Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/28/23
We’re back with another solid week of new comics, as we are every week. Was this the best week of new comics ever? No, sadly not. Was it the worst week? Nah. Just a pretty average week. Though this week did see the return of Saga!
Comic Book of the Week goes to X-Terminators #5 for a very enjoyable wrap-up to this excellent series! This is the sort of X-Men ongoing I could get behind.
Meanwhile, I’m probably going to skip Sins of Sinister. I’m just not into crossovers these days anymore. More my loss. I also finally beat Pokemon Violet! I really liked the open world aspect of the new game, but the whole thing wasn’t very fulfilling. Perhaps they’ll do better with the next one. Also, I started watching Lockwood & Co. like I mentioned yesterday, and I’m enjoying it so far!
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1051, Justice Society of America #2, Saga #61 and X-Terminators #5.

There’s a new TV show coming to Netflix today called Lockwood & Co. It’s created and showrun by Joe Cornish, the genius behind the Attack the Block movie, which I love. That is more than enough to get me to watch. But this trailer is also really good. It’s about some young ghost busters who use swords to fight the supernatural.
Apparently, this is based on a book series, so that’s neat. Yay books! But I’m really looking forward to this new show. I’ve been needing a new show to watch, and I think Lockwood & Co. will be it. You can all watch as well and let me know what you thought. Should be fun.

There’s a Lot Going on in Shazam: Fury of the Gods
I really enjoyed the first Shazam! movie. It was fun and charming, with a lot of good character and energy. So I’m pumped for the sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It looks to have the same charm, character and energy. And, apparently, there’s just a whole lot of everything in this movie.
Wow, that trailer is stuffed to the gills with stuff happening. We’ve got the two new villains, we’ve got the various family members depowered and split up. We’ve got the Wizard coming back. We’ve got Billy Batson making all sorts of decisions. I feel like the plot is pretty simple, but that trailer wants to show off everything. More power to them, I suppose!
Shazam! Fury of the Gods comes to theaters on March 17.

The Top 6 Most Memorable Elephant Superheroes in Comics
The time has come for another animal-themed superhero list! A recent issue of Nightwing alerted me to the existence of a character that I didn’t know existed, and that prompted me to check all of comics to find six of that example. What character? You’ll have to read the list to find out, but I think it’s safe to say they are elephant-related.
Comic book superheroes have always been closely connected to animals. Batman and Spider-Man are two of the most famous and popular superheroes in the world! And nobody cats an eye about their animal-theming. But when we look elsewhere in the animal kingdom, the pickings get a bit slimmer. Why did a bat and a spider get so big? Why are there no prominent lion superheroes? Or cats or dogs? I’ve also looked at bears, pigs, frogs and many more! There’s also sorts of neat animal comic book characters, and now we can add elephants to that list. Who doesn’t love an elephant?
Join me after the jump for the best and brightest elephant-themed superheroes in comics!

I very much enjoy the Harley Quinn cartoon. It’s funny, raunchy, silly and full of comic book goodness. It’s the best animated Batman-verse in years, if not decades. And while we wait for the fourth season, there’s going to be a one-off Valentine’s Day special next month. And it’s gonna be sexy!
Can’t wait to watch. And now you all know that it’s happening, so you can’t blame me if you miss it. Just keep your eyes peeled to HBO Max on Feb. 9.
