Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/23/25

Lots of comics this week, a lot going on, and I read a bunch and reviewed a couple. I wonder if I should start doing mini-reviews for the comics I read but don’t think are worth a full length review…Anyway, here’s Wonder Woman.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Batman #10 for a pretty gnarly origin story for Absolute Bane.

Bane loves breaking backs

Meanwhile, I’ve wrapped up Death Stranding 2 and enjoyed that game very much! Now I’m gameless for a month until Ghost of Yokei comes out. I’m enjoying Alien: Earth and loved the first episode of Peacemaker. And soon I will be binging both the new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the new Netflix show Long Story Short. Can’t wait!

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #11, Black Cat #1 and Wonder Woman #24.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/9/25

Welp, here we are. It’s August. We all continue to trudge along in our lives. The only thing we can look forward to is new comics, like Absolute Superman!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Captain America #2 for a proper introduction of my new most anticipated character: Captain America!

Captains America

Meanwhile, I continue to stretch Death Stranding 2 out as long as I can. I’m sure I could just rush to the finish, but then I don’t know how interested I am in cleaning up in the post-game. We’ll find out. I’ve been watching the second and final season of The Sandman and I dare say it continues to be a solid adaptation. I’m pleased to see that they’re actually ending the TV show like they did the comic. Should be fun.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Superman #10, Captain America #2 and Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League #1.

6 Thoughts on Fantastic Four: First Steps (Review)

At long last, the new and fourth attempt at a Fantastic Four movie has arrived at our theaters, this time by the actual Marvel Studios. Did you know that I have never seen Fan4stic? It was apparently bad and I’ve never had enough curiosity to watch it. And I knew Marvel would get the rights back eventually.

Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great

Personally, I would have been fine had Marvel found a way to fit the Fantastic Four into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe. I had my own idea once on how to make it work. But screw all of that because this retro, multiverse idea worked flawlessly! I loved the vibe, I loved the world, I loved the characters, I loved the movie!

Join me after the jump for my full thoughts on Fantastic Four: First Steps. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the film. And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.

Eyes of Wakanda Comes Out on Friday!

We knew the new Eyes of Wakanda cartoon was coming…but did we know that the entire 4-episode series will come out this Friday?! That’s soon! I can’t wait to watch this weekend!

Especially since we’re going to get an Iron Fist in this show! Wowzers! That’s pretty fun. I think Eyes of Wakanda is going to be about the history of Wakanda’s secret spies, traveling the world to collect Vibranium. I think it might also involve traveling dimensions? I don’t like that part. Just show us historic Wakanda in the main timeline. But I guess we’ll see what actually happens this weekend.

Eyes of Wakanda comes to Disney+ on Friday, Aug. 1!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 7/19/25

As expected, this busy week has come to an end and we can all relax and enjoy some comics. Except that I didn’t enjoy a lot of this week’s comics! For possibly the first time in a long time, there are some real stinkers in my review column!

But not Comic Book of the Week Absolute Batman #10, for some truly excellent, Batman-themed horror.

Presented without context

Meanwhile, I continue to slowly make my way through Death Stranding 2. I’m very much enjoying the game. Or maybe I just enjoy giving myself virtual busy work? Who’s to say. Other than that, I’m excited for Fantastic Four: First Steps this week, and do hope to get my Superman review up sooner rather than later.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #10, Absolute Flash #5, Exceptional X-Men #11, Imperial #2 and Wonder Woman #23.
