Where There’s Mortal Kombat 1, There’s Smoke!
As I’ve surely mentioned many times on this blog, Smoke is my favorite character in Mortal Kombat, and one of my all-time favorite video game characters in general. The dude is just plain cool, and I have fond memories of reaching his stage in MK2 with my brother and cousin. It was an epic night of Toasties, I assure you.
Well, good news, everybody! Smoke will be a playable character in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 game! We found this out in a new trailer showing off both Smoke and Rain!
Smoke looks cool, he plays cool, he gets to be the third wheel in the Sub-Zero/Scorpion team-up this game is going to have. As we all know, the plot of the new game is that the world has been remade by God King Liu Kang. Part of this new world has Sub-Zero and Scorpion as brothers in the Lin Kuei. That’s interesting.
Smoke’s bio got posted to the Mortal Kombat Discord.
A new and different origin, but nonetheless amazing! He’s not evil, he’s not some twisted robot. He’s a cool dude, with a cool backstory, and hopefully a fun part to play in the new game. Will he likely be killed and turned into a robot anyway? Yeah, possibly. It’s happened before, it could happen again. I’m just thrilled that my favorite Mortal Kombat character gets to come back and be awesome, at least for a little while.

Fun New Mario Games Coming
For the first time in my life, I own a Nintendo console. So when they announce new Nintendo games, I can get excited! And the pair of new Mario games they announced yesterday have me excited. I like Mario games as much as the next person.
First up is Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which is a new 2D Mario game with all sorts of new mechanics.
Looks neat! Who doesn’t love a classic Mario game? And new elements? Sure! Elephant power-up? Yeah, why not. Looks all manner of fun. And it comes out in October.
Next up is a remake of Super Mario RPG, a classic game that I never played.
Everybody is always raving about Super Mario RPG being one of the greatest of all time. I never owned a Super Nintendo. I’ve never played this game. I have some memories of magazine ads about the game, some characters I’ve seen. Welp, now I’ll get to play it for real! Lucky me.
Super Mario RPG comes out in November.

Our First Look at Star Wars: Outlaws Looks Pretty Good
A big, open world Star Wars game has been rumored for some time now. I even did a List of Six about what I’d like to see in such a game when it was first announced two years ago. Based on the new trailer and game announcement, looks like I’m getting about half of what I hoped for. Star Wars: Outlaws will be a non-Jedi game where you play as a plucky, young scoundrel getting up to crimes and mischief sometime during the original trilogy timeframe.
Here’s the cinematic announcement trailer.
Looks fine. Looks full of Star Wars stuff. The protagonist looks neat. I’m disappointed that she’s just another human. And a white person at that. But I can live with it. At least she’s a woman. This is Star Wars. Why can’t we have really diverse alien protagonists for some of these games? Does that not test well? Would nobody buy the game if the protagonist was a lady Twi’lek?
Anyway, here’s the gameplay trailer.
Again, looks fine. That’s all the open world gameplay stuff that I really enjoy. I like how she can transition between locations, including planets, maybe. I like how she can use her little pet to accomplish stuff in game, like effect the environment and grab new weapons.
But it also all looks kind of samey. Nothing really stands out as new or exciting for an open world game. So perhaps it will just be a generally enjoyable Star Wars game. Nothing wrong with that. I like those.
Star Wars: Outlaws, produced by Ubisoft, comes out sometime next year.

Tuesday Trailerpalooza
Last week, a metric ton of new trailers come out for everything from indie movies to big action movies to TV shows to video games. How am I supposed to keep up with them all? By dumping them on all in a single post on a Tuesday. Go me!
First up is the new movie Bottoms, which looks pretty fun as a silly, potentially raunchy high school teen comedy.
I might for sure give this one a watch if it comes to a theater near me. Could be funny. Could be really bad. There’s only one way to find out. Bottoms comes to theaters on Aug. 25.
Next up, let’s check out the trailer for the second season of Good Omens!
I really enjoyed the book, I really enjoyed the first season, and I’ll be happy to watch a second season. I’m sure they’ll have a ton of fun with this one! I think it’s an entirely new story, since the book didn’t have a sequel. As long as it’s got Neil Gaiman’s seal of approval, I’ll be content.
Good Omens season two comes to Amazon Prime on July 28.
Thirdly, it’s the full trailer for the long-awaited Venture Bros. wrap-up movie, which has the silly title of Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart.
I love the Venture Bros. as much as the next person. I even cosplayed as Henchman 21 at a couple of comic cons. Those pictures exist on the internet. Anyway, as much as I loved the show, I was somebody who got annoyed at how rarely new seasons came out. They were good seasons when they did…but they also rarely accomplished anything, paid off anything or were very memorable for the next five years of new content.
It was a shame when the show got cancelled, but…eh. I’ll gladly watch this movie. Hopefully they do pay off everything they put into this series. Or maybe there will just be more movies.
The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart will come to digital and DVD at the end of July.
Lastly, for now, we got a full game trailer for Moral Kombat 1.
I’ve played pretty much every Mortal Kombat game of the modern era. I’ll probably play this one at some point. Looks fine. No sign of Smoke, though, so perhaps I’ll have to wait for Mortal Kombat 2. I’m sure this one will be as fun as all the others.
Mortal Kombat 1 comes out on Sept. 19.

6 Characters I Want to See in the Spider-Man 2 Video Game
This is a great time to be a Spider-Man fan. Not only does the new film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse come out this week, but last week we got our first big look at the upcoming Spider-Man 2 video game for the Playstation 5. I’m going to the first showing of the movie this week, and you best believe I’ll be picking up that game day one! Everything’s coming up Spider-Man!
Next week, I’ll do a review of Across the Spider-Verse here in this List of Six space. So this week, I’ve decided to whip together a quick list for the Spider-Man 2 video game. Who do I want to see appear in the game? What cameos and character appearances? We already know that Kraven the Hunter and Venom will be the major villains, but what about minor villains? What about some superhero allies? Or some civilian friends?
Join me after the jump for a couple characters I hope to see in this surely awesome video game.
