering everyone a FREE COPY of Gamer Girl & Vixen #1! Join our mailing list and you’ll be given a link to download the first issue! Read it for yourself, see what all the fuss is about. Then mark your calendar for April 2!
