6 Things I Want To See in the Second Season of X-Men ’97

The first season of X-Men ’97 was a masterpiece. It was perfect from beginning to end. And one of the best parts of the series was how it took multiple storylines from the comics and condensed and reworked them to fit the show’s own, largely original storyline. It was brilliantly done. I gave the show a perfect 10/10 score in my review last week. Loved it!

So what about season 2?

They look so innocent

X-Men ’97 has already been confirmed for a second and third season. In fact, season 2 is already in production. Showrunner Beau DeMayo has been fired by Marvel for reasons that have not yet been revealed, but he wrote a lot of the scripts for season 2, so there should be some quality assured. But aside from Apocalypse being a main focus, season 2 could feature pretty much anything and anyone. Season 1 was also filled to the brim with cameos and Easter Egg character appearances. Anyone could appear from anywhere in the franchise.

I did a List of Six years ago about characters and concepts I hoped to see in X-Men ’97. Nothing on that list came to pass. Now that we know what we can expect from this show, I’ve put together a new list specifically for what I’d like to see in season 2! And expect FULL SPOILERS for season 1 in this list as I discuss what I’d like to see happen next!

6 Thoughts on the First Season of X-Men ’97

I mean, jeez louis, people. What an intense and amazing two months this has been. My expectations were very tempered when this show was first announced, and then we go those first few trailers. But from episode one, I have been hooked and completely on board with this insane idea that worked far, far better than it had any right to work.

TV Show Rating: 10/10 – Fantastic

I was a huge fan of the original X-Men Animated Series when it came out in the 1990s. I was the perfect age for it and was already solidly versed with the comics — though not the comics that were current at the time. The show introduced me to characters like Gambit, Rogue and Jubilee, and then so much more beyond them. The original show was everything. And now this new continuation is everything again. It’s so damn good. They did everything right and then some. X-Men ’97 is so good, I wonder if it will affect the MCU plans for the X-Men going forward…

Anyway, the finale aired yesterday and I’m ready to talk about the show! Expect FULL SPOILERS for the whole show. Seriously! DO NOT READ THIS LIST if you haven’t watched X-Men ’97! But if you have, join me after the jump for my thoughts! And please feel free to share your thoughts and review in the comments below!

Some Good TV Shows Are Coming Back!

The finale of X-Men ’97 dropped today, but I can’t watch it until my viewing buddy gets online later tonight. So expect my season review List of Six tomorrow! Today, I’ll busy myself with some trailers for some TV shows I like.

For example, turns out they’re making a second season of The Rings of Power! Not everybody enjoyed that show, but I definitely did, and I’m looking forward to a second season!

I enjoyed the first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, despite the clunky name. It had plenty of great LoTR elements, and I really enjoyed the mysterious figure and the proto-hobbits. This trailer leans far far more into the death, evil and destruction side of things, which is fine. But hopefully the whimsy isn’t gone forever.

The Rings of Power returns to Amazon Prime on Aug. 29.

Also, did you see that LEGO has announced an Eye of Sauron/Barad-dur set? Holy crap!

Moving on, there’s going to be a fourth season of Only Murders in the Building!

I enjoy this show as well! Though a lot of people do, so it’s definitely not Rings of Power. The three leads have great chemistry and are super fun together. And I enjoy the mystery element as well. I actually guessed the killer right in one of the seasons! Then guessed wrong in the other two seasons. Oh well. This looks like a lot of fun and can’t wait to return to the show!

Only Murders in the Building season 4 returns to Hulu on Aug. 27.

Exploding Kittens Cartoon Incoming

I’ve been a longtime fan of The Oatmeal comics. The dude is funny and he makes great products. So I will probably check out his upcoming Netflix cartoon, Exploding Kittens. It could be fun!

I’m pretty sure I’ve played the Exploding Kittens card game he invented and produced, and I’m not sure if it resembles this cartoon at all. But the humor seems alright and I’m always open for new cartoons. I just finished Hazbin Hotel, which lives up to all the hype its generating. And this reminds me that I need to maybe watch Nathan Pyle’s Strange Planet cartoon. There are too many shows to watch! I can’t keep track!

Anyway, Exploding Kittens comes to Netflix in July.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Looks Nifty Keen

On May the Fourth, we got a new trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte, the upcoming Jedi show set during the High Republic Era. As foolish as it may be, I’m still optimistic for new Star Wars content. Sometimes it’s amazing, like Andor, and sometimes it’s trash, like Tales of the Empire from this past weekend. But I am not a discerning fan. I’ll watch whatever.

I think it looks alright. We have a lot of content with Jedi, but we don’t have a lot of content with a whole order of Jedi. What’s that going to be like? I think it should be fun to look at a world where Jedi are at the height of their power. And this one is something of a murder mystery as well, even though the trailer pretty much gives away the killer’s identity right away, so…no mystery?

Still, we’ll find out exactly what Acolyte is like when it comes to Disney+ on June 4, which will be here sooner than we realize.
