Marvel Just Won Everything With Amazing Movie Revelations!

Marvel just took DC to school today on how to court the press and the fans about their upcoming movies. Remember a few weeks ago, when we learned DC’s upcoming film slate? Everything from Wonder Woman to Justice League was leaked from a private shareholder’s meeting, and then DC hasn’t done anything since. No casting announcements. No official logos. Not a peep! We’re all just kind of stuck wondering if DC can actually pull it off.

But here comes Marvel with a big LA press conference, hyped for days, and filled to the brim with excited news media. As a fan, I am giddy! I’m excited! Marvel announced new movies for some less famous characters, but I am more confident in Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies than I am in Wonder Woman, Flash or Aquaman films. So take that, DC!

Make Mine Marvel!

There’s a lot of info and a lot of images. Marvel unveiled a metric ton of logs and film titles today.

So join me after the jump for a full rundown on all of the news and my reactions! And pretty please, share what you think in the comments! I hope you henchies are just as excited as I am!

OK, we’re going to do this chronologically because it’ll be easier!

We start things off with Captain America 3: Civil War, scheduled for May 6, 2016.

This was spoiled a bit a few weeks ago. Consider me among the people who loves the idea of Civil War in the Marvel Movieverse! I think it’s a great direction to take these characters and will make for a great film! Plus seeing more of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark is always a good thing. The Russo Brothers are still attached to direct, and considering what a great job they did with Winter Soldier, I would say I’m glad to see them.

Next up we have Doctor Strange, scheduled for Nov. 4, 2016.

The Benedict Cumberbatch rumors were not confirmed today, but I’m in no rush. All will be revealed in time. Marvel said Doctor Strange would introduce the supernatural corner of the Movieverse, which obviously it should do. Doctor Strange will be directed by Scott Derrickson.

Then we have Guardians of the Galaxy 2, scheduled for May 5, 2017.

Not much is known about the film so far, but considering how great the first one was in August, this sequel should be off the chain! Director James Gunn is returning, which is great news. I hope they keep the same team together and deliver another amazing movie. No word yet on the sub-title, but there will definitely be one – though personally, I like Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Following that is Thor 3: Ragnarok, scheduled for July 28, 2017.

Love the title! But then that’s the only title they could have used. I imagine Thor 3 is going to be bigger and badder than anything. And considering Thor: The Dark World was my favorite movie last year, I have no doubt that the threequel will be just as great! No word on director, but both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston will return as Thor and Loki. That’s huge news. Marvel should be trying to get Hiddleston into as much as possible.

Continuing on, we have Black Panther, scheduled for Nov. 3, 2017.

This is one of three brand new, unexpected films (though I think we all knew it was coming). I’m excited. And I’m thrilled that Marvel really is going to try to bring in new characters instead of relying solely on the well known guys like Cap and Iron Man. Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Captain Marvel would make for a really interesting team of Avengers, eh? The Black Panther movie will focus on T’Challa as a prince of Wakanda, which sounds good to me.

We also found out that Black Panther will be played by the relatively unknown Chadwick Boseman.

I didn’t know him at first, but a quick look at his IMDB page revealed that Boseman played Jackie Robinson in the movie 42. I watched the film, but I don’t really remember anything about it. I think Boseman did a fine job.

Marvel also announced that Black Panther will appear in Captain America: Civil War, and he’ll be in costume. That sounds like a total blast. In fact, how about some concept art?

Bloody gorgeous. I’m glad Marvel really went ahead and made a lot of Black Panther announcements today. DC didn’t bother to describe or embellish any of their upcoming movies, but Marvel cares.

Next is Avengers 3: Infinity War, Parts 1 and 2, scheduled for May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019.

What more is there to say? It’s going to be insane! Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy teaming up; it’s going to be so amazing! I hope all the new characters to get to show up. I also don’t mind that the movie is going to be split into two parts. Everybody’s doing that nowadays, and at least Marvel is only putting them one year apart – with some other films scheduled for the between time.

I wonder if that means Infinity War parts 1 and 2 won’t be linear, but instead will incorporate the movies in between, such as…

Let’s hear it for Captain Marvel, scheduled for July 6, 2018!

This is going to be another stellar film! We’d been hearing hints for a long time now that this movie was coming, and I’m so excited that Marvel went ahead and made the announcement. They also confirmed the film with star Carol Danvers, who is rumored to have a cameo in Avengers: Age of Ultron. That would be neat. I really wonder if she’ll show up early in time to appear in Infinity War Part 1.

Sadly, no casting or concept art for her yet, but I have to imagine it exists. Personally, I’d be totally cool with Katee Sackhoff as Carol, but then I’m a big Sackhoff fan. Let’s hope the Captain Marvel comic book series can last until 2018!

Lastly we have Inhumans, scheduled for Nov. 2, 2018.

I’m lukewarm about this whole thing, but I’m sure by 2018 my faith in Marvel will be even great than it is now! I’ll also be 35 and will hopefully be married with kids and a great new job, perhaps even writing comics for Marvel. That’s my five-year-plan and I’m sticking with it!

Rumor has it that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is working towards introducing the Inhumans as a concept, which would be really cool.

Finally, that’s it! That was a long damn list of movies! I’m kind of exhausted just typing it all out! But suffice to say, I love all of it! I love every movie announced. I love all the casting and crossover news. I love the tidbits I didn’t even get to mention. It’s all just so amazing. Screw DC and their plans. Marvel has the next 4-5 years all tied up!

Though I am curious why they didn’t announce any Black Widow or Hulk solo films. And I suppose we don’t yet know if Ant-Man will deserve a sequel. But none of that matters. All that matters are the movies, and they look gorgeous!

  1. This is really awesome. Obviously I’m looking most forward to Black Panther, been waiting for him since iron man 1. And surprisingly, Ragnarok, I think it will be the movie that really makes Thor into a GOD!! And not just a superhero.

But honestly, I’m way more excited for DC. I think it’s because I not only prefer DC comics, but also because I already have faith that Marvel will make great movies, and I know what to expect. But anything could happen with DC. Plus, most of the Marvel movies are sequels, whereas DC are making new movies for characters we have never seen on the big screen. And its going to be really exciting to see them all meet for the first time

    • Say it ain’t so, Joe! Marvel killed it today! ‘Anything could happen with DC’ definitely means they could bomb!

      • Oh Marvel definetly did it better no question, but that’s one of the reasons I’m so excited, I know Marvel is going to blow me away. But DC could go anywhere. Its interesting, if DC does do well, I can’t wait for all the future battles.

      • I do believe one of these upcoming years is going to see an Avengers/Justice League face-off.

  2. Captain MArvel! WOOT! this has got me the most excited honestly. I cant wait. Now if Spidey does join in avengers 3 like Sony and Disney might be planning that could show them onscreen and hopefully have Spider-Marvel cross into the comics. ALso Katee Sachoff for Carol Danvers!

  3. I’m glad they’re finally going to do movies with female and minority leads. It took them long enough – 10 and 9 years, respectively. I’m also glad that it’ll be CAPTAIN Marvel, not Ms. Giving her the Captain title puts her square on a level with Captain America.
