Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/19/16

This was another great week for comics! I am loving so many books these days. Most of them are Marvel, but I’m really trying to branch out into other comics. But those other comics are going to have to wait, because this week it’s all about great Marvel Comics!

For the first time ever, I’m splitting Comic Book of the Week between two issues: Power Man and Iron Fist #2 and Spider-Woman #5. Both were amazing comics, and both offered a new revelation to me: a lived in, casual Marvel Universe. Both comics tell a very down-to-Earth story about their characters and the hero and villain-populated city they live in, with gossip, friendships, dance clubs and more. Both issues were a true joy to read.

I’m loving the reasonable collars

David Walker and Sanford Greene’s Power Man and Iron Fist is already shaping up as the Comic Book of the Year, and we’re only two issues in.

Comic Reviews: Astonishing Ant-Man #6, Captain Marvel #3, Power Man and Iron Fist #2, Silk #6 and Spider-Woman #5.

My 6 Favorite Female Comic Book Characters

Once upon a time, back when I started this blog, one of my first Lists of Six was of my favorite comic book characters of all time. The list is all men, in large part because I settled on my list of favorites back when I was a kid, and Young Sean wasn’t all that interested in female characters. Or facial hair. I didn’t like characters with mustaches for some reason.

So in honor of Women’s History Month, I want to talk about my six favorite female comic book characters.

I need to catch up on A-Force

This is a purely personal list. These are the characters I enjoy reading about, characters whose existence alone will almost guarantee I take a look at a comic. I love seeing them pop up in cartoons and movies. And I’m usually excited to see how their characters grow and change. We all have our favorite characters for one reason or another, and these are some of mine.

Read the First Issue of Gamer Girl & Vixen for Free!

As we gear up for the next Kickstarter on April 2, my team and I are offering the first issue of Gamer Girl & Vixen for everyone to read! All you have to do is sign up for our mailing list and we’ll send you a link to download Gamer Girl & Vixen #1. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

We’ll be using the mailing list to advertise comic news, and other news from the LGBT community. It’ll go out likely twice a month. And there will be more Gamer Girl & Vixen news as we get closer to the Kickstarter next month. Has anybody read the first issue yet? What did you think? Let everybody know in the comments!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/12/16

Is anybody else excited for March? By this time next week, we’ll all be buried in the second season of Daredevil! That is beyond exciting! And by this time in two weeks, we’ll all have seen Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice! For some reason, March 2016 is a good month in geekiness.

So it’s good that we have good comics, too! This week delivered more solid goodness from Wolverine, Doctor Strange, Ms. Marvel, Starfire and more. They were so good, I kind of think I should start reviewing other comics, because I praise these too much.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Thor #5, as Jason Aaron delivers more than a few showstoppers!

Feels like somebody is missing…

Speaking of good comics, remember to mark your calendars for April 2, when the new Kickstarter for Gamer Girl & Vixen launches! In fact, I think I’ll have some even bigger news about my comic tomorrow! So come back then!

Comic Book Reviews: All-New Wolverine #6, Doctor Strange #6, Mighty Thor #5, Ms. Marvel #5 and Starfire 10.

The World of Comics Just Got a Lot More Adorable

It’s the crossover I never knew I wanted, but now I can’t think of anything better. DC Comics and BOOM! Studios are going to work together to crossover Lumberjanes and Gotham Academy in a summer mini-series! Village Voice has the details on the creative team!

It's just so beautiful

It’s just so beautiful

This is beyond cool. Like…I don’t even know how to describe how cool this is. An inter-company crossover? How does that even happen?! How does the universe allow such greatness to exist? I live in the universe, I know how horrible it can be.

We’re not supposed to have nice things!

But maybe, just maybe, the Lumberjanes and the students of Gotham Academy can team up and go on an adventure into our imaginations!

Starting in June.
