The 6 Mightiest Lion Superheroes

Why are there no famous lion superheroes? Lions are the king of the jungle! They’ve got that badass mane to signify their dominance! The females do the hunting! Lions are pretty cool animals, but they are poorly represented in the world of comic book characters. We’ve got a Batman and a Spider-Man for crying out loud, but no prominent lion heroes!

Lion List 01

In the jungle, the mighty jungle

I’ve made it a List of Six hobby of mine to track down all the comic book characters based on obscure but interesting creatures. I’ve done frogs, dogs, pigs, eagles, dinosaurs and more! And now we’re going to take a deep dive into the history of superhero comics to detail some obscure, but no less interesting, comic book characters based on lions! Surprisingly, a lot of them are actually super-villains!

Join me after the jump for six of the mightiest, king of the jungliest, lion-themed characters in comics!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/18/20

New comic books are here! And they’re pretty awesome this week! New issues of Go Go Power Rangers and Jane Foster: Valkyrie prove once again why I love comics! But as great as they are, there was an issue that was just a touch more special this week.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Legion of Super-Heroes #3 because it’s a fun issue, and that is surprising. It’s not the best and most interesting comic this week, but the new Legion issue does something I didn’t expect: finally warrants its own existence.

Robin Arrives in Future 01

One of the few times I have felt like Damian was really Robin

Meanwhile, new Dawn of X comics keep getting announced left and right. I’m still worried that all of these comics are just classic X-Men titles with random rosters, just like every other X-Men relaunch…but then Jonathan Hickman posted on Twitter that nobody is required to buy them all. Just buy what you like, and don’t buy what you don’t. That’s pretty solid advice.

Comic Reviews: Go Go Power Rangers #27, Iron Man 2020 #1, Legion of Super-Heroes #3, Runaways #27 and Valkyrie #7.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/11/20

Short week for me this week in terms of comic reviews. I was blind-sided by stuff both at work and at home, so I didn’t have much time to read too many comics. Such is life! But we’ve got a new era of Batman to look into and my return to Magnificent Ms. Marvel, as requested by you henchies!

Comic Book of the Week goes to New Mutants #5 for a charming and fun space story. Charming and fun are two of my favorite things in comics.

Hot Lady Bird 01

There have been worse X-Men plots

Meanwhile, I’ve fallen behind on Excalibur and X-Force. I considered getting caught up this week, but like I said, I was pretty busy, and I just couldn’t muster much interest in these comics anymore. I think that’s an overall sign of my thoughts on Dawn of X as a whole…

Comic Reviews: Batman #86, Magnificent Ms. Marvel #11 and New Mutants #5.

Birds of Prey Looks Crazier and Crazier!

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is only one month away and so another trailer has landed on our internets to show us how wackadoo it’s going to be! And it’s going to be very wackadoo!

I’m a little nervous about this movie. It comes out in February, early February, which is always an awkward time for new movies. But we’ve had some great ones in past years, like Black Panther and The LEGO Movie. Could Birds of Prey be one of those? I like how it looks so far. I think Margot Robbie is great as Harley Quinn and I have high hopes for the rest of this nifty cast.

But is it going to be too wackadoo for audiences? We’ll find out on Feb. 7!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/4/20

Happy New Year, everybody! It’s 2020, so we’ve got a whole new year of comic book fun to look forward to! The year starts off on a strong foot, with enjoyable issues of Doctor Doom, Lois Lane and the kickoff to the new Thor by Donny Cates! He does a pretty solid job starting off.

Comic Book of the Week goes to the new issue of X-Men for finally doing something worthy of the new status quo of Dawn of X! Also, Apocalypse is interesting for the first time ever.

Magneto Dines 01

A mutant of culture

Meanwhile, my brother got me the first Saga compendium for Christmas. It’s a pretty huge book, containing upwards of 50 issues. I’m both tempted and fearful about reading all that Saga again. Someday I’ll to give it a shot, for sure.

Comic Reviews: Doctor Doom #4, Lois Lane #7, Marauders #5, Thor #1 and X-Men #4.
