Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/19/16

Oof. What a crummy week for comics. I don’t know if it’s just me, but this whole week was kind of a dud. And I even read some of my favorite comics! Squirrel Girl! Hellcat! Wolverine! I don’t know what happened, but everything just felt kind of…flat. They were all still pretty good, but there just seemed to be something missing. Some magic…

As such, I’m not even sure which comic to award Comic Book of the Week. I kind of want to just not give it to anybody. But I’m not ready to set that precedent, so I’m gonna give it to Infamous Iron Man #2 because it has the most potential.

I'm still not buying why he modeled himself after Iron Man

It’s a good look for him

My actual reviews are going to be kind of light this week, because after reading a bunch of comics, I just didn’t feel like reviewing them. Plus sometimes I skip over storylines, like I’m currently doing with Patsy Walker and All-New Wolverine. Both are fine, but eh…also, the fill-in artist they got for All-New Wolverine was just bad. Like, make you question what Marvel was thinking bad.

Still, we got a handful of comics to check out this week.

Comic Reviews: Infamous Iron Man #2, Jessica Jones #2, Nightwing #9, Thanos #1, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #14.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/8/16

Greetings from New York Comic-Con! I was in the Big Apple this weekend attending the big shindig and promoting Gamer Girl & Vixen, but that didn’t stop me from checking out this week’s stack of new comics. It also didn’t stop me from totally geeking out at all the great stuff on display at NYCC! If you’ve never been, you gotta go! There’s nothing else like a big comic convention these days! Hopefully I didn’t spend too much money…

I didn’t spend much on this week’s comics. Since I started traveling on Thursday, I knew I wouldn’t have much time to read and review a lot, so I’ve only got a couple of reviews this week! I checked out the #1 issues of Jessica Jones and Champions, and both were fine. But Harley Quinn #5 wins a truly outrageous Comic Book of the Week for an issue that’s pure gold.

I could never pull this off

I could never pull this off

I also considered reviewing Death of X #1 and Death of Hawkman #1 as if to create some kind of theme, but Death of X mostly left me bummed out, and I really really don’t care about Hawkman.

Comic Reviews: Champions #1, Harley Quinn #5 and Jessica Jones #1.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/23/16

Welcome to another thrilling installment of Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews! We’ve got a plate of wonderful comics today, including some of my current favorites, like Astonishing Ant-Man. Some of my review columns have been a little light over the past month, and if you’ve been wondering why, it’s because I’m nearing the end of a Kickstarter campaign for my own comic, Gamer Girl & Vixen!

This week is the final week of the campaign. We’re so close to hitting our goal that I can taste it! But the nerves have kind of dulled me to every other awesome thing in the world right now. So if you’d like to order a copy of my own comic, head on over and pick one up. Every little bit counts at this point!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Power Man and Iron Fist #3, which continues to be a wonderfully entertaining comic. Hopefully my own comic book work can be this good someday.

Not every problem can be solved with mystical kung fu

Comic Reviews: Astonishing Ant-Man #7, Captain Marvel #4, Power Man and Iron Fist #3, and Totally Awesome Hulk #5.

Punisher and More Jessica Jones Coming to Netflix

This wonderful news arrived over the weekend, and while that makes my announcement rather late, I still wanted to make note: Netflix and Marvel have announced that Jessica Jones will return for a second season, and they’re also working on a new Punisher show following actor Jon Bernthal’s reportedly amazing work with the character. Bernthal will appear as the Punisher in Daredevil‘s upcoming second season, which will arrive on March 18.

There better be a skull on that shirt

This is great news all around. Not only were Marvel and Netflix confident enough in Jessica Jones, but they’re so thrilled about Bernthal’s Punisher that they’re already talking spin-off. I’m excited to see the performance. A Punisher Netflix show is a no-brainer.

Plus Jessica Jones was damn good television, so I’m glad to see her coming back.

Also, for those interested, work is still underway for the Iron Fist show. I’ll have that casting announcement whenever it arrives.

6 Thoughts on the First Season of Jessica Jones

Looks like this Marvel/Netflix deal is turning out to be one of the most creatively satisfying projects either company has ever done. After Daredevil was a huge hit this past summer, Jessica Jones has roared onto our screens to deliver another phenomenal superhero show. Gripping, invasive, spooky and downright charming (for both good and ill), Jessica Jones was worthy of a binge watch this past weekend, and it lived up to all the hype.

Season Rating: 9/10 – Great

Rather than write any kind of official review, I’d just like to jam a little on the awesomeness of Jessica Jones (and a few minor flaws). I loved the show from beginning to end and will gladly go back and rewatch someday. I can’t wait for her to team up with other heroes on the Defenders, and I already kind of want Jessica to start knocking around Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.

So join me after the jump for my wrap-up on Jessica Jones! And watch out for MASSIVE SPOILERS for the entire show!
