Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/23/19
Welcome to a comic review article where I basically rant ceaselessly about why I don’t particularly care for all of the comics this week. I didn’t plan it that way. It’s just how everything is panning out. Last week was all about comics I loved and adored, this week is apparently all about comics I have major problems with, like Captain Marvel and Naomi.
In better news, I finally got caught back up to Jason Aaron’s Thor in time for War of the Realms. I’m so glad I did, and I’m hugely disappointed in myself for ever stopping. I missed some great comics! Thor #11 wins Comic Book of the Week!
Meanwhile, that Spider-Man: Life Story comic started, but I think I’m going to trade wait for that one. Chip Zdarsky and Mark Bagley are telling the story of Peter Parker through the decades, as if he aged in real time after debuting in the 1960s. It sounds awesome…but it also sounds like a solid collected edition read.
Comic Reviews: Captain Marvel #3, Guardians of the Galaxy #3, Naomi #3, Thor #11 and West Coast Avengers #9.
Just, Like, a Bunch of New Movie Trailers
I don’t know what’s happening, but a ton of new movie trailers came out this past week. Avengers: Endgame is a month away. Are they gearing up to go before Us? Maybe!
Also, a surprising number of these trailers feature Ian McShane. Good for him!
First, here’s a trailer for John Wick 3: Parabellum.
I don’t know what the subtitle is about. Why does John Wick 3 need an awkward, cumbersome word tacked onto the end? Either way, it’ll hopefully be a fun film. They managed to stretch the first John Wick into one sequel, let’s see if they can do it for a threequel!
Next up is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Quentin Tarantino makes good movies and this one should be no different!
Lastly, there’s finally a trailer for the finally made Deadwood movie on HBO! How insane is it that this actually exists?
Deadwood is a great TV show that ended with a stilted third season. They were ramping up for something big, then HBO pulled the plug and left the show and viewers dangling in the cold. Now, seemingly against all odds, they’ve all come back for a wrap-up movie a decade or so later. It’s madness!
But you’re damn right I’m gonna watch, you hoopleheads!

There’s More Stranger Things Coming, It’s Gonna Be Awesome!
The third season of Stranger Things will arrive on the Fourth of July! That’s months away, granted, but it’ll be here before we know it!
Looks awesome! Looks exciting, looks dramatic, looks like more Stranger Things goodness. I’m as much a fan as the rest of humanity, so I’m excited. Bring it on!

The Top 6 Bigfoots in Comics
Sasquatches. What’s up with them, huh? Crazy, amiright? I don’t particularly believe in Bigfoot, but I’m open to the idea. Life is just more fun like that. And I’ve decided to do a List of Six of the best sasquatches in comics.
That’s a picture of the most famous sasquatch-related superhero, Sasquatch of Alpha Flight. But he’s not going to be on this list, because Sasquatch isn’t really a sasquatch. He’s a human imbued with the powers of the great gods of the north in Canada. But keep him in mind, because one entry on this list is going to be a little surprising…
Join me after the jump for the best actual Bigfoots in comics!
Temptation Comes for Woody Again in Toy Story 4
Man, Woody really has a hard time learning his lesson, doesn’t he? How many times is Woody going to be tempted into settling for a life beyond belonging to his chosen child? And how many times is he going to go back to that child?
At least once more, it seems. Here comes Toy Story 4!
I like the Toy Story films as much as the next person, but it’s OK to let a good thing come to an end at the appropriate time. What’s the driving story this time? That Woody has to be tempted by life in a carnival? Instead of in a museum or in a daycare? What the heck would Woody even do in a carnival?
Not to mention all the weird existential questions that arise from the introduction of Forky. The Toy Story universe doesn’t need any more existential questions!
