Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/26/25

It’s the week of weeks! Not only did Fantastic Four: First Steps just come out, but we’re also smack dab in the middle of San Diego Comic Con! So much news coming out. So many trailers. And we had a nice week of comics as well, like Absolute Wonder Woman and Superman.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Void Rivals #21 for an excellent, action-packed issue that uses all of its characters very well.

Springer is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine

Meanwhile, I loved the new Fantastic Four movie and hope to have my review up on time next week. Greatness all around! And then I continue to plug again at Death Stranding 2. I’m taking my darn time and stretching out the game as far as I can, because there’s nothing else on the horizon. I also started watching Smiling Friends, which was nice, and the new episode of South Park was perfection. So good week all around for pop culture.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Martin Manhunter #5, Absolute Wonder Woman #10, Superman #28 and Void Rivals #21.

6 Thoughts on Superman (Review)

This review is about two weeks late and I apologize for that. Such is life, eh? Anyway, I saw Superman opening weekend in the theater and had a blast. I was very much looking forward to this movie and had nothing but faith in James Gunn to deliver, and he did so in spades. Great film!

Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great

I was mostly lukewarm on all the DCEU movies. I didn’t care for Man of Steel and, even though I think I’ve only seen it that one time in theaters, I just don’t care for it. I probably enjoyed Joss Whedon’s Justice League more than Zack Snyder’s Justice League. I enjoyed both Aquaman movies. But I am more than ready for James Gunn to deliver a new, better DC Cinematic Universe. Let’s hope they’re all as good as Superman.

Join me after the jump for my full review and thoughts on Superman. Expect SOME SPOILERS for the movie. And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/19/25

As expected, this busy week has come to an end and we can all relax and enjoy some comics. Except that I didn’t enjoy a lot of this week’s comics! For possibly the first time in a long time, there are some real stinkers in my review column!

But not Comic Book of the Week Absolute Batman #10, for some truly excellent, Batman-themed horror.

Presented without context

Meanwhile, I continue to slowly make my way through Death Stranding 2. I’m very much enjoying the game. Or maybe I just enjoy giving myself virtual busy work? Who’s to say. Other than that, I’m excited for Fantastic Four: First Steps this week, and do hope to get my Superman review up sooner rather than later.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #10, Absolute Flash #5, Exceptional X-Men #11, Imperial #2 and Wonder Woman #23.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/5/25

Happy Fifth of July! I was probably just going to enjoy my day off from work and laze about this weekend, but then we got a new Captain America #1, and I felt that would be a good read and review for this great American holiday.

Comic Book of the Week obviously goes to Captain America #1 for a story that really has me excited!

Cap loves his motorcycle

Meanwhile, I am spending most of my 3-day weekend just playing Death Stranding 2 because it’s exactly the game I hoped it would be! I am spending so much time just making deliveries, gathering materials and building roads and monorail tracks. Such fun! And I’ve finally gotten into Taskmaster, with the series 19 finale absolute perfection!

Comic Reviews: Captain America #1.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 6/28/25

Sometimes a week will come along where all the comics I read are in the middle of stories and just put out issues where the story is moved along. Nothing wrong with that. Especially when the ongoing stories are as good as they are in the likes of Absolute Wonder Woman and/or Void Rivals.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Martin Manhunter #4 because, while it continues to tell an entertaining story, the artwork this issue goes even harder than it’s been going so far!

Animated movie when?

Meanwhile, I watched and enjoyed the first three episodes of Ironheart. Off to a good start. I’ve also really gotten into Taskmaster lately. It’s all free on YouTube, which is convenient. And last night I finally started playing Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Great game so far!

Also, all three new Gamer Girl & Vixen mini-comics have been added to Global Comix for you to read and enjoy for free! Just click the link and scroll down for the three new comics, with scripts written by me! It’s only fair I put my own comic work out there if I’m gonna review others!

Comic Reviews: Absolute Martian Manhunter #4, Absolute Wonder Woman #9, Ultimate Spider-Man #18, Void Rivals #20 and VR Troopers #1.
