Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/3/18
What a week for comics. I’m on vacation, so I’m feeling extra lazy. But I still found a couple of OK to good comics to read — and one really bad one! If you were waiting for me to turn on Dan Slott, your time has come!
But we’ve also got the end of Multiple Man (or is it the beginning), and more Heroes in Crisis. Comic Book of the Week goes to West Coast Avengers for another jaunty adventure!
Meanwhile, I stopped reading Jason Aaron’s Avengers awhile ago, so I apparently missed it when he killed Stingray last month, one of my favorite characters and a frequent shout-out dude on this blog. Man. What the freakin’ heck. I just can’t have nice things. We’re still one issue away from finding out if Mimic dies in Extermination.
If that happens, then this year in comics has killed Mimic, Stingray, Phil Urich, possibly Simon Baz and maybe sorta Multiple Man again. This just isn’t my year…
Comic Reviews: Heroes in Crisis #2, Multiple Man #5, Tony Stark – Iron Man #5 and West Coast Avengers #3.
For Those That Care: Jessica and Roger Are Still a Couple!
In the world of comic books, any character or story can change at any time. New writers and creators come and go, putting characters into new and different circumstances. Happens all the time.
And it sucks when you’re a fan of a particular character or a particular status quo. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.
Fortunately, a new comic this week revealed that one of my current favorite comic book relationships is still in tact! Spider-Woman and the Porcupine are still a couple!
That’s Roger Gocking hanging out with Jessica Drew, helping her to raise her son. The Spider-Woman comic, written by Dennis Hopeless, ended in April 2017, and it was one of my favorite comics. The relationship between Jessica and Roger was adorable. But there was every reason to fear that a new writer or a new creative direction for Spider-Woman would ditch Roger in a heart beat. There’s absolutely no reason to keep them together, other than appreciation of what Hopeless wrote — and that’s not enough to keep characters together in today’s ruthless comic book world.
But the new issue of Spider-Force stars Jessica Drew, and we get that quick check-in with Roger. So awesome. I’m a happy comic book fan today.
Also, that panel features Kaine, who is also still alive. That’s fun too!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/27/18
Why do my favorite comics only come out on the same week? I’ll get a whole truckload of great comics I love, so I’m doing upwards of 8 reviews in one week! And then we’ll get a week like this, where I scrape together a couple comics I’d mostly given up on just to have something to review and post about. It’s not fair.
We’re going to dive back into The Silencer and Amazing Spider-Man this week. And I go on a pretty ugly rant about how much I dislike the new direction of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. But at least Action Comics wins Comic Book of the Week…by default. Though it’s not bad.
Meanwhile, I nearly forgot to post these reviews because I was gearing up to spend my entire Saturday playing Red Dead Redemption 2, so you know where my head is at this weekend.
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1004, Amazing Spider-Man #8, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #32 and The Silencer #10.
6 Thoughts on the Third Season of Daredevil
The Netflix Defenders are in free fall! Within the past week or so, both Iron Fist and Luke Cage have been cancelled! It’s quite the shocker! I always pictured these four shows — along with Daredevil and Jessica Jones — as being a package deal. And does Netflix really cancel shows? Is that how they work?
Whatever the case may be, the third season of Daredevil arrived to remind us all that these shows can be damn good!
Comic Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
Daredevil remains the standout show of the entire experiment. With the exception of the season 2 finale, I’ve loved everything about the Daredevil show, so I’m quite pleased at another exciting season. Though if I’m being honest, Daredevil isn’t among the best TV of the year for me. It’s fun and exciting, but for me, it falls just under the radar of being must-watch television. Still good though.
Join me after the jump for my thoughts on the latest season. Except FULL SPOILERS for the whole season. And feel free to share your own reviews in the comments.
Check Out Spider-Man’s New Costume in this Bad Skit!
Spider-Man is going to get a new suit in his upcoming sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home. It’s red and black instead of red and blue. I like the red and blue one better.
Anyway, there were a couple leaked photos from set that showed off the new suit, and some candid ones on Instagram. But we got our first real look of the suit in this poorly written and acted skit from Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The suit looks pretty cool, but that skit is just plain bad. Jimmy Kimmel is supposed to have better writers than that. And Tom Holland, oy. Everyone involved can do better.
