Nope, I Still Don’t Care About Morbius
The Morbius movie has a new, extra-large trailer and it does nothing to get me excited for this movie. If anything, it underlines how basic and boring this movie looks. The reminder at the end that it’s coming out in January is all I need to know that this is gonna suck.
The movie feels very basic. There’s the white male lead character, the POC best friend character, and the female love interest. The trailer is very clear about highlighting his super powers, as if anybody goes to a superhero movie because the powers seem cool. The dialogue is hokey, including that Venom joke. I’ve seen both Venom movies. Venom is not well known enough for people to be making Venom jokes like that.
Morbius just doesn’t look good. And I never thought it would be. But I am more than willing for it to prove me wrong when it comes out in the middle of January.

6 Other Marvel Concepts I Don’t Care About (Like the Eternals)
Eternals arrives in theaters this week and apparently it’s very decisive. It’s the first Marvel movie to premiere with a Certified Rotten rating at Rotten Tomatoes, and a certain segment of the internet is super happy to dunk on Marvel Studios with that fact. Personally, I don’t care. I don’t use Rotten Tomatoes to decide if I should watch a movie or not, especially not a Marvel movie.
But I can’t help but note that, even though I am a lifelong fan of Marvel Comics, I couldn’t care less about the Eternals the characters.
I don’t know what I’m going to think about the movie this weekend. I’m going to go see it opening weekend, and my review will be up a week from now in the next List of Six. But I do know that I do not care about the Eternals whatsoever. Not as a concept. Not as characters. I’m not even very excited about this movie. I’ll gladly see what Marvel does with them, but hoo boy, the Eternals as comic book characters are pretty much duds all around. So to honor the release of the movie, I’m going to take a look at other Marvel Comics characters and concepts that I also don’t care for.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/30/21
Very interesting week in comics for me. Not a big week, but some issues that show very stark differences in what I like to see in a new comic vs. what I don’t like to see. I think there is a world of difference between how Marvel is presenting the new Amazing Spider-Man vs. how DC is presenting the new Wonder Girl.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Inferno #2 for a whole heck of a lot of really good character work starring all our favorite X-Men.
Meanwhile, I’m finally watching season 5 of The Expanse and it is wonderful. I love this show so much! And season 6 is right around the corner! And I’m still playing Back 4 Blood and having a blast killing zombies and leveling up. Things are good. Today I’m heading out to go see The French Dispatch in a theater about an hour away. I hope it’s worth the extra drive.

The 6 Dorkiest PSA One-Off Comic Characters
Comic books have been many things over the years, such as a place where corporate partnerships lead to awkward superhero tie-ins or a place where Hostess fruit pies are the be-all, end-all of the universe. One of the most fascinating types of comics are the public service announcement comics, trying to teach kids to say no to drugs or the dangers of carbon monoxide. A lot of times, these PSAs feature either the heroes talking to teens about the problem or they fight one of their classic comic book villains.
But sometimes, a brand new, PSA-specific villain is created to take on classic superheroes and that’s what we’re talking about today! The weirdest, silliest, creepiest one-off comic book villains created for ancient PSA comics!
I just thought this would be fun. Comic book professionals went to the trouble of writing and designing these characters. They’re like NFL Superpro or Combo-Man, but far less interesting or entertaining. By all accounts, these villains might even be canon. Maybe they’ll be re-used in a real, legitimate comic book one day. I can only hope. But until then, let’s check out the first and only appearances of some very educational comic book villains!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/23/21
Here we go! Another week of good comics. Another week around this Earth. Another week of the usual stuff. Lots of comics this week, especially from DC. Batman, Black Manta, Superman; it’s a real juicy pile!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Nightwing #85 for an issue rich in character and heart, even as it ties into a bigger story.
Meanwhile, I have been having a pretty crap week. Just one headache on top of another on top of a literal headache. But still I soldier on. Finally got to play Back 4 Blood with a full crew of my friends. I’ve been having a lot of fun with that game. I finally got back into reading Invincible after watching the TV show. That’s going nicely. And a new bookstore opened in my town, and they are selling Gamer Girl & Vixen comics! So that’s a hoot.
