Batman Has a New Costume; I Don’t Like It

The Batman has started filming. The movie with Robert Pattinson in the lead role and a whole bunch of villains is going to happen. I’m all for it! I like a good Batman movie. And director Matt Reeves gave us our first look at the new Batsuit last night.

I don’t care for it.

It looks almost exactly like every other modern Batman costume. It’s all hard, thick armor and normal human eyes. I’m not saying I need him to be wearing spandex or anything, but maybe a happy middle ground? Maybe something new and creative?

Ah well, life is what it is.

No word on Robin as of yet…

The Most Wes Anderson Movie Trailer of All Time

The fear is that, some day, Wes Anderson will make a movie that is so suffused with Wes Anderson tics that the movie will collapse in on itself. The trailer for his latest film, The French Dispatch, comes dangerous close to that event horizon.

I love it anyway!

I am a huge Wes Anderson fan and I couldn’t be more excited for The French Dispatch. It’s about journalists, of which I am one, and it’s starring as all-star a cast as Wes Anderson has ever had at his disposal!

The trailer looks damn good and damn weird, which is exactly what I’m hoping for! The French Dispatch comes out on July 24.

6 Thoughts on Birds of Prey

Sadly, it seems that Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is not doing very well at the box office. Which is a damn shame, because I really enjoyed this movie! It’s a rock n’rolling good time of color, energy, bone-crunches and girl power!

Bird Prey Review List 01

Movie Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.

Birds of Prey is in a really weird place. DC has long since abandoned their dreams of a DC Cinematic Universe, but Margot Robbie was so good as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad that they’re not ready to give her up. So what do you do? You forge ahead with Birds of Prey and hope for the best! And for me, they did  a great job! Birds of Prey is a wildly entertaining film that makes great use of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. It also makes great use of the R-rating, delivering an action movie that specializes in being as hard-hitting as possible. It adds an extra level of fun to an already entertaining film.

Join me after the jump for my full set of thoughts and reviews of Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

Oh no, wait, Warner Bros. has since changed the name to just Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey in the hopes of having a better second weekend. So let’s go with that!

Kurt Busiek is Just Gonna Go Hog Wild with The Marvels!

Kurt Busiek is probably one of the best comic book writers and world-builders of all time. He’s the mastermind behind Astro City, a masterpiece of superhero comic storytelling that I highly recommend. Now he’s coming back to Marvel comics to do a big “anyone, anywhere, any time” adventure that spans decades!

Behold The Marvels!

Just look at Alex Ross being all fancy!

Specific details on the story are scarce, but Busiek had a lot to say in an interview at Marvel.com. He’s going to use big heroes and obscure heroes, he’s going to tell big stories and small stories. He’s going to look at these characters as people and he’s going to span from the past to the far future.

He’s just going to go big and have fun, and I love that idea!

How about some preview art?

Busiek is also responsible for Marvels back in 1994, another masterpiece of comic book storytelling that focused on the classic Marvel heroes. Honestly, the guy is a legend, and letting him play in the entire Marvel toybox for whatever insane story he has in mind sounds glorious to me!

The Marvels comes out in May, with art by Yildiray Cinar.

Sad News: DBZ Abridged is Over

Sad news, everybody! The amazing YouTube show Dragonball Z Abridged is over. The creators have decided to call it quits after more than a decade of possibly the greatest parody/homage show of all time.

Seriously. Dragonball Z Abridged is better than Dragonball Z.

I’ve been a fan of the fan-made show for almost all of these 10 years, and it’s sad to see it come to an end. But honestly, the end has come righteously. You can really feel the sadness in the two guys as they explain what happened. They created a masterpiece to be proud of, and to take it this far, that’s a real achievement. So my hat will always be off to them!

Here’s hoping the rest of the Team Four Star output is good! I enjoyed their Let’s Play of Fallout 4 a couple years ago! So at least there’s that.

Also, be sure to binge watch the entirety of DBZA whenever you want!
