Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/24/18
Allow me to use this space as a warning to all: don’t get old! Apparently I’ve developed seasonal allergies! Ugh! This sucks! I want my face back!
Anyway, buncha fun comics this week, from Batman to Ms. Marvel to a big and epic Mighty Thor. Comic Book of the Week was a tough call between the delightful new issue of Runaways and the dramatic Mighty Thor, but I think Thor gets a nudge ahead for being such a milestone issue.
I’m so glad writer Jason Aaron is sticking with Thor for the forseeable future, though I’m disappointed that artist Russell Dauterman is leaving the series. Wherever Dauterman goes next, it’s bound to be amazing.
Comic Reviews: Batman #43, Mighty Thor #705, Ms. Marvel #28 and Runaways #7.
Deadpool 2 Still Looks Good!
A new Deadpool 2 trailer randomly arrived yesterday afternoon…and here it is!
This new trailer shows off a ton of new footage, including the creation of X-Force! No real explanation for who the new mutants are, though, which is too bad. We want X-cameos! At least everything still seems pretty funny.

So They’re Probably Going to Kill Strong Guy
I don’t know this for a fact, but it’s the only conclusion to draw from the latest comic book solicitations: Marvel is going to kill Strong Guy in the June issue of New Mutants.
That’s the cover. Here’s the solicitation blurb:
- FUNERAL FOR A NEW MUTANT!
- Following the tragic events of last issue, THE NEW MUTANTS come together to bury one of their own.
- Can the team put aside their differences long enough to avenge their fallen teammate, or will this loss tear them apart?
- Featuring guest appearances by all your favorite X-MEN characters as they come to say goodbye… Or do they?
So somebody is going to die in an upcoming issue of New Mutants. There are only five members on the team: Strong Guy, Magik, Boom Boom, Rictor and Wolfsbane. Theoretically, any of them could die, but let’s look at the evidence.
On the cover, the skeletons of all the characters are in action poses — except for Strong Guy, who appears to be falling backwards. That’s a pretty big clue.
The second and most important factor is that I like Strong Guy, so of course he’s going to be the one to die. Remember, June is the month when the new Multiple Man comic is going to debut. I’m super excited about that.
But of course, in the same month where Multiple Man returns, his best friend, Strong Guy, has to die. That’s how the universe balances my comic fandom. I’m not allowed to have nice things. Even when the same writer is writing both the Multiple Man comic and New Mutants, and could bring together their reunion. That’s not going to happen.
Within a week of revealing Multiple Man was coming back from the dead, Marvel killed Phil Urich.
I am not allowed to have nice things in comics!

Top 6 “Red” Superheroes
Let’s talk colors! Right now, it’s freezing cold in Upstate New York, and that’s not going to change anytime soon — even though yesterday was the first day of Spring! I could use some heat, so I think I’ll do another color list in flaming hot red!

I like doing themed lists. I had a Blue List and a Green List, and now I want to do a list of all the best comic book characters to have the word ‘Red’ in their superhero name. Because I find it incredibly weird and slightly silly that adding a color as an adjective to a superhero’s name is a legitimate phenomenon. It’s just plain neat how comics work!
Join me after the jump for the coolest, and sometimes the weirdest, red comic book characters.
A Really Good Internet-Based Chuckle
I’m a bit busy at work this week and don’t have a lot of free time to share fun Internet stuff on my blog. Fortunately, this hilariously short video popped up from Mr. Sunday Movies! I love that guy!
And I love this meme. So everything is pretty good right now. Hopefully that Christopher Robin movie is going to be OK.
