The Marvels Looks Pretty Neat in its First Trailer

Our first look at The Marvels is here! The first trailer/teaser debuted today and it looks to be something of a hoot. Mostly I’m here for Kamala Khan to start interacting with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I’m also here for all of it.

As a teaser, this is a nice look at what we’re going to get in this movie. The premise that the three main characters are switching places when they use their powers is an interesting choice. I don’t know if it works for me quite yet. But if it means putting Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel into weird situations, I’m all for it.

This first trailer looks good and I’m as excited for this movie as I am for any Marvel movie these days — which is very excited. I’m also very excited for Ms. Marvel season 2. Get on that, Marvel!

The Marvels comes to theaters in November.

Movie Trailer Monday, Redux

It’s Monday. I’m off from work. So how about I share some pretty neat movie trailers? Look, I love trailers. I love the editing, the teases, the jokes, the stingers at the end. I really enjoy a good trailer. And it’s easy, enjoyable content to fill a Monday. I’m off from work today and a nice, lazy post is right up my alley.

First up is the big one, a new, full trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

I’m not a big Indiana Jones nerd. I watched those movies when I was a kid, sure, but I don’t have the nostalgia for them that a lot of people do. And I find it a little silly that they keep dragging Old Man Harrison Ford back into service for these sequels. And just thinking about this movie makes me sad that Ke Huy Quan won’t be in this one. But Fleabag is in it, so maybe she’ll do all the heavy lifting.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny comes to theaters on June 30.

Next up is the final trailer for Renfield, this comes out this weekend.

This one could be fun. I think it’s going to be like the recent Dungeons & Dragons movie. It’s gonna be a pleasant watch, with enough jokes and heart to make it enjoyable. I like Awkwafina. I like Nicholas Hoult. But this might also just be a typical movie where our heroes team up and go fight random vampires, until a Dracula boss fight. I’ll find out this weekend!

The Barbie Movie is Gonna Be Bonkers

The Barbie movie is coming out soon and it promises to be crazy. We still don’t really know what the movie is going to be about or what it’s going to be like. But this first full trailer does offer plenty of glimpses, as did a whole bunch of hilarious character posters.

Is it going to be satire? Is it going to be existential? Is it going to be The LEGO Movie over again? Who knows! But it’s a stacked cast. It’s got Greta Gerwig in the director’s chair. And I can only hope it’s going to live up to all its bonkers hype. It definitely looks carefully and perfectly orchestrated as is.

The Barbie movie comes to theaters on July 21.

Two Great Bug-Themed Superhero Movie Trailers!

There have been a whole bunch of new trailers released over the past few days, possibly to get out in front of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. That’s great news for me, because I love trailers! And here come two great ones!

First up is the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. We get a bigger look at the worlds, we get our first look at the Spot, and we get some good looking conflict.

Looks great to me! There seems to be a lot going on, perhaps too much, based on this trailer. But I’m confident they’ll put it all together. Looks like Miles wants to save his father at the cost of saving the multiverse, and Miguel doesn’t want that to happen. Makes sense. But the animation looks beautiful. The Spot looks fun. The kajillion Spider characters are a hoot. We get our first look at Scarlet Spider!

This movie doesn’t need trailers. It’s going to be fire no matter what. Can’t wait! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to theaters on June 2.

Next up is the first trailer for Blue Beetle, our first look at this movie, and I think it looks good. We get a lot of flavor and character in this Blue Beetle trailer, and I like what I see.

I’ll admit, this trailer does seem to hit all the familiar beats of a superhero origin story. But the charm outweighs the tropes for me. Xolo Maridueña looks like he’s having fun as Jaime Reyes, and I love the family feel. George Lopez looks especially fun. And I think the Blue Beetle effects look really good. Blue Beetle looks like a fun movie. Can it overcome the DC curse that killed Black Adam and Shazam 2? We’ll find out. I think it looks good.

Blue Beetle comes to theaters on Aug. 18.

Asteroid City: A New Wes Anderson Movie is On The Way!

I love Wes Anderson movies. Maybe some people are sick of his style of filmmaking, but not me! Keep these cute, quirky, funny movies coming. And Asteroid City — or at least the trailer for Asteroid City — is the most Wes Anderson thing ever.

Looks wonderful! Looks quirky! Great cast, funny deadpan humor, and now some sci fi. Sounds perfect to me. I love the dialogue, I love the premise, I love the sense of humor; I’m going to just keep loving these Wes Anderson films. The only problem is that they rarely play in my town. I have to hope the local indie theater gets the film, because the main theater doesn’t get his movies until months later. Then I have to make a field trip to the city an hour away to see these films. That’s never fun.

Asteroid City comes to theaters on June 16.
