FOX is Never, Ever Letting Go of the X-Men Franchise; Ever
Announced by Deadline out of the blue this afternoon, FOX has hired director Josh Boone to make a New Mutants moving, likely spinning out of the ongoing X-Men franchise. Boone rose to prominence as director of the hugely popular The Fault in Our Stars movie, so he knows a thing or two about teenage drama.
New Mutants was a comic that first launched in the early 1980s as a spin-off of the X-Men. It was about a new class of young mutants at Charles Xavier’s mutant school, and introduced characters like Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Boom Boom, Cypher and a few others, many of whom have not been in the X-Men films yet.
There’s no word yet on characters or plot. So maybe some of those comic book accurate characters will debut, or considering the next film, X-Men: Apocalypse, is set in the 1980s, perhaps this new film will spin off of the teenage mutants introduced in that movie. We’re going to meet teenage versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey and Jubilee, among likely others. So if I had to guess, I bet FOX is going to take those actors (including Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner) and give them their own movie. I highly doubt FOX is going to be too comic book accurate to the original New Mutants title when they can just sign Sophie Turner and her comrades up for another film.
Suffice to say, between this movie, Apocalypse, Deadpool and that supposed X-Force movie, FOX is never, ever letting go of the X-Men franchise. I’m largely OK with that.

A Hench-Sized Ranking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
With the whole world enjoying Avengers: Age of Ultron, I saw a lot of lists on the Internet ranking the best and worst of the Marvel movies. I will gladly go on record claiming that there isn’t a bad movie in the bunch. They’ve all been good to great so far, and I fully expect that trend to continue later this summer with Ant-Man.
Being a blogger of the people, and a self-proclaimed Marvel fan, I’ve decided to rank all of the Marvel movies from my most to least favorite. I love them all and, were I a healthier man, I would gladly have attended one of those massive, multi-hour marathons that were playing in major cities. But alas, I live in a dinky little city that doesn’t get that kind of awesome attention. I need to move somewhere cool…
Also, this seems like a great time to share the first official synopsis of Captain America: Civil War. It seems Cap’s new team of Avengers are going to fill the New Warriors’ role from the original comic, and the movie will feature a metric ton of characters, including War Machine, Vision, Ant-Man and General Ross from The Incredible Hulk! They’re really getting William Hurt to return! That’s amazing connectivity!
So join me after the jump for my personal ranking of all the Marvel movies! And feel free to share your own in the comments below!
A Sweet, Sweet New Ant-Man Poster
With Avengers: Age of Ultron sitting all bubbly in our brainpans now, we turn our attention to the next Marvel blockbuster, Ant-Man, which is due to hit theaters on July 17. I’ve loved both trailers and I’m confident that this movie is going to rock! In fact, to confirm my suspicions, Marvel put out a new Ant-Man poster yesterday!
Let’s hope this signifies the start of around the clock Ant-Man advertising! I still want my Ant-Man LEGOs and Ant-Man Marvel Legends action figure!
I also don’t think I’ve said ‘Ant-Man’ enough yet in this post. Ant-Man!
Also, tune into my blog tomorrow when I will rank all of the Marvel movies from least favorite to most favorite!

6 Video Game to Movie Adaptations That Don’t Have to Suck
One year from now, the Warcraft movie will arrive in theaters and hopefully put all other video game movie adaptations to shame. And the Assassin’s Creed movie will apparently start filming this Fall. Both of those could be brilliant, or at least that’s what I’m hoping. Until then, we’re going to have to make due with that Adam Sandler movie that’s based off that one episode of Futurama. Video games and movies just don’t go together all that well, for some reason.
So I’m here to tell you that it can be done! I have a few ideas.
Considering some of the best video games are already pretty cinematic, I don’t see why it’s so hard to adapt a killer video game into an awesome movie. But whether they change everything completely, like the Resident Evil series, or play things way too straight, like the Mortal Kombat series, or just go insane, like the Mario Bros. movie, Hollywood just can’t seem to get video games right.
Join me after the jump for six video game to movie adaptations that I think would actually be pretty cool.
And Just Like That, Here’s the Suicide Squad!
Sunday had a big surprise for everybody: the first cast pic of the Suicide Squad! Everybody’s in costume!
From left, we’ve got Slipknot, Captain Boomerang, Enchantress, Katana, Rick Flagg, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Killer Croc and El Diablo. They’re also all played by cool actors, but I’ve only got so many fingers for typing.
My initial reaction was shock, because there’s a whole lot to take in when you first see this picture. Then once you start looking it over, there’s a lot to like. Katana, Killer Croc, Boomerang and especially Deadshot look great. Slipknot and Diablo are clearly just there as cannon fodder. And Harley Quinn looks…OK, she looks OK.
Speaking of Deadshot, played by Will Smith, here we have a solo shot with the mask and everything!
I am definitely down for Will Smith to kick all kinds of butt in this movie.
Though I’m disappointed that Joker isn’t in this picture. I’ve been hoping beyond hope that Joker was actually a member of Task Force X and not some Hannibal Lecter guy in a cell. But we’ll see!
