So, uh, The Venture Bros. Has Been Cancelled
2020 continues to extract a heavy toll on all of us. The Venture Bros., one of the greatest television shows of all time, has been quietly cancelled. Apparently it happened months ago while creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer were working on season 8.
This is pretty shocking. The reason for the cancellation hasn’t been revealed yet, but the fact that the show took several years between seasons probably played a part. We’ve only gotten seven seasons over the course of 17 years! I have often complained that it takes too long between seasons, and it would make sense for that to bite the creators in the butt in the end.
Cartoon Network has also posted on Twitter that they hope to continue the story somewhere else. Season 7 was not the planned ending, and considering how The Venture Bros. was all about building up and pushing off stories, it sucks to lose all of that ongoing material.
The Venture Bros. was a defining show for me back during its heyday. I even cosplayed as Henchman 21 at a couple comic book conventions! So it’s sad to see it go…but we all probably should have seen this coming at some point.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is, Honestly, the Best Cartoon of All Time
So, Avatar: The Last Airbender came to Netflix a couple weeks ago and everybody is either discovering or re-discovering it’s awesomeness. I don’t have time to watch the whole series again — though I should probably make time — so I’m just going to settle for the new Honest Trailer.
Man, that really was a great show. I should make time to watch it again.

More Aggretsuko!
The global pandemic’s stranglehold on the entertainment industry is not so terrifying because we’ve still got TV and streaming! In fact, Netflix will be releasing the third season of the awesome Aggretsuko cartoon at the end of the month, on Aug. 27! So at least we’ve got that to look forward to.
I very much enjoy this cartoon and highly recommend it. Aggretsuko takes the cheerful, kid-friendly vibe of Hello Kitty and transforms it into a workplace comedy with a touch of anarchistic glee.
It’s about a young woman named Retsuko who struggles to make it in life as a single 20-something woman with a crummy office job. Her one respite from reality is her love of hardcore death metal karaoke!

And So the Wait Continues for The Boys Season 2
I’m currently in the middle of watching the second season of The Umbrella Academy and it’s great! Very much enjoying this show. So how about the other really cool, stylish, live action streaming show based on a comic book? The Boys returns to Amazon Prime on Sept. 4!
Looks great! Obviously, The Boys has gone way off the rails from the comic, and I am perfectly fine with that. The Boys TV show is telling it’s own story. I’m not so beholden to the source material that I’m going to be bitter. The show is a fun use of the characters and concept.

How About Some of Them There Comic-Con Trailers!
This past weekend was Comic-Con @ Home, and I guess it went fine. Obviously it wasn’t full of the normally epic reveals and trailers we get when the world isn’t on fire, but there was plenty of good stuff revealed. And since I was lazy and didn’t post it already, I’m just going to lump a bunch of cool trailers together!
First up is Bill & Ted: Face the Music. I’ve been wary about this film…but this trailer is so much fun it won me over!
That was some solid Bill & Ted energy! The movie is coming Video-on-Demand on Sept. 4, so that’s pretty cool. Most movies are being pushed back to a theatrical release next year, but it’ll be nice to have some movies at all this year.
Next up is Truth Seekers, a ghost-hunting parody show starring Nick Frost that’s coming to Amazon.
Seems pretty fun. This was heralded as the return of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg working together, but Pegg is barely in the trailer. Still, I’ll check this out for Frost and the concept alone.
Lastly is a trailer for the third season of Infinity Train. Don’t watch this if you wan’t already seen seasons 1 and 2! Infinity Train is a special little show, and it’s coming to HBO Max, where hopefully more people can see it!
Looks damn cool! Season 3 comes out on Aug. 13.
