Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/22/20
Welcome to my random page of comic book reviews! I do this every weekend, because I love comics and I love stories. This week I look into new issues of Batman, Marauders, New Mutants and more!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Wonder Twins #12, the wrap-up to my favorite comic series of the past year! This was such a wonderful series, and Mark Russell and Stephen Byrne stick the landing with class and heart.
Meanwhile, I checked out the first issue of the new Wolverine series but have decided not to do a review. It’s a triple-sized beast of a comic and it’s fine, but my review would mostly be summed up as, “Yeah, these are some fine Wolverine stories.” Nothing really blew the lid off the place in Wolverine #1, unless you count this possible reveal of a new Multiple Man costume! I feel like this should be bigger news across the comic book media landscape.
Comic Reviews: Batman #89, Legion of Super-Heroes #4, Marauders #8, New Mutants #7, Runaways #30 and Wonder Twins #12.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/15/20
I have an addiction to ordering graphic novels on Amazon. Admitting I have a problem is the first step. But in better news, I finally have my hands on Spider-Man: Life Story! I’ll let you know what I think!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Thor #3, because nothing tickles my pinks quite like an awesome guest appearance from Beta Ray Bill!
Meanwhile, I didn’t like the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. I suppose one argument could be made that I should cut an obvious kids’ movie some slack, but we’ve all seen good kids movies. This is just a dumb film filled with cliches and tropes. And they don’t really get Sonic right. He’s all about attitude, but movie Sonic is a hopeful, lonely kid who just wants a friend. And as the tropes dictate, he gets at least one.
Comic Reviews: Go Go Power Rangers #29, The Green Lantern #1, Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey #1, Iron Man 2020 #2, Thor #3 and X-Men #6.
Batman Has a New Costume; I Don’t Like It
The Batman has started filming. The movie with Robert Pattinson in the lead role and a whole bunch of villains is going to happen. I’m all for it! I like a good Batman movie. And director Matt Reeves gave us our first look at the new Batsuit last night.
I don’t care for it.
It looks almost exactly like every other modern Batman costume. It’s all hard, thick armor and normal human eyes. I’m not saying I need him to be wearing spandex or anything, but maybe a happy middle ground? Maybe something new and creative?
Ah well, life is what it is.
No word on Robin as of yet…

6 Thoughts on Birds of Prey
Sadly, it seems that Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is not doing very well at the box office. Which is a damn shame, because I really enjoyed this movie! It’s a rock n’rolling good time of color, energy, bone-crunches and girl power!

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
Birds of Prey is in a really weird place. DC has long since abandoned their dreams of a DC Cinematic Universe, but Margot Robbie was so good as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad that they’re not ready to give her up. So what do you do? You forge ahead with Birds of Prey and hope for the best! And for me, they did a great job! Birds of Prey is a wildly entertaining film that makes great use of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. It also makes great use of the R-rating, delivering an action movie that specializes in being as hard-hitting as possible. It adds an extra level of fun to an already entertaining film.

Oh no, wait, Warner Bros. has since changed the name to just Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey in the hopes of having a better second weekend. So let’s go with that!
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/8/20
It’s Birds of Prey weekend! I was trapped in a snowstorm yesterday, so I haven’t seen the film yet, but it’s definitely on my docket for this weekend! And I’ll have my review/thoughts at the usual place on Wednesday! Too bad I didn’t read any Birds of Prey-related comics…
But I did enjoy new issues of Marauders, Lois Lane and Batman! So at least that’s something. Comic Book of the Week goes to the stellar debut of Zeb Wells’ new Ant-Man mini-series! Hilarious and fun all in one!
Meanwhile, the big X-Men/Fantastic Four Dawn of X crossover kicked off this week and it was fine. The X-Men really come off as jerks…and then the Fantastic Four kind of comic off as jerks. It’s not a good showing for anybody. I feel like the X-Men could handle superhero diplomacy a little better if they really want to solidify their new status quo.
Comic Reviews: Ant-Man #1, Batman #88, Doctor Doom #5, Lois Lane #8, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #12 and Marauders #7.
