6 Things I Want to See in a New Rey Skywalker Movie
A week or so ago, the good people at Star Wars Celebration announced a slew of new film and TV projects, including the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker. Many of us had written off the sequel movies and their era as dead in the water. They were not well liked by the fans, and we’ve only really heard some bad stories coming out of production. So this was a surprise, to be a sure, but a welcome one.
I am not one of those bitter fans who hate all things Star Wars these days. I love all things Star Wars. I’m enjoying the third season of The Mandalorian and see nothing wrong with it. I don’t have very high opinions of the sequel films, but I liked the characters, and I’ll watch any future Star Wars movie that comes to theaters. And I’d be perfectly happy to see another movie set beyond those films, to keep the story going. Rey is the perfect character to follow. I don’t have any problems with the character whatsoever — even though I wish she’d remained a nobody, and not Palpatine’s granddaughter. That was dumb.
Join me after the jump for six things I want to see in a new Rey movie set after the sequel trilogy. And feel free to share some of your own ideas in the comments below!
Read the rest of this entryThe Marvels Looks Pretty Neat in its First Trailer
Our first look at The Marvels is here! The first trailer/teaser debuted today and it looks to be something of a hoot. Mostly I’m here for Kamala Khan to start interacting with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I’m also here for all of it.
As a teaser, this is a nice look at what we’re going to get in this movie. The premise that the three main characters are switching places when they use their powers is an interesting choice. I don’t know if it works for me quite yet. But if it means putting Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel into weird situations, I’m all for it.
This first trailer looks good and I’m as excited for this movie as I am for any Marvel movie these days — which is very excited. I’m also very excited for Ms. Marvel season 2. Get on that, Marvel!
The Marvels comes to theaters in November.

Movie Trailer Monday, Redux
It’s Monday. I’m off from work. So how about I share some pretty neat movie trailers? Look, I love trailers. I love the editing, the teases, the jokes, the stingers at the end. I really enjoy a good trailer. And it’s easy, enjoyable content to fill a Monday. I’m off from work today and a nice, lazy post is right up my alley.
First up is the big one, a new, full trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
I’m not a big Indiana Jones nerd. I watched those movies when I was a kid, sure, but I don’t have the nostalgia for them that a lot of people do. And I find it a little silly that they keep dragging Old Man Harrison Ford back into service for these sequels. And just thinking about this movie makes me sad that Ke Huy Quan won’t be in this one. But Fleabag is in it, so maybe she’ll do all the heavy lifting.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny comes to theaters on June 30.
Next up is the final trailer for Renfield, this comes out this weekend.
This one could be fun. I think it’s going to be like the recent Dungeons & Dragons movie. It’s gonna be a pleasant watch, with enough jokes and heart to make it enjoyable. I like Awkwafina. I like Nicholas Hoult. But this might also just be a typical movie where our heroes team up and go fight random vampires, until a Dracula boss fight. I’ll find out this weekend!

Two Great Bug-Themed Superhero Movie Trailers!
There have been a whole bunch of new trailers released over the past few days, possibly to get out in front of the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie. That’s great news for me, because I love trailers! And here come two great ones!
First up is the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. We get a bigger look at the worlds, we get our first look at the Spot, and we get some good looking conflict.
Looks great to me! There seems to be a lot going on, perhaps too much, based on this trailer. But I’m confident they’ll put it all together. Looks like Miles wants to save his father at the cost of saving the multiverse, and Miguel doesn’t want that to happen. Makes sense. But the animation looks beautiful. The Spot looks fun. The kajillion Spider characters are a hoot. We get our first look at Scarlet Spider!
This movie doesn’t need trailers. It’s going to be fire no matter what. Can’t wait! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to theaters on June 2.
Next up is the first trailer for Blue Beetle, our first look at this movie, and I think it looks good. We get a lot of flavor and character in this Blue Beetle trailer, and I like what I see.
I’ll admit, this trailer does seem to hit all the familiar beats of a superhero origin story. But the charm outweighs the tropes for me. Xolo Maridueña looks like he’s having fun as Jaime Reyes, and I love the family feel. George Lopez looks especially fun. And I think the Blue Beetle effects look really good. Blue Beetle looks like a fun movie. Can it overcome the DC curse that killed Black Adam and Shazam 2? We’ll find out. I think it looks good.
Blue Beetle comes to theaters on Aug. 18.
