New Doctor Who is On The Way!

The next season of Doctor Who is on its way, possibly with a New Year’s Day special, or perhaps it’ll debut some other time. I dunno. I was fine with the previous season. I like Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, but I don’t think her first season gave her anything really deep or exciting to do. Here’s hoping the new season changes that!

Same Doctor, same companions, same people behind the camera; I really hope they’ve learned some lessons and have produced some better content this time around. I want some real drama, I want some real fun, I want some real meaningful emotion for the Doctor. Honestly, I can barely remember what happened in the previous season…

Here’s hoping for some greatness this year!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/23/19

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving, everybody! By this time next week, I will have enjoyed a nice, big meal with my loving family and all will be well with the world. Hopefully. All was mostly well with comics this week, with the likes of Batman, Iron Man, Thor and the X-Men!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Gwenpool Strikes Back because the issue finally embraces just how insane it can really get with this character.

Buncha Gwens 02

As much as I enjoy Gwenpool, I would like to see her go away

Meanwhile, Absolute Carnage came to a solid ending, though the issue is mostly all fight scene and probably would be better read via trades. It also ends with such an obvious cliffhanger that we probably should have all seen it coming. Ah well, still an OK  event all around, even if it doesn’t live up to my memories of Maximum Carnage.

Comic Reviews: Batman #83, Excalibur #2, Gwenpool Strikes Back #4, King Thor #3, Marauders #2 and Tony Stark – Iron Man #18.

The Expanse is Expanding!

I am finally fully caught up on The Expanse and it’s a great show! Are you watching? I highly recommend taking a look at this really nifty sci-fi series. It’s got strong characters, great special effects and a really cool, really big story.

Of course, if you’re not caught up, you probably don’t want to watch this trailer for season 4.

Looks exciting! I’ve been catching up on a lot of Amazon shows recently, so I’m excited for more Expanse. I also just finished the fourth and final season of The Man in the High Castle. That was amazing. Another highly recommended show!

Every New Spider-Woman Beginning is Some Other Spider-Woman’s End

There’s going to be a new Spider-Woman comic coming out! That’s good! She’s going to revert to her old costume. That’s bad. It’s going to be written by Karla Pacheco and drawn by Pere Perez! That’s good! There’s no word in the initial announcement on Newsarama about her relationship with Roger. That’s bad.

Can I go now?

Spider Woman Cover Pacheco

So yeah, new Spider-Woman comic coming next year by some talented people and I’m sure I’ll check it out. The problem is that the last Spider-Woman comic was one of my favorite comics of the decade! So much so that Marvel used one of my reviews on the cover!

Once of the reasons I loved Dennis Hopeless’ Spider-Woman comic so much was the quality development of the relationship between Jessica Drew and Roger Gocking, the formerly villainous Procupine. This was one of the best-written comic book romances I’ve ever read.

Since the end of the series, I’ve been following the Spider-Woman character wherever I can to see if Marvel is going to keep the relationship going. I’m quite invested, you see. There’s no word on the relationship in the new comic announcement…so I’m just going to start worrying now.

But all good things must come to an end.

6 Obscure Mutants I Want to See on Krakoa

The Dawn of X is here! All living and dead X-Men and X-Villains have been brought to the new mutant paradise of Krakoa! It’s a big launch party of a country with a whole host of new comics exploring the new status quo, with tons of group shots of a bunch of mutants. Obviously stalwarts like Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey and Kate Pryde are all over these comics, but what about the obscure and random mutants who have appeared over the years?

XMen Party 01

We all have our favorite mutants and X-Men. And we all have our obscure and random favorite mutants who were sprinkled throughout decades worth of X-comics. My own personal favorite mutants, like Multiple Man, Mimic and Strong Guy, have yet to appear on Krakoa in Dawn of X. But making a list out of my favorite mutants isn’t anything new for this blog. So how about a list of my favorite random, obscure, single-appearance mutants from the furthest corners of the longboxes?

Join me after the jump for six mutants who, I promise, existed at one point or another for a fleeting moment, and whom I’d like to see basking in the new mutant paradise!
