More Star Trek: Lower Decks is Coming!

I have never been a Star Trek guy…until last year, when the cartoon Lower Decks debuted and I was instantly in love! This is the Star Trek for me. Funny, well-written, awesome in all the right ways and full of smart, well-used references. I would literally watch an episode and then go online to learn what all the references were, I was that in love with the show.

And it’s coming back for a second season!

I cannot wait. This show is damn good, and I hope it gets a bajillion seasons. And then I hope it gets some live action crossovers somehow with other Trek media. Paramount is putting out a ton of Star Trek content these days, and Lower Decks is the only one that’s any good. In my opinion.

Season two of Star Trek: Lower Decks arrives on Aug. 12!

Leslie Grace Cast as Batgirl for Hopeful Movie

Looks like DC and Warner Bros are indeed going ahead with a Batgirl movie for HBO Max. That sounds good to me! They’re so serious about this project that they have actually cast Barbara Gordon. She will be played by Leslie Grace, who recently starred in In the Heights.

I remain a major Batgirl of Burnside fan

This also sounds good to me! Grace was really good in In the Heights and I’m sure she’ll be a fine Batgirl. Whether or not the project actually gets made is the other issue. DC have announced and abandoned so many movies that I’ve lost count. Heck, apparently that Nightwing movie is still happening? Who knows.

But Batgirl apparently has a screenwriter, a pair of directors and now a lead actor. So that’s all very hopeful, as far as I’m concerned!

How About a Big Peek at What If…?

The Loki TV show is almost over, so Marvel has the next one lined up and ready to go! It’s What If…?, the cartoon! And a new, fuller trailer arrived to the world yesterday looking all manner of interesting.

This one looks really neat! I really enjoyed the concept of What If…? when I was younger. It’s a great idea for a comic. And it looks to be a fun idea for a cartoon to run alongside the MCU. This is a fun look at what some of the episodes will be. Better websites than mine have picked apart every single frame of this trailer, because that’s what they do, so if you’re interested in that sort of thing you can find it.

Me? I’m just jazzed at all the fun sights! We’ll find out what the show itself is like when What If…? arrives on Disney+ on Aug. 11.

So, Masters of the Universe: Revelation Looks Great!

I missed posting the first trailer when it came out a couple weeks ago, but thankfully we’ve got a new trailer for Masters of the Universe: Revelation so I now have an excuse to post them both! Behold the epic fantasy of the latest He-Man cartoon relaunch!

It looks great! It looks action-packed and dripping in lore and mythology. It looks like people took some real time and effort to plot out and plan how to bring back He-Man with some oomph. That sounds good to me.

I was a big He-Man fan when I was a kid. It was definitely part of my 80s childhood rotation of Ninja Turtles/G.I. Joe/Transformers and more. So I’m all in favor of this cartoon. I’m still a little disappointed that He-Man never had a guest appearance on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, but time will heal that wound.

If Masters of the Universe: Revelation has even a fraction of the storytelling prowess of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power then we are in for a good time!

He-Man returns, on Netflix, on July 23.

6 Other Super-Power Mimics (Not From Comics)

I love a good power mimic. One of my all-time favorite comic book characters is the Mimic from the X-Men. His original comic appearances from the 1960s X-Men were some of the first comics I read growing up, just some old, beat-up issues from my dad’s collection. I’ve loved the Mimic ever since!

That’s him, that’s the guy

I also love his super-power, the ability to mimic and/or copy the super-powers of others. And wouldn’t you know it? That power shows up in a lot of other places, causing me to instantly like these other characters simply because they match my boy Mimic. Maybe it’s not the best way to pick a favorite character in a super-powered TV show or cartoon, but it works for me! And this week, I feel like celebrating all of these other power-mimics. I thought of including other power mimics in comics, but there are a bunch, same with video games. So I looked far and wide to see where the power was used on television. Super-power shows are much rarer.

Join me after the jump for for a handful of nifty neat power mimics from some pretty interesting shows! Warning, there are SPOILERS for the show Umbrella Academy, in case you’re not caught up.
