6 Other Potential TV Crossovers
In a television event that is almost as historic as the final episode of M*A*S*H, The Simpsons crossed over with Family Guy this past weekend, creating a relatively mild episode for both shows. I liked it, in the same way I generally like any new episode of The Simpsons or Family Guy. I will always be a fan of both shows, but I think we’ve all settled into a general state of mediocre acceptance. Still, whoever though it would happen, right?
I would have loved this when I was 15
Although actually, I’m kind of wondering why it doesn’t happen more often! Crossovers are the bee’s knees, I tell ya! Why aren’t there more of them? Like Freddy vs. Jason, Aliens vs. Predator, that time The Critic guest-starred on The Simpsons, or when the Ninja Turtles met the Power Rangers; it’s all gold! If it was up to me, we’d have even more of them. I know there are different networks and contracts and executives in the way, but I’m the sort of man who daydreams of a perfect utopia of entertainment.

Trailer for the Final Season of Legend of Korra Hits Web, Fails to Impress
I can’t be the only one who hasn’t been all that impressed with the Legend of Korra, right? Every season has essentially been the same, and none of it has been all that great. It’s nowhere near the grand scale and majesty of The Last Airbender. Korra tries, don’t get me wrong, but meh.
Anyway, Nickelodeon is rushing out the final season online next week, and they’ve dropped a sizable trailer. I can’t say as how I’m all that impressed by the trailer, since it’s basically just a bunch of random people bending. The final season is set 3 years after the last one, so it’s also kind of hard to tell characters apart, since some of the kids have grown into puberty. Which one is Korra and which one is Jinora? Also, stay until the very end for the reveal of a nice cameo.
Looks to me like metal-benders are going to be the new Big Bad of the season, and that’s my problem with Legend of Korra in a nutshell: every season is about some new evil person stepping up, and then Korra and her friends struggling all season until they finally pull out a win. The three seasons of The Last Airbender told one massive, epic story, that rightfully focused on he personal and spiritual growth of its characters until they were ready to save the world. Legend of Korra is all about Korra and her dumb friends chasing after a bad guy until the final episode, where she pulls out the win because that’s how this works. There’s been very little personal growth for any character over three seasons, let alone the world as a whole.
I’m gonna watch Season 4, no doubt, but more out of duty than an actual desire to see what happens.
Big Hero 6 is Blowing Me Away!
New Big Hero 6 trailer! It’s super sweet!
I love it! This new trailer adds some real heart to the film, which I didn’t know it had. Plus we finally get to know more about the other members of the team and where their powers/costumes come from. I did not expect that at all. Big Hero 6 should be a good flick!
Dorkly is Doing Cartoons Again!
Anybody else visit Dorkly, the one-stop shop for all things dork? It’s a pretty neat website, and they’ve finally started doing original cartoon shorts again!
Dorkly, in association with College Humor, made some of the funniest geeky and video game-themed video shorts a few years ago. They’re some of the best you’ll find on the web. But they stopped, and a light went out in my life. Now it seems they’re back! And on Youtube, so I can share! Let’s make this sort of thing go the viral. Kids are still saying that, right? Or at least ad execs are?
6 of My Fictional Mary Sues
I make no bones about my life as a young fan fiction writer. I am actually quite proud of the work that Young Sean churned out at such a young age – even if I can rarely bring myself to go back and read the stories I wrote. You can check them out at FanFiction.net. Those stories laid the groundwork for the Sean you know today.
And one of the things I loved more than anything else was creating my own Mary Sue characters in popular fiction. Though back then, I had no idea what a ‘Mary Sue’ even was.
Nope, that’s Mary Jane
According to TVtropes.com, Mary Sue is the derogative term for an original fan fiction character inserted by the author into an already popular series, usually to serve as some kind of wish fulfillment. Mary Sues typically have dramatic backstories, awesome names, unique looks, and more often than not, upstage the main characters. For example, say you wrote a Harry Potter fan fic and inserted your own original Hufflepuff wizard, and the story was all about how your wizard fell in love with Draco Malfoy and turned him into a good guy with the power of love. It’s that sort of idealized character inserted into pre-existing stories.
I don’t think I was ever that bad, but I loved creating my own original characters for all my favorite cartoons and movies. Join me after the jump to take a look at just a few of them, and feel free to share some of your own in the comments! No judgement.
Also, as Google has revealed, I was not the only person in the world to come up with these exact same ideas. But I was young, and the Internet wasn’t a thing yet, so forgive me if some of these ideas aren’t 100% unique or original. They were to me at the time.
