Movie Trailer Thursday

I’m still on vacation, still just sitting on my butt and playing a bunch of Tears of the Kingdom. But a bunch of movie trailers have come out, and I’m going to see Fast X this afternoon. So why not share and see what everybody else thinks?

First up is Haunted Mansion, the second attempt by Disney to turn this famous ride into a movie. I don’t remember anything about the first Haunted Mansion movie, but this new one already looks better, and has a bunch of great actors.

Looks solid. Looks enjoyable. I’ll probably go see it, depending on whatever else comes out that weekend. I doubt it’ll launch a new franchise, though. But they can try.

Haunted Mansion comes out on July 28.

Next up is Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part 1. I’ve never been into the Mission Impossible movies. The ones I’ve seen have been fine action films, sure, but this franchise means nothing to me. Like the Fast & Furious franchise.

Like, how is this trailer any different from every trailer in this franchise ever? How are any of these movies separate or different from all the other movies in the franchise? Why does this one need to be two parts?! I just don’t get it.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part 1 comes to theaters on July 12.

6 Franchises for Which I Want a Big, Open World Video Game

I’m on vacation this week, doing a whole lot of relaxing at home and not working. I timed my vacation with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and you best believe I am enjoying my time in this big, open Hyrule of a world. I love open world video games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Last year we got Sonic Frontiers, this year we had Hogwarts Legacy and will be getting another Spider-Man game, with the big, open Manhattan. More franchises should have games like these.

This reminds me that I gotta get back to playing Zelda

All my favorite games are big open world games. World of Warcraft, the Grand Theft Auto series, the really good Spider-Man games, Red Dead Redemption and its sequel, Witcher 3, the Assassin’s Creed games; the list goes on and on. I love a big, open map with a bunch of stuff to do, both big and small. I love being able to dress up my character in clothing and armor I’ve scoured the map to find. I love having the freedom to do side activities, like hunting in RDR2.

So with all that being sad, and to make this list as easy as possible on my chill vacation, what are some franchise I’d like to see given the big, open world video game treatment. If they can remake the entirety of Hogwarts castle in a video game, they can surely make these dreams of mine come true.

In Which I Rank Every Episode From Star Wars: Visions Season 2

May the Fourth has come and gone, and with it a new season of Star Wars: Visions. I think this is a great little show, and a great idea overall. Sign up a bunch of animation studios from around the world and have them put together their own short Star Wars cartoon. They don’t have to feature any familiar characters and don’t have to be in continuity. Just use Star Wars iconography and tell your own story. It’s a great idea and has resulted in some great cartoons.

I very much enjoyed the first season, when they focused on anime studios. You can check out my rankings on the season 1 episodes here. I also enjoyed the second season a whole lot. They opened up to Western animation studios as well as others around the world, so it wasn’t strictly anime-focused. I can’t wait to see what they do next year!

Join me after the jump for my ranking of all nine episodes of Star Wars: Visions season 2. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the whole season. And feel free to share your own rankings and reviews in the comments below!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/13/23

It’s gonna be a short week for reviews because not much came out that I read and I had a really busy week. Geez louise, my week! But it’s probably because I’m on vacation this coming week, so work had to really dig it out of me. And this upcoming week is gonna feature a bajillion comic reviews! Everything is coming out in the same week! But this week we’ve got Green Lantern and Saga.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Green Lantern #1 for a nice character focused relaunch. It doesn’t have as much oomph as I would have liked, but it’s nonetheless a solid read.

I feel this panel is very apt for a first issue

Meanwhile, I just finished up BEEF on Netflix and it was really good. Definitely recommended. And I’ve already started playing Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Bought that right away. Breath of the Wild was the entire reason I bought the Nintendo Switch a few years ago, and I’m very pleased to be here at launch for the sequel! Gonna be a fun vacation!

Comic Reviews: Green Lantern #1 and Saga #64.

The Muppet Mayhem Show is Live!

This weekend, I will be watching The Muppet Mayhem, a new TV show about the fictional muppet band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. I like the Muppets. Who doesn’t like the Muppets? Obviously they haven’t had the greatest success on TV and movies in the past few years, but perhaps projects like The Muppet Mayhem will turn things around.

They’ve got all these great Muppet characters, why not do specialized shows about certain individuals? It doesn’t always have to be an attempted revival of the classic Muppet Show with modern sensibilities. Do something unique, like The Muppet Mayhem! The trailer looks great, and my friends have been raving about it so far. So I’m very excited to watch this weekend!

The Muppet Mayhem is streaming on Disney+.
