Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/11/17
We’re less than a week away from the Justice League movie! Will it be terrible? Can a third weekend of Thor: Ragnarok defeat it at the box office? I kind of hope so! To celebrate, lets read some Batman, Mister Miracle, Ms. Marvel and Runaways comics!
Comic Book of the Week goes to the latest issue of Harley Quinn! The creative team really delivers a stunning cliffhanger to take us into the final issues. It’s exactly what this comic needed!
So are they all stacked up on top of each other?
I also highly recommend checking out this week’s issue of Unbeatable Squirrel Girl! I didn’t review the issue because it’s a smattering of short vignettes, possibly done to raise money for a charity? It’s hard to tell, but the stories are delightful!

I Don’t Care for Porgs
I don’t care for Porgs. I don’t get the hype. I mean, to some extent, I can understand the hype. Porgs are obviously super cute. But surely we all realize that they were manufactured that way, right? Like, Star Wars didn’t need a super cute race of tiny aliens for The Last Jedi.
Disney manufactured a super cute, hugely marketable nonsense creature for the sole purpose of suckering people into liking them unconditionally.
They’re like Furbies. No, they’re worse than Furbies. They’re Funzos.
Remember Funzos? Has The Simpsons taught us nothing?
If you’re into these Porg things, by all means, more power to you. I hope they have a meaningful contribution to The Last Jedi. But just on their own, as clearly manufactured nothings that serve no purpose and are probably just Minions rip-offs, I can’t believe how popular they seem.
And this is coming from a guy who likes the Ewoks.

Check Out Jodie Whittaker’s New Doctor Who Duds!
The Doctor Who outfit is a very important part of the character, not least of which because it’s going to be cosplayed like nobody’s business! So we’ve all been eagerly awaiting the fashion choices of the first female Doctor, as played by Jodie Whittaker!
Well here we go!
I don’t like it.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of a female Doctor and Jodie Whittaker in the role. But suspenders over a T-shirt? With those high-waisted pants? Eehhhhhh. I’ve seen some people online mention that it looks like the sort of outfit a 2,000-year-old man with bad fashion sense who suddenly finds himself having to dress as a woman would put together, and I suppose that makes sense. But it could have been more stylish.
I dig the long coat, though.
Of course, I loved Peter Capaldi’s initial look, with the suit, the red insides and the Doc Martens, only for his Doctor who rarely ever wear that outfit. I never liked his weird dotted casual shirt.
So here’s hoping the 13th Doctor gets some options going forward!

Stranger Things 2 is Just as Good!
I finally finished Stranger Things 2 the other day, and it’s really good! I enjoyed the show immensely. And here’s an Honest Trailer for Season 1!
I love me some good TV shows! Stranger Things definitely counts.

6 Thoughts on Thor: Ragnarok
Unlike apparently the entire rest of the world, I thoroughly enjoyed Thor: The Dark World. I don’t know when it became popular to hate on that movie because I remember all of us loving it just fine when it came out. Thor: The Dark World was not declared Marvel’s First Failure when it hit theaters so I think people only dislike it in hindsight.
But it doesn’t matter, because now we’ve got Thor: Ragnarok and the world is bright and beautiful again!
Movie Review: 8/10 – Very Good.
Obviously, Thor has never been the biggest franchise at Marvel. I’ve never been a particularly big Thor fan. So the third Thor movie was probably the perfect place to let a new, visionary director come in and make something really wild and amazing. I bet some studio executive somewhere decided Marvel needed to mix the manic, colorful energy of Guardians of the Galaxy with the Avengers characters directly, giving us director Taika Waititi’s gorgeous Ragnarok (also, if you haven’t seen his other movies, go see them!).
