6 Thoughts on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
We have come to the end of an era. After years of waiting, a ton of behind-the-scenes madness, and a bunch of Marvel movie phases, we’ve finally reached the grand finale of the Guardians of the Galaxy series. I’m excited and sad in equal measure. It’s a shame we’ll never seen this team again, written and directed by James Gunn. But I also feel like we’ve had a lot of adventures with them, and it’ll be good to let them rest.
Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great
I had a great time with this film. I have few, if any, real complaints. I have loved the Guardians of the Galaxy movies since the beginning. I loved the comics that inspired the movies, I loved the heck out of those first trailers, and I have all the faith in the world in James Gunn. The man is at the top of his career right now, putting out golden projects left and right. So I’m very pleased that Vol. 3 turned out as good as it is. Everyone involved should be pleased and proud.

The summer movie season is in full swing, so we keep getting new movie trailers piled upon us. And I love watching them and sharing them, because why not? I love movie trailers! I can do this!
First up is the new, full trailer for Oppenheimer. This is gonna be a big, fancy movie, with fancy stars, a fancy director, fancy themes; this movie is gonna be a whole thing.
Looks fine so far. Looks like a serious biopic about Robert J. Oppenheimer. Or is it J. Robert Oppenheimer? I don’t know and don’t feel like Googling it as I write this blog post. The movie looks good and I am for sure gonna do an Oppenheimer/Barbie double feature that weekend.
Oppenheimer comes out on July 21.
Next up, on the complete opposite end of the movie spectrum, is the trailer for Meg 2: The Trench. Oh man, I can’t believe they made this movie. But here it is.
I remember the first Meg. It was a big shark movie, with Jason Statham doing his thing. I think I liked it, in that simple way of liking such a movie. And it looks like the same thing will happen with Meg 2. Honestly, I was almost excited for a dinosaur movie, but then the giant shark had to come along and ruin everything.
Also, how many times do they say the phrase “Meg” in this movie? Have they really been dealing with so many Megalodons that they always use the shorthand? Or is it just extreme brand repetition?
I guess we’ll find out when Meg 2: The Trench comes to theaters on Aug. 4.

Mario Through the Ages, Animated
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a whole thing. It was super popular. I thought it was fine. It could have been more, but it was otherwise fine on its own. One thing is for sure, though: Mario has a lot of iterations and adaptations over the years. And Tell It Animated is on the case!
Good times! I watched a ton of those Mario cartoons back in the day. The Lou Albano stuff? You’re damn right! And this video has it all. I love Tell It Animated. He’s a great channel and he does great work. And now he’s opened himself up to video game characters. My top pick for his next cartoon is still Robin, but if we’re talking video game characters…Sonic the Hedgehog is the next obvious choice. Plenty to work with.
Master Chief. Pac-Man. Metroid. Maybe Final Fantasy protagonists? Tell It Animated shall never die!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/6/23
I’ve got to get through one more week or work before I’m on vacation for a while ‘nother week. I cannot wait! Just gotta pass the time, do what needs to be done and hopefully come out the other side free and clear. Having comics helps, like the first issue of a new Shazam! relaunch and another enjoyable Scarlet Witch comic.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #900 because I’m not made of stone and can enjoy some crossover hijinks as much as the next fan.
Meanwhile, I’ve been playing the DLC to Horizon: Forbidden West and the biggest problems is trying to remember what everything does. There are so many unique weapons and abilities in this game, and I haven’t played it in a year. But the real big news, of course, is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3! I saw it, I loved it and I’ll have a full review and my thoughts in the usual place on Wednesday.
Comic Reviews: Batman #900, Scarlet Witch #5 and Shazam! #1.

I never read the Dune books and have zero memory of that TV mini-series that I know I watched once upon a time. So I really only mildly cared for that big Dune: Part 1 movie a few years ago. It was big, it was pretty, but it was just Part 1 and that was a stinker. Welp, Part 2 is coming later this year! I’ll need to find an internet recap video so that I’m prepared.
Looks pretty good. Looks a lot more personable, with a lot more emotion and actual character development. I’m all for that. The CGI looks great, the characters look like fun, there are some weird black and white sequences that are clearly gonna be a trip. Looks like an overall quality time at the theater, hopefully. And then we can all have future Dune watch parties that are 6 hours long.
Dune: Part 2 comes to theaters on Nov. 3.
