Dave Made a Maze Looks Like a Pretty Creative Movie
I’ve been making it a point to see more movies this year, largely just because I like seeing movies. And it helps that my town has added an art house movie theater. So there’s a very good chance I’ll be able to see Dave Made a Maze in theaters.
I’ve only heard a little bit about this film, but it looks and sounds exactly like the sort of quirky, weird movie I wanna watch.
It’s supposed to come out on Aug. 17, but who knows in what theaters.

Strong Guy Watch: It’s Spreading!
Welcome back, faithful comic book fans, for all the latest Strong Guy news! Why am I giving you news on Strong Guy, one of the most obscure and underused X-Men of all time? Because I think it’s pretty hilarious! Also, I’m a big fan.
As I’ve detailed over the past few months, the mutant Strong Guy has been making odd background appearances in a lot of Marvel Comics lately. He often just shows up, usually as part of a group, and rarely says a word. It’s like some edict went out across Marvel to just use Strong Guy in the background of stuff. As a longtime Strong Guy fan, I found this rather neat. It’s the most action he’s ever gotten outside of X-Factor.
And this week, we have a super neat appearance! For some reason, the Strong Guy Edict has reached the Spider-Man office! Behold, Amazing Spider-Man #30!
That’s Strong Guy joining a couple other X-Men to try and defend Horizon Labs from Superior Octopus at the start of Secret Empire! Strong Guy vs. Doc Ock? Cool!
Oh, wait!
Now, as we all know, and as surely Amazing Spider-Man writer Dan Slott knows, Strong Guy’s mutant powers are based on absorbing kinetic energy and transforming it into crazy musculature. So when Strong Guy lands, his body is going to absorb a metric ton of energy and likely blow up his body to a crazy degree!
And as we know from Strong Guy’s past, that sort of thing can be pretty traumatic.
Perhaps that is the origin of his Secret Empire beard? Is it a trauma beard?
This untold Strong Guy story just keeps getting more exciting and deep!

6 Thoughts on Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man: Homecoming was great! Hilarious, energetic, with great characters, swell actors and some awesome superheroic action. It’s very reassuring to have a great Spider-Man move in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was wonderful in his introductory cameo in Captain America: Civil War. And I’m quite pleased to say that Marvel has continued that magic with a feature film.
Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great.
I want to go see the movie in theaters again before it’s gone, though this month is jam-packed with movies. War for the Planet of the Apes, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, The Big Sick, Dunkirk; it’s a great month for movies! But I’ll try to squeeze in a bit more Spider-Man: Homecoming. It was just that damn good and fun.
Join me after the jump for my thoughts/review of Spider-Man: Homecoming! Expect full SPOILERS, so be careful!
Oh Hey, So I Finally Noticed Stingray in Secret Empire
I like the Marvel superhero Stingray. He’s a cool guy. Probably my favorite Avenger of all time. And he’s so obscure, he just doesn’t pop up all that often. When he does, I like to take note of it, because this is my blog, and I’m free to make wildly uninteresting (except to a few people) posts on it.
In Secret Empire #5, which came out a week or two ago, but which I only just read, Stingray shows up in charge of the shields at the resistance’s secret base. He apparently made a brief appearance in Secret Empire #1, but I guess I missed it. No matter, though, I’m fully on board the Stingray Watch now!

I’m surprised too!
I’ll let you all know if and when he shows up again. Maybe he won’t. Maybe they’ll kill him. I don’t know, but I do care.
Stingray rules! I’m glad he’s not a HYDRA fascist!

Squirrel Girl Has Been Cast!
Attention, attention, all ye geeks everywhere! Marvel has cast Squirrel Girl for their extended Cinematic Universe! She’s gonna appear on a New Warriors TV show on Freeform, but let’s not hold that against her!
Squirrel Girl will be played by actor Milana Vayntrub. I have no idea who that is.

Vayntrub has starred in a ton of stuff, according to IMDB. Most recently, she was in This Is Us, which I haven’t seen. But I bet I’ve seen her on College Humor!
So bully on her. Squirrel Girl is awesome and I hope the show can do her justice.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, all the other roles have been cast as well. There’s Derek Theler as Mister Immortal, Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher, Callum Worthy as Speedball, Matthew Moy as Microbe and Kate Comer as Debrii. Good on them!
The show will last 10 episodes and is about a bunch of young people coping with young people life and super-powers. Here’s hoping it’s a good show!
