Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/10/22

I was pretty busy this week with day job stuff, but I managed to get some comics read and get this review list together. Is it my best ever? No. Whatever is? We’ve got new Batman, new Fantastic Four and even new Jessica Jones.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #7 for an all-around really good issue of character building. Though to be honest, this week was a real toss up.

It’s OK, Cap, you’ll be OK

Meanwhile, I had a pretty sad realization about comics. This week saw the release of, like, half a dozen different ongoing X-Men comics…but I’m not reading any of them. Judgement Day tuned me out of the titles I was reading, and I don’t know if I have the time, energy or inclination to get back on board. I still enjoy the idea of the Krakoa Era, just don’t really care about most of the individual comics. Oh well.

Comic Reviews: Batman #130, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #7, Fantastic Four #2 and The Variants #5.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/12/22

And so we come to it at last. This day, unlike any other. In which I post some comic reviews on Saturday. But not just any Saturday. This Saturday. And we’ve got some Batman and some Captain America and probably something else.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Fantastic Four #1, kicking off Ryan North’s next big Marvel comic series! After Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, I’m excited to see what else he’s got in store for us.

Off to a good start

Meanwhile, I very much enjoyed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I think I liked it more than the first, especially because of Namor and everything he brought to the table. Quality movie all around, and I’ll have my review up on Wednesday! I’ve also started watching Andor, at long last. It’s going well so far.

Comic Reviews: Batman Incorporated #2, Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #6, Fantastic Four #1 and Legion of X #7.

Hot Diggity Dog, Ryan North is Writing Fantastic Four!

It’s a good day in comic book news, friends! Ryan North, the extremely funny and talented writer of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, will be taking over the main Fantastic Four comic in November. This is super cool! I am a huge fan of North’s writing, and I’m super excited to see him take on a headline superhero team. Art will be by Iban Coello.

Loving this bold, garish design as well

Skipping out on the bulk of Dan Slott’s Fantastic Four series has been a real regret. I loved it at the beginning and had no real reason to drop it, but I did, because I’m a fool.

You best believe I’ll be jumping in full steam ahead when Ryan North takes over with a new Fantastic Four #1 in a couple of months. According to this interview with Marvel.com, North is planning to tell some down-to-Earth stories of the team after Slott went big. That also sounds great!

Here’s what the man himself said:

“I want to do these smaller, self-contained stories in the vein of ’60s Star Trek, where they go down to a planet, find a weird thing, fix the weird thing, and move on. Having these four weirdos roll into town where there’s a mystery or a problem or some sci-fi thing, solve the problem, and then move on struck me as a very interesting way to position the Fantastic Four and tell stories that would feel fresh and not like a retread of what we’ve seen before.”

That sounds phenomenal! Everything about this series has me excited, nothing more so than getting to read another Ryan North comic at Marvel. Let’s go!

6 Thoughts on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Review)

Who could have imagined that Doctor Strange would eventually be the elder statesman of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? His first film was really good, but hardly star-making material. But then he’s been a major player in Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home. So here comes his official sequel, ready to make big bank as another Marvel hit!

Movie Rating: 9/10 – Great.

I really enjoyed this film, especially by the end. I’ll admit to being a bit hazy in the first half. But the madness and the creativity of the second half really won me over and I had a great time overall. Granted, I’m a sucker for all these Marvel projects. I fully admit that and have no shame in it. It’ll be a cold day in the world when I dislike a Marvel movie or TV show. Thankfully, that day has not yet arrived!

Join me after the jump for my full thoughts on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Expect FULL SPOILERS for the movie! And feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below!

Top 6 New Things I’m Excited About from Disney’s Investor Summit

Last Thursday night was a crazy night! Disney held their annual investor summit and, since there were no comic-cons this year, they basically announced EVERYTHING they had coming up for Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel. As everyone here well knows, I love all of those things! So last Thursday was like Christmas come early.

The man, the myth, the legend

I didn’t have the time or energy to write individual blog posts for every single awesome thing to come out of the summit. I shared a bunch of the trailers, which are the best part! Now this list is about some of the other bits and pieces I enjoyed! A ton of new content was announced and I want to share my favorite bits. We already knew about a lot of things, like Tatiana Maslany cast as She-Hulk and the Ms. Marvel show. We also knew the Fantastic Four movie was coming. So this list is about new things we learned at the summit, the things I am, personally, most excited about! Big and small!

So join me after the jump for some truly great upcoming geekery!
