How About Some DC Trailers for Once?

I’m not just all about the Marvel, people! I like DC stuff too! At least when they deliver good stuff! For example, I’m pretty excited by this trailer for the second season of Titans. I enjoyed the first season, especially all the awesome, live action Robin stuff. Season 2 seems to be taking us closer to Nightwing!

And, thankfully, we’ve got a Bruce Wayne for Dick Grayson to bounce off of. It was really frustrating when all of Dick Grayson’s seminal moments growing up were alone instead of with Bruce/Batman.

The new season starts on Sept. 6 — my birthday!

There’s also a new trailer for the Joker movie. I am less excited about this one.

As I’ve mentioned plenty of times before, I just don’t care about the Joker. And a movie about the Joker without Batman? I dunno…Granted, I’ll go see it opening day, because that’s the sort of person I am. But this trailer isn’t getting me too excited. Seems like just a crazy movie about a guy going crazy who happens to be the Joker.

But we’ll see! Maybe it’ll be really good. Joker arrives in theaters on Oct. 4.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/24/19

What a roller coaster week for comic book fans! In the same week that we lose Spider-Man in the MCU (for now), we also learn that we’re getting Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk in the MCU! Honestly, I’m OK with that trade, though I’m confident Disney and Sony will return to the bargaining table. Spider-Man isn’t even part of Phase 4, so there’s plenty of time.

At least this week’s comics were pretty great! Batman, Jimmy Olsen, Iron Man, Valkyrie; all quality comics. But I’m going to give Comic Book of the Week to Powers of X #3 for a twist that gives this event a nice shot to the arm as we near the midway point.

And just for an instant, Xorn is cool

Meanwhile, I may give up on Guardians of the Galaxy for now. I’ve always been lukewarm about this comic. It’s fine and enjoyable, and clearly well written, but it hasn’t really been doing anything for me, personally. The latest issue is mostly a recap of Rocket Raccoon’s origins, coupled with what turns out to be a really lame reason why everybody hates Rocket. Maybe I’ll keep trying going forward, but based on solicitations for November, Beta Ray Bill might be moving on to a new Annihilation story anyway.

Of course, that comic is written by Matthew Rosenberg, killer of superheroes, so maybe Bill’s inclusion is a bad sign.

Comic Reviews: Batman #77, Jimmy Olsen #2, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #6, Powers of X #3, Tony Stark – Iron Man #15 and Valkyrie #2.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/10/19

Interesting week of comics this week! Both Agents of Atlas and Future Foundation get their first issues this week, so Marvel is kicking off two new team books. But we’ve also got ongoing comics from Batman, Green Lantern and more! House of X shakes things up yet again and nothing will ever be the same!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Lois Lane #2. House of X is good, don’t get me wrong, but Lois Lane is damn good.

My life as a reporter is never this dangerous

Meanwhile, I tried out the first issue of Absolute Carnage, despite not reading any of Donny Cates’ previous Venom and/or Carnage stories. The first issue is really great. It establishes the story well and delivers some quality Spider-Man and Venom entertainment, keeping the story grounded and realistic. Cates writes a really good Spider-Man!

I’ll probably keep reading this main series, but I’m probably only going to review the Scream mini-series, because I remain wholly dedicated to Scream for some reason. She’s my favorite symbiote and I’m happy to see her in action again.

Comic Reviews: Agents of Atlas #1, Batman #76, Black Cat #3, Future Foundation #1, Green Lantern #10, House of X #2 and Lois Lane #2.

Titans is Adding a Bunch of New Stuff to Season 2!

I enjoyed the first season of Titans on the DC streaming service. It treated the characters well, had a good story and presented the best live action Robin we’ve ever had. That counts for a lot with me. Well season 2 is on the way!

That’s a pretty rushed trailer, but there’s still a lot to show off. More Robin! Jason Todd! A cooler looking Raven! Bruce freakin’ Wayne, finally! Maybe we’ll even get Nightwing.

It’s a good show. I’m excited for seasons 2!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/3/19

Comics, Comics, Comics! Comics, Comics, Comics! Let’s all read some comics! Some pretty good ones this week!

We’ve got more Captain America and Fantastic Four! We’ve got the bold first issue of Powers of X! And we’ve got the Comic Book of the Week, a wonderfully drama-filled issue of Runaways!

Let’s all go get costumes

Meanwhile, I got a request from writer Scott Snyder to check out his Last Knight on Earth and Batman Who Laughs issues this week. Expect the review of the first, but I haven’t been following Batman Who Laughs, and wasn’t going to buy and cram in seven whole issues this week. But any professional comic writers who want another review of their comics, feel free to reach out and let me know!

What would you henchies think about me reviewing indie and amateur comics? Being a self-published comic writer myself, I want to help my fellow writers, but I can be really, really lazy. Would you readers like to see some amateur comic reviews on my blog? Let me know!

Comic Reviews: Batman – Last Knight on Earth #2, Captain America #12, Fantastic Four #12, Powers of X #1 and Runaways #23.
