Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/14/23

My friends, this has been a week. I had to take my car in for some repairs and that cost me an arm and a leg. And then the repair shop messed up my automatic seat adjuster, which was already pretty fragile. So I’m not only out a lot of money this week, but now my seat is stuck in a somewhat uncomfortable way! I need to buy a new car, but in this economy? In this market? Ugh. Anyway, this is all to say I didn’t get to too many comics this week out of sheer sadness.

Comic Book of the Week goes to X-Men #18 because it was the better of the two I actually managed to read and review this week. It’s an OK story.

That’s too bad

Meanwhile, I haven’t played with my new Playstation 5 yet, because I want to finish Pokemon Violet before moving on to a new game. So that’s just collecting dust. And I finished Wednesday, which was really good. Basically trying to find anything to lessen the pain of this past week.

Comic Reviews: Monica Rambeau: Photon #2 and X-Men #18.

Carnival Row is Still a Thing!

Hey everybody! Did you know that Carnival Row was still a show that exists on Amazon? Because it’s second season is right around the corner! In fact, here’s a new trailer to prove it! Remember these characters? This world? I sure hope so!

I kid because I love. I really enjoyed the first season of Carnival Row when it came out way back in 2019, in the before times, in the long long ago. Cool world of downtrodden pixies and mythical humanoid creatures, with lots of interesting stories and some solid performances. But the pandemic ruins all things, and we’ve had to wait this long for season 2. I probably should have also posted a recap video of season 1 for everybody…

Carnival Row returns on Feb. 17 to Amazon Prime, and I think I read somewhere that they’re going to do two episodes a week for this second and final season.

My 6 Most Anticipated Movies of 2023

The new year is here and that means we have a whole new year of movies to look forward to! I’m a big movie guy — and even do a movie review podcast for my day job, if that sort of thing interests you. And I’ve definitely got my list of most anticipated movies for the year. There’s a lot coming out, including a new Indiana Jones, a new Mission Impossible and a bunch of new Marvel movies, so which ones am I looking forward to most of all?

They’re all gonna look like this

Look, I’m a simple man with simple tastes. Is this list mostly going to be made up of Marvel movies? Yes. Should you stop reading now? No! Maybe there will be some surprises! Heck, one of the movies on this list I only learned about by researching upcoming movies for this list! How’s that for anticipation? I find out it exists and I get so excited that it immediately goes on the list! This year should be a good year in movies. I know I’ve got my hopes up across the board!

Join me after the jump for my most anticipated movies this year. And feel free to share your own in the comments down below!

The New Ant-Man Trailer Goes Heavy on the Kang

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is only about a month away from arriving in theaters and I’m very excited! Ant-Man is my favorite Avenger and I’ve enjoyed his films. And the next one is gonna be big and bombastic! It’s also gonna introduce a proper Kang the Conqueror as the new big bad.

And the new trailer, debuting last night, really goes heavy on Kang action!

Fun trailer! Not as jovial as the first one, but it definitely shows off the action very well. We’ve got lots of Scott Langs, we’ve got some quality drama attached to his daughter, Cassie, and we’ve got a metric ton of danger associated with Kang the Conqueror! Sounds good to me. And yes, those are our first official looks at MODOK! How nifty!

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania comes to theaters on Feb. 17!

Evil Dead Rise Looks a Bit Too Much For Me

I’m not much of a fan of horror movies, especially gory ones. Just not my cup of tea. But that’s not going to stop me from sharing this red band trailer for Evil Dead Rise, which really lives up to all the insanity one can expect from this franchise. Definitely consider your own sanity when it comes to watching this trailer. Consider yourself warned.

Also, since it is a red band trailer and really gory in its own right, you’re gonna have to click through to YouTube directly if you want to watch!

That was some gnarly stuff! Man. Who even makes these movies? Who enjoys this sort of thing? It’s madness, I tell you! But madness is as madness does, so hopefully some of you out there will enjoy Evil Dead Rise when it comes to theaters on April 21.
