The 6 Most Heroic Comic Book Witches
It’s that time of year again, the spookiest time of year! Happy Halloween, my henchies! Welcome to my favorite holiday, which calls for a holiday-themed List of Six! In the past, I’ve done lists on comic book ghosts and classic movie monsters, and this year I’ve decided to focus on everyone’s favorite green-skinned, wart-covered cacklers: witches!
Though witches haven’t been gross and scary for years, thanks to the likes of Willow, Hermione Granger and the ladies of Charmed! Witches are actually kind of cute, and a lot of them are heroes. But not every magic-user can be a witch. It takes a special sort of warrior woman to earn this important rank – though I’ll admit, it helps if they have ‘witch’ in their name.
Join me after the jump for some of the coolest, most badass witches in comics!
6 More of the Best and Worst Female Superhero Halloween Costumes
I learned something rather interesting in putting together this year’s Halloween costume list: when the costumes are of female characters, they’re actually pretty awesome. It’s when costume makers try to do ‘sexy’ female versions of male characters that everybody goes skirt-crazy.
Oh sure, you’re going to find ‘sexy’ costumes for almost any popular character, as well as costumes that amount to little more than themed mini-skirts. I covered some of those in my first list of female superhero costumes. But when it comes to legit, full-bodied costumes that try to capture a specific character, some times the options are insane…and sometimes they are insanely awesome!
The first such list I did, three years ago, remains one of my most popular blog posts. It always gets a lot of traffic when Halloween comes around. Then I did follow-up lists for men and kids. But instead of going the next obvious route (dogs), I decided to scour the costume websites to find more good and bad female costumes. A lot of new superhero movies have come and gone in three years, and I wanted to see what was out there. I judge these costumes on accuracy to the character and overall costume aesthetic. Is it just a smock with Iron Man painted on it? Then no thank you, sir!
Well I am so very pleased with what I found! Join me after the jump for some ghoulish fun! And there’s still time to get out to the store to pick up your costume, lady readers!
6 Potential Mega-Franchises Just Waiting To Make Billions
The buzz in Hollywood these days is that every studio wants their own mega-franchise. After Disney and Marvel scored billions with their Avengers mega-franchise, we have Warner Bros. and DC trying to build one out of Superman and the Justice League, SONY trying to build one out of Spider-Man, and there are rumors that Universal is going to crossover all their classic monsters (starting with Dracula Untold), and that SONY wants to make one out of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. If you’re a screenwriter in Hollywood these days, plan for a mega-franchise.
I’m not a screenwriter in Hollywood these days, but I can still have fun planning a mega-franchise!
The question, which movie franchises can become mega-franchises? Everybody with their hands on a superhero is already pushing for one. Star Wars is going to be a mindless series of sequels and spin-offs from now until the end of time. And I bet they’ll find a way to turn James Bond and Star Trek into some kind of mega-franchises before too long. Rebooted original crew teams up with rebooted Next Generation crew? Done! I’ll take my giant check now, Paramount!
In fact, all major Hollywood studios should get out their check books because I’m about to blow their minds with 6 potential mega-franchises just waiting to earn them billions!
The 6 Most Unconventional Transformers
I’m not a car guy. I can drive them just fine, but I don’t know a thing about them. I used to drive a Chrysler Sebring, and now I drive a Chevy Impala, but they might as well be the same car for all I really know. So it shouldn’t be any surprise that my favorite Transformers are a fire truck, a Mountain Dew machine and a wolf/eagle hybrid. There’s just no way to get me to care about Transformers who are cars, even if that’s kind of the entire premise.
Unless that car is the Batmobile, of course.
Fortunately for geeks like me, not all of the Transformers are hot rods and sports cars. There’s a whole minority of weird but awesome vehicles out there. Of course, you’ve got your Beast Wars, your Constructicons and your transforming planets, but these 6 are some of the best unconventional Transformers in the bunch.
6 Other Potential TV Crossovers
In a television event that is almost as historic as the final episode of M*A*S*H, The Simpsons crossed over with Family Guy this past weekend, creating a relatively mild episode for both shows. I liked it, in the same way I generally like any new episode of The Simpsons or Family Guy. I will always be a fan of both shows, but I think we’ve all settled into a general state of mediocre acceptance. Still, whoever though it would happen, right?
Although actually, I’m kind of wondering why it doesn’t happen more often! Crossovers are the bee’s knees, I tell ya! Why aren’t there more of them? Like Freddy vs. Jason, Aliens vs. Predator, that time The Critic guest-starred on The Simpsons, or when the Ninja Turtles met the Power Rangers; it’s all gold! If it was up to me, we’d have even more of them. I know there are different networks and contracts and executives in the way, but I’m the sort of man who daydreams of a perfect utopia of entertainment.
So join me after the jump to see my six ideas for the most epic TV crossovers imaginable!
