Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/26/16
So what did everybody think of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice? Is the DC Cinematic Universe off to a good start? I will be seeing the movie tonight, and my review will go up early next week. I’m a little worried, since I didn’t care for Man of Steel. But I’m going to keep an open mind.
Fortunately, comics were a blast this week! We’ve got new Patsy Walker, which is always a cause for celebration. As would be the new issue of Grayson, but unfortunately, something has gone horribly wrong! Read on to find out what.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #50, the big climax of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s time on the title! The energy and excitement of this issue easily cast aside my various minor hang-ups with Snyder’s Batman. This is a solid, exciting issue.
Speaking of solid, exciting issues, my new Kickstarter is only one week away! Next Saturday we will launch the next fundraising campaign for Gamer Girl & Vixen! I hope I can count on you henchies to lend your support and order my comic!
And if you haven’t had a chance yet, you can read the entire first issue for free! You’re welcome to take my word for it that it’s good, but you can also see for yourself.
Comic Reviews: Batman #50, Grayson #18, Harley Quinn #26, Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #4, Totally Awesome Hulk #4 and We Are Robin #10.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 2/20/16
What a phenomenal week for comics! I’m not just talking about DC’s new Rebirth announcement, which looks fine. I’m talking about the specific comics I read this week, almost all of which were good to great! If you told me 5 years ago that I would love comics about Thor, Harley Quinn and Luke Cage, I would have told you you were silly! But here we are!
Comic Book of the Week goes to the first issue of Power Man and Iron Fist. This was a rock solid start for the revived series, one that will hopefully help define the characters ahead of their upcoming TV shows. Honestly, after only one issue, I would watch this show.
It’s even got Jessica Jones in a supporting role! Though considering her Netflix success, where’s our new Jessica Jones comic?
Comic Reviews: Harley Quinn #25, Mighty Thor #4, Power Man and Iron First #1, Silver Surfer #2 and Spider-Woman #4.
New Suicide Squad Trailer is Off the Chain!
Do kids still say ‘off the chain’ these days? Surely they do. If not, I’m bringing it back for the new Suicide Squad trailer!
This thing is off the hook! (People definitely still say that!). It’s wacky, hilarious, and makes great use of Bohemian Rhapsody, a song we all know and love. Obviously, there are not just flashes of Guardians of the Galaxy in this trailer, but possibly of Deadpool too. Those are two very good influencers.
As henchie Javier pointed out to me, it’s actually kind of exciting to see someone at DC having fun! Compare that to the dark and gloomy Wonder Woman footage that’s making the rounds online, and which I’ll get around to sharing soon.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/19/15
Happy Star Wars Weekend, everybody! Have you seen the movie yet? Maybe twice? I got my full review up last night, and while I wasn’t as excited as I expected, it was still an entertaining movie. I probably should have read some Star Wars comics this week, but I was too busy celebrating some of my favorites! Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Ms. Marvel and more dropped this week, making it an excellent week for comics and geekery in general, honestly.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Mighty Thor #2. Everything I read this week was good, but Mighty Thor is something special.
Speaking of comics, check out the Facebook page for my own comic, Gamer Girl & Vixen! We’re on the verge of passing 200 likes, and if you’re interested, you might enjoy it!
Comic Reviews: Batgirl #46, Harley Quinn #23, Mighty Thor #2, Ms. Marvel #2, Silk #2 and We Are Robin #7.
Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 10/17/15
Another week, another new batch of All-New, All-Different Marvel comics! I’d love to read and review every single one, but I’m a busy man, especially this week. Did you hear about that murder at the church in upstate New York? That’s right in my backyard, and as the local newspaper reporter, I’m all over that stuff!
Fortunately, I still found time to read some new comics! And it was another good week! I scoped out the first issues of Chewbacca and New Avengers, and enjoyed a few of my favorites from DC Comics, like Starfire and Harley Quinn. But the clear standout and winner of Comic Book of the Week is Ms. Marvel #19.
Was there really any doubt?
I can’t wait for this series to come back from hiatus!
Comic Reviews: Batman #45, Batman and Robin Eternal #2, Chewbacca #1, Harley Quinn #21, Ms. Marvel #19, New Avengers #1 and Starfire #5.
