Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/10/19
Interesting week of comics this week! Both Agents of Atlas and Future Foundation get their first issues this week, so Marvel is kicking off two new team books. But we’ve also got ongoing comics from Batman, Green Lantern and more! House of X shakes things up yet again and nothing will ever be the same!
Comic Book of the Week goes to Lois Lane #2. House of X is good, don’t get me wrong, but Lois Lane is damn good.
Meanwhile, I tried out the first issue of Absolute Carnage, despite not reading any of Donny Cates’ previous Venom and/or Carnage stories. The first issue is really great. It establishes the story well and delivers some quality Spider-Man and Venom entertainment, keeping the story grounded and realistic. Cates writes a really good Spider-Man!
I’ll probably keep reading this main series, but I’m probably only going to review the Scream mini-series, because I remain wholly dedicated to Scream for some reason. She’s my favorite symbiote and I’m happy to see her in action again.
Comic Reviews: Agents of Atlas #1, Batman #76, Black Cat #3, Future Foundation #1, Green Lantern #10, House of X #2 and Lois Lane #2.

Happy Fourth of July Weekend, henchies! I spent my Fourth watching a Stranger Things season 3 marathon inside my air-conditioned apartment, and it was great! Then I went and saw Spider-Man: Far From Home for a second time last night. Good week for me!
In terms of comics, we’ve got some interesting new titles in Aero from Marvel and Lois Lane from DC, one far better than the other. Perhaps Marvel should have hired Greg Rucka to introduce Aero? Either way, Comic Book of the Week goes to Unbeatable Squirrel Girl for a truly excellent finish to their War of the Realms crossover!

In this week’s comics, an Asgardian squirrel goddess tries to talk to whales, and Lois Lane attends a press briefing at the White House
Meanwhile, did you hear that The Walking Dead comic came to a surprise ending this week?! How gnarly was that? I don’t read issue-to-issue, choosing instead to just borrow my friend’s compendiums. But I still applaud the sheer gaul of a surprise ending out of nowhere like that, even if it probably screwed over some retailers…
Comic Reviews: Aero #1, The Green Lantern #9, Lois Lane #1 and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #46.

Avengers: Endgame was great! I’m not even going to beat around the bush. It was great, it was fantastic, it was everything I could have wanted. It’s the real deal, a true grand finale. Go watch it!
Comics this week almost pale in comparison. Action Comics and Runaways are pretty fun, while Fantastic Four and Heroes in Crisis disappoint. And Comic Book of the Week goes to Mr & Mrs X!
Meanwhile, X-Tremists is still the only comic I’m reading from Age of X-Man and it remains pretty darn good. At least when it comes to character development for the Blob, and now Psylocke, too! Honestly, I will consider Age of X-Man a win as a whole if this leads to a Blob renaissance.
Comic Reviews: Action Comics #1010, Fantastic Four #9, Heroes in Crisis #8, Mr. & Mrs. X #10 and Runaways #20.
Monday Morning Funny!
Want to see genius? Check out this mash-up of J. Jonah Jameson and the terrible reporters at The Daily Planet in the DC Cinematic Universe.
Hilarious! Take it from a newspaper man like me, the newsroom at the movie Daily Planet is weird. The editor doesn’t just wander into the office one day and tell one of his news reporters that they’re suddenly covering sports. That’s madness. There should be an entire sports division of the newsroom full of reporters who cover sports. It’s not something that editors get to just mix and match.
All praise to DrMachakil for the video!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 8/13/16
Hooray for Comic-Con! When you read this review list, I’ll already be on my way to Boston Comic-Con to promote my own self-published comic, Gamer Girl & Vixen! We have issues to hand out and hands to shake, so it should be a great trip! And a great culmination of my week’s vacation. I’ll see some good friends, hopefully make some new fans, and basically have a good, enjoyable time. That’s what vacation is all about.
Though vacation may have also made me a little lazy. I read a couple comics this week, but none of them really wowed me. I don’t know if the comics just weren’t very good this week, or if I’m in some kind of special lazy zone. But even the likes of the Lumberjanes, Gotham Academy, Amazing Spider-Man, Wonder Woman and the all new All-Star Batman didn’t get me very excited. Fortunately, this week saw the debut of Superwoman, and it’s really good!
Though it was also nice to see Tim Drake kicking butt again in Detective Comics! DC is really hitting it out of the park lately.
Comic Reviews: All-Star Batman #1, Amazing Spider-man #16, Detective Comics #938, Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy #3, Superwoman #1 and Wonder Woman #4.
