I Am Fully on Board With An Insane Street Fighter Movie

Late last week were The Game Awards, which I don’t watch, but they had a lot of trailers for upcoming video games and video game-related things. I should probably share some of those trailers, and I might, because I like video games. But more importantly, we got a solid teaser trailer for the upcoming Street Fighter movie…and it’s a hoot!

I am fully in favor of going full cartoon with a new Street Fighter movie. I’m very eager to see what they do with it. A cheesy Street Fighter was a flop in the 90s. A more serious attempt was a flop, when they focused on Chun-Li that one time. Why not have some fun with it? Why not go with totally accurate costumes and powers and smashing cars and fighting? Mortal Kombat tried to be serious and make stuff up and not even get to the tournament. The Twisted Metal TV show is going all-in on the zaniness and it was one of the best shows of the year!

The Street Fighter movie comes to theaters on…oh wow, Oct. 16. That’s a long ways away. And yet still before Grand Theft Auto VI…alas.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 12/13/25

You guys. This week. Apparently when I got new landlords, they may or may not have cancelled the driveway snowplow contract? Found that out the hard way. Ugh. Anyway, coupla fun comics this week.

Comic Book of the Week goes to Absolute Batman #15 for a very excellent and proper introduction to the Absolute Joker.

It’s also partly a jungle adventure story

Meanwhile, I’m about halfway through an anime my brother recommended, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. I don’t watch much anime, but have seen some from time to time. Pretty good so far. And then I’m still playing through Astrobot, because I’m in no rush when it comes to video games. I’m also finally reading Sex Criminals by Fraction and Zdarsky after I got the omnibus for Christmas last year. It’s also pretty good so far.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Batman #15 and Amazing Spider-Man #17.

We Have a Supergirl Trailer!

The first trailer for the Supergirl movie came out today and it looks pretty excellent! I had to watch it on my phone since I’m at work, but I think I got the jist. Great song choice. Great character introduction. Really sets her apart from Superman.

The movie will be based on the Woman of Tomorrow mini-series by Tom King, which is phenomenal! There are some references to the comic in the trailer, like the inclusion of Krypto and Ruthye, but the trailer is a very different vibe from the tone of the comic. I trust DC to pull this off expertly. And I hope we get a lot of the pathos from the comic in the movie. It’s a good one.

Supergirl comes to theaters on June 26.

Superman and Spider-Man Are Gonna Team Up, Too!

Remember the Batman and Deadpool crossover comics this past autumn? They were great! And as many people surmised, they were only the beginning! Superman and Spider-Man were suspiciously missing from the various crossover stories, and that’s because Marvel and DC are giving those fancy heroes their own crossover issues next March and April. We got our first look at the first issue this week.

There are a whole bunch more covers to look at if you’d like! I’m not a cover collector.

The main story will be written by Mark Waid, with artwork by Jorge Jimenez. Then there will be a bunch more smaller crossovers in this first issue.

  • Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson by Tom King and Jim Lee.
  • Jimmy Olsen and Carnage by Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber.
  • Power Girl and Punisher by Gail Simone and Belen Ortega.
  • Pa Kent and Uncle Ben by Jeff Lemire and Rafa Sandoval.
  • Spider-Man 2099 and the Legion of Super-heroes by Sean Murphy.
  • Superboy Prime and Black Suit Spider-Man by Christopher Priest and Daniel Sampere.
  • The Daily Planet and The Daily Bugle by Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott.

Hot damn those sound awesome! As a newspaper man myself, I love the idea of Greg Rucka writing a short story about the journalistic backgrounds of both Clark Kent and Peter Parker. That should be fun! And I’m very confident that Fraction and Lieber can pull off a really crazy crossover between Carnage and Jimmy Olsen.

So yeah! Loved the first two crossover issues, can’t wait to see more. And I really do hope all of this leads to a new Amalgam event in the very near future!

One Last Season of The Boys!

Next year will see the fifth and final season of The Boys, which has been an excellent show. I was a fan of the comic, I’m a fan of the show, and I’ve even enjoyed that Gen V spin-off. Good times all around, I say. And we’ve got out first trailer for the final season.

Looks good to me! All the stakes are there. Our heroes are lined up to be heroes. Our villains are gonna be villains to the end. I fully trust the showrunners to bring us home and deliver a great final season. I’m quite confident it won’t be anything like the final story arc on the comic, and that’s fine. I don’t need a faithful adaptation. The show has earned the right to be its own thing.

The final season of The Boys comes to Amazon Prime on April 8.
