Good news, everybody! Gamer Girl & Vixen Volume 2 has started production! New series artist Andrea Rosales has been given the greenlight to get started on a 9-page preview for the next volume, which I can’t wait to share with you all in the weeks to come! I am very excited to be making comics again and I need to be better about using my blog to brag about my work.
For those of you who don’t know, Gamer Girl & Vixen is my self-published comic that I write with my friend Kristi McDowell. We started a few years ago and managed to produce our own graphic novel, which is still available to order from our online store.
Gamer Girl & Vixen is the story of two super-villains who meet cute on the rooftops of New York and use their powers to rob celebrities!
It’s also much more than that! It’s an LGBTQ+ love story about two cat burglars who hook up to commit crimes and get busy! It’s got character drama, romance, thievery and costumed fisticuffs!
Volume 2 is going to continue the story as our main characters get into even more trouble. Now that they’re the hot new super-villains on the scene, they attract the attention of some bigger, more established baddies. I can’t wait to introduce the world to our new villain: Tyrannosaurus Regina!
I am beyond thrilled at how Regina has turned out as a character. She sees herself as the Beyonce of Crime, a rising star dedicated to her work. And she sees in Gamer Girl & Vixen the chance to boost her popularity and add some new talent to her crew.
Her crew is Jurassix! They’re a notorious crime band, pulling off major heists and then rocking out on stage at some underground super-villain clubs. Regina is lead vocalist, with the Hammer Sisters on guitar and bass, and Monkeyshines on drums.
And those are the major new characters for Volume 2! There will be at least one more major new character in the comic, but we don’t have him fully designed just yet. And there are plenty more characters to come in the Gamer Girl & Vixen universe!
I’m going to try and do a better job of keeping you henchies up to date on new developments in my comic. You’re always my strongest supporters and I hope you enjoy reading my comic as much as you enjoy reading my blog, assuming you enjoy reading my blog.
I’m just full of such assumptions!
Meet the latest edition to the cast of Gamer Girl & Vixen: Tyrannosaurus Regina! I’m rather proud of this character. I’m surprised nobody has ever used that name before in comics! Well this is me, claiming that name for all posterity! Tyrannosaurus Regina is the next hit villain sensation, and she’ll be debuting in volume 2 of Gamer Girl & Vixen!
My writing partner, Kristi McDowell, and I are already hard at work writing the script for volume 2. And we’ve got artist Gemma Moody and letterer Taylor Esposito back on board. Gemma designed T-Regina up there and she looks gorgeous and killer! Gemma has such a great eye for design.
I’ll have more information about volume 2 soon. Basically, Gamer Girl and Vixen are going to find out there’s a lot more to being a super-villain than just going on fun capers and robbing celebrities. There are some seriously dangerous bad guys out there, and they mean business!
Volume 1 is still available to purchase. Have you read it yet? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Great news, everybody! My graphic novel, Gamer Girl & Vixen, is now available to order! After a year of raising money, writing the story, dazzling at the artwork, getting it printed and fulfilling all of our Kickstarter obligations, the first volume of my own, self-published comic is here!
And it’s gorgeous!
I could not be more thrilled with how this turned out. The art is spectacular! It’s colorful and crisp in all the right ways. And I’m still in love with the writing. I love this comic! I am so excited for it!
For those who don’t know, Gamer Girl & Vixen is my first original comic book. It’s written by myself and my writing partner Kristi McDowell, with art by Gemma Moody and lettering by Taylor Esposito.
It’s about two super-villains who meet cute on the rooftops of New York and use their powers to rob celebrities! It’s a fun new LGBTQ love story in a pop culture landscape that is severely lacking in those!
Through two separate Kickstarter campaigns over the past three years, we raised enough money to make a full, 100-page graphic novel. And it’s beautiful. We found a really great printer and the comic looks and feels like a real graphic novel! This isn’t some cheaply printed paperback. This comic will look damn good on your graphic novel shelf!
So head on over to our online store to order your own copy!
And if you want to get a preview before you buy, we offer that as well!
Earlier this month, I attended my first ever comic book convention with my own series, Gamer Girl & Vixen, and I had a blast! The convention was held in the public library in Haverhill, Massachusetts, the hometown of my pal and co-writer Kristi McDowell. This was Kristi’s second convention with GG&V, and our first time teaming up to have an actual table.
Here we are decked out in geeky gear and comic book merchandise!
I had a great time behind the table, meeting fans and trying to sell them on our comic. We sold a couple issues, gave away some postcards, signed a few people up for our newsletter. It was a lot of fun meeting and talking to people about the comic, telling them what it’s about and answering their questions. We had some fans who’d already heard of us, because Kristi’s local comic book shop in Haverhill is selling Gamer Girl & Vixen on the shelves. And we had a lot of people who just discovered us that day.
I think the most memorable encounter I had was a young girl with half her face painted like Venom (complete with teeth and tongue!). She specifically stopped her father walking past so that she could come over and flip through our comic. She left with a postcard. That was pretty darn cool. And there were adults who were interested, kids who just liked the pretty colors, and at least one super fan who kept coming back to talk to Kristi (and one guy who kept coming back pleading about not having any money to buy anything…).
Seeing as how the convention was held in a library, there were a lot of kids, and it was really cool to see them check out our comic. Granted, there are some swear words in our book, but I’m totally cool selling that sort of thing to kids. They’ll be fine. I like to give kids a lot of credit when it comes to stories.
I had a great time and a lot of fun. We plan to be at a few smaller conventions throughout the year, and visit a few big ones in the Northeast. Those big ones are a little too expensive for us now, but next year we plan to hit them and hit them hard with our new Gamer Girl & Vixen graphic novel! So stay tuned for more news!
I am very excited to announce that the Gamer Girl & Vixen graphic novel is fully funded as of this morning! It was another hard-fought campaign, but in the end, thanks to fans like you henchies, we blew past our fundraising goal and raised more than $11,000 on Kickstarter! I get to make more comics!
I want to thank everyone who ordered my comic and has been supportive over the years as I plug away at this blog. If this experience has taught me anything, it’s that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. They can be achieved, you’ve just got to get out there and do it. I wish I’d started writing comics years ago. But this is good enough for now. I can’t wait to share our hardwork with everyone. So stay tuned, more Gamer Girl & Vixen news is on the way! For now, I enjoy a well-earned victory!
