The Velma Halloween Special is Real and It’s Here
As one of the only people on the internet who legitimately enjoys the TV show Velma, I was excited to find out that the Halloween special was real. This was a single rumor months ago and then I never heard anything else, to the point that I thought it wasn’t real and wouldn’t happen.
But then, surprise! They released a trailer at the start of the month to no fanfare, announcing the show would come out on Oct. 3! So I watched it this weekend and enjoyed it.
Oh also, this trailer has all sorts of spoilers for the ending of season 2.
I like Velma. It’s a fun show and a great Scooby Doo prequel story. It’s crass and funny and has good mysteries. Don’t listen to the haters and watch it for yourself. I never knew people were so sacred about Scooby Doo, which has had more alternate takes than the Ninja Turtles.
Anyway, the Halloween special is now on Max for everyone to watch! And let’s hope we get a season 3!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/5/24
Last time I only reviewed X-Men comics, so this time i’m only reviewing DC Comics. It’s a big month for DC, as they kick off their new All In initiative. And I’m getting on the ground floor with the new one-shot special!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #153 for a truly excellent start to the new storyline, starting with a pretty nice clean slate.
Meanwhile, I’m loving The Penguin, enjoying Agatha All Along and have stalled a bit playing Star Wars Outlaws. I’m at just about the end game, but got distracted with some other games on the side that do stealth much better. Heh. Perhaps I’ll finish the game off for good this weekend, but then I won’t have another game to play until next year! I’ll need to find something on sale somewhere…
Comic Reviews: Batman #153, DC All In Special #1 and Plastic Man No More: Book Two.

It’s Friday. The weekend is here. So I thought I’d share a couple of really fun TV trailers that came out this week. First up is the new trailer for the sixth and final season of What We Do In The Shadows! Such a fun show, and the final season looks just as good as always.
The movie was great, the show is great; this is one for the books and it’s always nice for a show to actually get to six seasons these days. What We Do In The Shadows returns to FX on Oct. 21.
Next up is the second season of Shrinking, a very good show on AppleTV+.
Shrinking was my runner-up favorite show from last year. It’s that damn good! And I can’t wait for a second season. Now if only Apple would give us the second season of Severance…But Shrinking will do for now!
Shrinking season two returns on Oct. 16.

Looks Like I’m Getting My Robin Film
Out of nowhere yesterday, James Gunn, the current grand poobah of DC Studios, announced that they’re going to make a film about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd as Robins. Longtime readers of this blog know that I really like Robin — perhaps too much — and I’m super excited to be getting some type of serious Robin project. It’s gonna be called Dynamic Duo.
All we know about the movie so far is that it’s going to be the first feature film by Swaybox, a company that does a combination of puppetry and CGI for their animation. You can check out their website to see what their style is like. Personally, I think it’s perfect for this type of project.
I’ve always felt that Robin’s story is much better than people give it credit for. Can’t say as how I think it would be a good idea to do Dick and Jason in the same movie for some reason…instead of just Dick and Batman. But I’m going to have to trust James Gunn and Matt Reeves on this one. And I totally do!
Now we just need Robin to show up in the Reevesverse…

John Wick 5? Nah, Just Ballerina
We knew this was coming, and here it is: Ballerina, a spin-off movie from the world of John Wick. In fact, that might be the full title of the movie — From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. That’s an even worse mouthful than “A Knives Out Mystery.”
Looks fun. While I enjoy the John Wick movies as action films, I am not in love with them like some fans. I didn’t care for John Wick 4. But this perhaps means Ballerina will be all action and less John Wick mythology? I dunno. It looks action packed. It also looks like a simple attempt to just make another John Wick movie. At least Ana De Armas is awesome.
Ballerina comes to theaters June 6.
