Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/14/22
Now this is more like it! Finally a week with a bunch of comics, and most of them thoroughly enjoyable! That’s what I like to read. We’ve got the likes of Mighty Morphin and X-Men to enjoy!
Comic Book of the Week goes to The Jurassic League #1 for a truly wonderful, full-bore dive into this silly and enjoyable idea. Stand aside, apes! The age of the dinosaur is here!
Meanwhile, I’ll be seeing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for a second time today. Can’t wait! And I just finished all five seasons of The Last Kingdom on Netflix. Very enjoyable show. I’m in between video games at the moment, so if you have any suggestions, let me know. Perhaps I should try Elden Ring…
Comic Reviews: Batgirls #6, The Jurassic League #1, Mighty Morphin #19, Superman: Son of Kal-El #11 and X-Men #11.

Those mad geniuses at LEGO have pulled off another miracle. They’re producing an Optimus Prime LEGO set that fully transforms from robot to truck. And not by disassembling the model and rebuilding it. They found a way transform him without taking anything apart; and it’s similar to the original toy transformation as well!
Oh man, what a joy to behold. You can check out more pictures and information at the official LEGO site. I’m buying this baby as soon as I can — and I already just spent a bunch of money on that LEGO Tallneck from Horizon Forbidden West! C’mon, LEGO! Cut me some slack!
But yeah, this baby looks gorgeous. The detail is fine, the cool factor is through the roof and the fact that it can transform is unbelievable. Some knock-off brick brand made Transformers a couple of years ago. And here comes LEGO to show them how it’s really done.
LEGO Optimus Prime comes out on June 1, only a couple of weeks away. I’ll be out of town on that day, so I’ll have to hope I can snag a copy sometime later. The whole thing is going to cost $170, which is fine by me. Just give me transforming LEGO Optimus Prime!

6 Thoughts on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Review)
Who could have imagined that Doctor Strange would eventually be the elder statesman of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? His first film was really good, but hardly star-making material. But then he’s been a major player in Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home. So here comes his official sequel, ready to make big bank as another Marvel hit!
Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great.
I really enjoyed this film, especially by the end. I’ll admit to being a bit hazy in the first half. But the madness and the creativity of the second half really won me over and I had a great time overall. Granted, I’m a sucker for all these Marvel projects. I fully admit that and have no shame in it. It’ll be a cold day in the world when I dislike a Marvel movie or TV show. Thankfully, that day has not yet arrived!

One of the biggest reveals from the new Doctor Strange movie was the trailer for the first sequel to Avatar. I’m as shocked as anyone that this movie is actually coming out. I’ve always found it rather funny that Avatar was the highest grossing movie of all time for a long time, yet it left next to no cultural footprint. And then director James Cameron kept promising half a dozen sequels, adding to the joke.
But here’s our first look at Avatar: The Way of Water.
So I guess all the big blue alien people are gonna go swimming this time around? They spent a lot of the first movie flying. So why not spend some movie swimming? And they’ll do it in 3D! And then we’ll all have to live with a return of crappy 3D movies. Doctor Strange 2 had a 3D showing in my theater this past weekend. What’s up with that?!
Avatar: The Way of Water comes out on Dec. 16.

Surprise, Surprise, There’s Going to be a New Doctor Who!
Jody Whittaker’s time as The Doctor is coming to an end at the end of the year, and now the BBC has announced her replacement: Ncuti Gatwa. Hooray for him!
Gatwa will, obviously, be the first Black male to portray The Doctor, and that’s perfectly fine by me. I am definitely not one of those losers whining about The Doctor no longer being a straight, white male. Get out of here with that nonsense.
I don’t know anything about Gatwa and I never watched his main show, Bad Education. So when he shows up, his acting style is going to be a surprise for me! Which is pretty much the exact same thing from most of the other Doctor actors. I’d never heard of Matt Smith before, right?
Anyway, I’m a season behind on Jodie Whittaker, because I agree with everybody else that it’s just not very good. And none of it is Whittaker’s fault. She’s great! But she didn’t get any good episodes or good material. Which is a damn shame! She’s got one special left at the end of the year that will include this regeneration.
