Hench-Sized Comic Reviews – 9/27/25
Comic reviews might have to take a back seat to life coming up next month. I’ve got a big project at work that is going to keep me busy around the clock! But we’ll see what I can get done. Until then, we’ve got a big, fun pile of comics this week, including Wonder Woman and X-Men!
Comic of the Week goes to Absolute Wonder Woman #12 for an absolutely perfect issue of this series. Kelly Thompson and her creative team are making this look easy.
Meanwhile, I watched the finale for Alien Earth this week and am mostly just whelmed. I’ve never been a big Alien franchise guy, but I liked the show well enough. Nothing special. I did really enjoy Haunted Hotel on Netflix, a new cartoon with 10 easy breezy episodes to get through if you’re into that sort of thing. And then my progress in Silksong has stalled because I can’t get past a couple of very early mini-bosses. I’m trying my best, gosh darnit! Fortunately, reviews for Ghost of Yokei are positively glowing, so perhaps I’ll grab that next week.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Wonder Woman #12, Black Cat #2, Void Rivals #23, Wonder Woman #25 and X-Men #22.

Happy Birthday to me! Enough years have passed that my birthday once again falls on a Saturday, so I get to share some comic reviews for my birthday! And what a darn good week for comics, like Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman! Honestly, I’ve been reading way more DC books than Marvel these days…
Comic Book of the Week goes to Batman #1 because it’s a very strong start for the Matt Fraction run of the Caped Crusader.
Meanwhile, not doing anything special for my birthday because that’s what happens when you’re in your 40s. I bought myself a new computer, and that’s running nicely. And I splurged on some graphic novels and action figures. So feeling pretty good. And I’ll be sharing some comic book news soon enough!
Comic Reviews: Absolute Superman #11, Absolute Wonder Woman #11, Amazing Spider-Man #11, Batman #1 and Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League #2.

It’s the week of weeks! Not only did Fantastic Four: First Steps just come out, but we’re also smack dab in the middle of San Diego Comic Con! So much news coming out. So many trailers. And we had a nice week of comics as well, like Absolute Wonder Woman and Superman.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Void Rivals #21 for an excellent, action-packed issue that uses all of its characters very well.
Meanwhile, I loved the new Fantastic Four movie and hope to have my review up on time next week. Greatness all around! And then I continue to plug again at Death Stranding 2. I’m taking my darn time and stretching out the game as far as I can, because there’s nothing else on the horizon. I also started watching Smiling Friends, which was nice, and the new episode of South Park was perfection. So good week all around for pop culture.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Martin Manhunter #5, Absolute Wonder Woman #10, Superman #28 and Void Rivals #21.

Sometimes a week will come along where all the comics I read are in the middle of stories and just put out issues where the story is moved along. Nothing wrong with that. Especially when the ongoing stories are as good as they are in the likes of Absolute Wonder Woman and/or Void Rivals.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Martin Manhunter #4 because, while it continues to tell an entertaining story, the artwork this issue goes even harder than it’s been going so far!
Meanwhile, I watched and enjoyed the first three episodes of Ironheart. Off to a good start. I’ve also really gotten into Taskmaster lately. It’s all free on YouTube, which is convenient. And last night I finally started playing Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Great game so far!
Also, all three new Gamer Girl & Vixen mini-comics have been added to Global Comix for you to read and enjoy for free! Just click the link and scroll down for the three new comics, with scripts written by me! It’s only fair I put my own comic work out there if I’m gonna review others!
Comic Reviews: Absolute Martian Manhunter #4, Absolute Wonder Woman #9, Ultimate Spider-Man #18, Void Rivals #20 and VR Troopers #1.

I had another busy week this week, but found time to sit and read a bunch of comics. I also found the time to catch up on some of my favorite current comics, so that was nice. And like we’ve seen a lot recently, it’s a bunch of bangers, like Superman and Ultimate Spider-Man.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Martian Manhunter because I am now on board for the weirdness, especially now that the story is developing.
Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy and take my time with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. If you’re on the fence about this one, I can promise you that it’s definitely like a classic Final Fantasy game, like the glory days of 7, 8, 9 and 10. So it’s good. I also just finished the TV Show The Studio this week with Seth Rogen on AppleTV+ and it was good! Definitely lives up to the hype it has received.
Also, it is with a heavy heart I announce the end of my half-hearted, blog-based campaign to get a comic book company to hire me to write a Street Sharks comic. Bleeding Cool says IDW has one in the works already. I truly put it no effort, but it woulda been neat. In the end, it’s my own fault for not becoming a successful enough comic book writer to make my mark in the age of 80s/90s cartoon adaptations.
Comic Reviews: Absolute Martian Manhunter #3, Absolute Wonder Woman #8, Batman #160, Superman #26 and Ultimate Spider-Man #17.
