The X-Men Animated Series Was My Everything

This cartoon was my everything growing up in the 90s! Not only did it introduce me to a lot of newer X-Men, but I’m pretty sure this helped push along my interest in comics. I watched a ton of cartoons in the 80s, when I was really young, but the 90s and the X-Men Animated Series were my formative years.

I wonder if the episodes hold up at all. I’ve seen a few over the years, but I have to imagine it was a product of its time. Kudos to Screen Junkies for nailing all the best parts!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/21/16

This was a good week for comics. My pile was lighter than I anticipated, and I thought things would be pretty calm. But then several issues really stood out to me as winners. We’ve got Silver Surfer, Harley Quinn, Astonishing Ant-Man, Power Man and Iron Fist; this is a damn fine week for the funny books. And almost any of these could have won Comic Book of the Week. I was really tempted to give Harley Quinn major props this week.

But Comic Book of the Week goes to All-New Wolverine #8! Writer Tom Taylor is really pushing Laura as a new hero in her own right, while doubling down on comic book awesomeness. I really love seeing where he takes the legacy of Wolverine, and how he uses it to empower Laura.

It’s a complicated legacy

Although Harley Quinn has something Wolverine doesn’t: romance! At least I think so…

Comic Reviews: All-New Wolverine #8, Astonishing Ant-Man #8, Harley Quinn #28, Power Man and Iron Fist #4, Silver Surfer #4 and Spider-Man #4.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/30/16

Wowzers, what a week! Let me share with you just how insane this week was for me. First of all, it was the final week of my Kickstarter for Gamer Girl & Vixen, and we hit our fundraising goal on Wednesday! Hooray! Second of all, this was also the week I was moving into a new apartment, and that took several days. So there’s some exhaustion. And then this just happened to be the most insane week for comics in a long time!

Not only did a new issue of Teen Titans come out, which I always give a big review. But this week saw new issues of Batman, Batgirl, Amazing Spider-Man, All-New Wolverine, Saga, Doctor Strange, Ms. Marvel, Patsy Walker, Grayson, We Are Robin, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Harley Quinn, Faith, and so many more! This would have been a wonderful week of reading, if I wasn’t so exhausted from moving and finishing up a Kickstarter.

Fortunately, I did get to a couple of quality comics this week, so at least there’s that. This includes Comic Book of the Week for Ms. Marvel #6, for it’s lovely story of growing up superhero.

Classic Kamala!

Also, as a double reminder, my Kickstarter has blown past its fundraising goal this week! So the Gamer Girl & Vixen graphic novel is definitely getting made! If you want to snag a copy, head over to the Kickstarter! The campaign ends Monday morning.

Comic Reviews: All-New Wolverine #7, Amazing Spider-Man #11, Batman #51, Doctor Strange #7, Ms. Marvel #6 and Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #5.

The X-Men: Apocalypse Trailers Just Get Bigger and Bigger

There’s a new X-Men: Apocalypse trailer today, and while we don’t get any sign of Multiple Man, a few more familiar mutants show up.

I’m definitely going to see this movie, and I’ll probably enjoy it. But I don’t think I have any excitement left for the X-Men franchise. Their movies just keep coming and coming, a never-ending barrage of general OKness. It lacks the excitement that comes from Captain America: Civil War. Just sayin’.

Looks Like the Blob is in X-Men: Apocalypse! Neat!

If you didn’t know already, the Blob is one of my favorite comic book characters. He’s definitely my favorite X-villain. There’s just something really down-to-Earth about the Blob that I like. He’s not some maniacal supervillain trying to take over the world. He’s a blue collar bad guy, a regular mutant who could have, just as easily, been a member of the X-Men. He’s as much a mutant as the rest of them. But he’s also an asshole, and he took another path. So he’s a favorite of mine, and it looks like he’ll show up in X-Men: Apocalypse! Director Bryan Singer posted this online this weekend.

So Angel defeated Blob with his wings?

That’s definitely the Blob. Note the yellow stripes on his outfit and boots. That’s his signature comics look.

So awesome! As you may or may not know, Blob appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But he could be rebooted thanks to Days of Future Past. We don’t yet really know how all of that works. But it also, hopefully, leaves the door open to a new version of Multiple Man in movie continuity! Please!
