Mosaic is an Alright Guy, But Marvel Might Not Know How His Powers Work

I want to get one thing straight right off the bat: I kid because I love. I love Marvel Comics. I love the X-Men. And from Schism to Secret Wars, I absolutely loved what Marvel was doing with Cyclops. They made him the most fascinating character in their universe, with more shades of gray than a steamy, fan fiction romance novel.

Which is why I’m so disappointed that Marvel is completely futzing up Cyclops’ story in the current Inhumans vs. X-Men crossover. All the nuance and complexity is gone as they forcefully paint Cyclops and the X-Men as monsters — until the new issue this week, which might just prove that Marvel knows what they’re doing after all. And it all hinges on that most interesting of new characters, Mosaic.

Words to live by

For those of you who don’t know, Mosaic is a new Inhuman with the power to jump into your mind and control you like a puppet. He’s also the star of his own brand new ongoing solo series, which is very rare for Marvel these days. They don’t just go around handing ongoing solo comics to brand new characters.

I’ve been reading Mosaic and it’s alright. Personally, I think it’s wasting time on surface level stuff instead of diving into the real drama that’s simmering in the background, but maybe that’s just me. Regardless, Mosaic is a pretty interesting dude, and he plays a pivotal role in this week’s issue of Inhumans vs. X-Men.

How pivotal? Join me after the jump to find out! Also, between all of his appearances in this event, I don’t think the memo is going around about how Mosaic’s body-control powers work.

SPOILERS for Inhumans vs. X-Men #4, as well as the Mosaic ongoing series.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/4/17

Can you believe it’s February already? I know everybody says that all the time, but still. February. Wow. But hey, that hasn’t stopped comics from coming out!

This week saw a nice, competent pile of good books, from new Hawkeye to Nova to Harley Quinn. These are some of my favorites! Comic Book of the Week goes to the second issue of Unstoppable Wasp for creating a truly unstoppably charming character!

Marvel Desperate to Make Cyclops Evil

It’s Hail Mary pass time in the world of X-Men fighting Inhumans, people. It seems that Marvel has realized that something went wrong in their plan to vilify Cyclops, so they are going to dig in their heels and just shoot for the moon on this one. Do Cyclops’ actions from Death of X not make any sense in connection with Marvel’s recent portrayal of the character? Well too bad, because he’s totally a terrorist, you guys. For sure!

Don’t believe me? Wait until you see what Young Cyclops has to say in the pages of All-New X-Men this week!

Only one of these Cyclopses is right

This is a topic I’ve written about a lot before, and I think I’m going to make it an ongoing subject, at least through Inhumans vs. X-Men. It’s just weird to see Marvel twist themselves into knots on this subject! It’s like the right hand and left hand have no idea what the other is doing, but both of them dislike Cyclops!

Join me after the jump for all the ridiculous details. Also! Update on Strong Guy Watch!

The 6 Best Pig Superheroes Who Have Skin in the Game

The Super Bowl is this weekend and, therefore, I wanted to do a List of Six to mark the occasion. But considering I’ve already done a list of sports-themed superheroes, what was I supposed to do next? I don’t know sports ball!

But I do love me some bacon, ham and pork chops! Which all come from a wonderful, magical animal!

I never cared for Spider-Pig

Get it? Pig superheroes? Footballs are nicknamed ‘pigskin’? It fits. Trust me, it fits. And like most good animals, there’s a healthy number of porcine-based comic book characters. So in honor of all the Super Bowl tailgating parties this weekend, join me after the jump for all the best oinkers!

Forgotten Characters: Dr. Francine Langstrom

Whatever happened to Francine Langstrom, the wife of Man-Bat?

Man-Bat is still around. He’s a teacher at Gotham Academy. But whatever happened to his better half, the badass lady scientist that is Francine Langstrom?

Why isn’t DC Comics making better use of this potentially awesome character?

Batman only trusts so many people with his giant laser blasters

Francine Langstrom, for those who don’t know, is the wife of Kirk Langstrom, otherwise known as Man-Bat. They’re a scientist couple who are always working on this formula that turns people into a werebat creature. Kirk and Francine have appeared all over the world of Batman, from Batman: The Animated Series to Batman: Arkham Knight. And as of right now, Francine is languishing in comic book limbo!

Now is the perfect time for Francine to make an awesome comeback! Join me after the jump to find out why!
