My 6 Favorite “Sixth” Members

The Green Ranger is the best Power Ranger. It’s indisputable. He was the coolest, had the best costume and was just plain awesome. And ever since I saw him karate kick his way onto my weekday afternoon television screen, I have loved the “Sixth” Member of teams. On TV Tropes, this trope is actually called the “Sixth Ranger” specifically because of the Green Ranger, but I didn’t want anybody to think this was a list only about sixth Power Rangers.

Sixth Ranger List 01

I know this is the Gold Ranger, but he’s a strong runner-up

The trope is that you take an established group or team of characters, and then some time later, you add an extra member to the roster. Sometimes it’s a bad guy turned good. Sometimes it’s a new member. Sometimes it’s just a hanger-on. But whatever the case, this is one of my favorite character tropes and I wanted to share!

So join me after the jump for some of my favorite fictional characters, almost entirely because they’re the “Sixth” member of an established group. It’s a pretty reliable thing for me.

My 6 Favorite Episodes of Batman: The Animated Series

Batman: The Animated Series has been getting a lot of attention recently because a big full-series DVD collection came out. Like most comic book geeks, I was a huge fan of the cartoon when it came out in the 1990s, a staple of my after school entertainment. So how about a trip down memory lane for my favorite episodes?

BTAS Episode List 01

He is the night

This isn’t a list of the best episodes of the series. And i’m going to try to base this list less on hindsight and more on my own memories from when I was a kid glued to the TV screen. There are three important facts that one needs to know before checking out my list of favorite B:TAS episodes: 1.) I don’t care about the Joker, so his episodes meant little to me; 2.) I was an idiot as a kid, and didn’t fully appreciate gems like Heart of Ice; and 3.) I loved anything with Robin in it.

With those factoids out of the way, let’s dive into my favorite episodes from when I was a kid! And feel free to share your own favorite episodes in the comments!

My 6 Favorite Comic Characters Created by Stan Lee

Stan “The Man” Lee passed away this week at the age of 95. He had a good, long life, full of imagination and storytelling, two things I hold very near and dear. Not only was he instrumental in revolutionizing the comic book industry — which dominates my life, hopes and dreams — but he’s been enjoying a delightfully fun resurgence in pop culture over the past two decades with his movie cameos.

Stan Lee is a legend. And the best way I can honor him is by geeking out over some of my favorite comic book characters!

ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat" - Season Three

1922 – 2018

I never had the pleasure of meeting Stan Lee. I think the most I ever managed was seeing him board an escalator at New York Comic-Con once. That’s good enough for me. I’ve never been one for hero worship, especially with famous people and celebrities. But there’s no denying that Stan Lee created a fictional world that means everything to me, and has inspired me to dedicate my own life to creating awesome fictional worlds. Gotta give the guy props for that.

So join me after the jump for my favorite Stan Lee creations in comics! And please feel free to share your own in the comments!

6 Genres for Rockstar to Develop Next

Look, I’m going to level with you fine readers. I’ve spent the past week hip deep in Red Dead Redemption 2, gleefully shootin’ and hollerin’ my way across the old west. Or the new west, whatever the story might be. I haven’t done very much critical thinking beyond whether or not to rob that stage coach. So how about a list of other storytelling genres video game developer Rockstar could develop games for?

Rockstar Genre List 01

I’m still not entirely sure if that’s Arthur or John in the logo

The beauty of a Rockstar game is in the immersion. There are plenty of well-made sandbox games out there, but none reach the depth of world like a Rockstar game. From growing and styling your beard to polishing your guns to tracking animals to realistic mud physics, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a work of art. It’s a game where I like to just walk around, because it wouldn’t fit the story/world/character if he sprinted everywhere.

So Rockstar needs to abandon whatever money-making plans and start whole new franchise! They’ve got cops & robbers with Grand Theft Auto, they’ve got the wild west with Red Dead Redemption and they’ve got a boarding school setting with Bully. Join me after the jump for some loosely imagined other options!

The Top 6 Skeletons in Comics

Happy Halloween, everybody! Through the magic of calendars and the slow, unending passage of time, Halloween is on a Wednesday this week, the day I release my List of Six! And what better way to celebrate Halloween and this geeky comic blog than a spooky listicle! How about skeletons?

Skeleton List 01

Your skeleton is moist

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love the pageantry, and I love the premise of kids getting dressed up in costumes and going door-to-door for candy, and the idea of adults getting dressed up and going to parties. It’s insane and I love it. And I like celebrating Halloween on my blog with a look at spooky things in comics. I’ve done ghosts, witchesCerberus and classic movie monsters. Now it’s time for skelingtons! Or skeletons, whichever pronunciation you prefer.

Join me after the jump for the best, boniest skeletons in comic books!
