6 LGBTQ Superheroes Who Can (And Should) Star in Their Own Movie
The Black Panther movie in February will mark the first major superhero release starring a black superhero. And Wonder Woman this past Spring was the first major superhero release starring a female superhero. Both of these are and were late in coming for minority representation, considering the current superhero boom is nearly 20-years-old at this point. But progress is being made, and that’s going to have to be good enough.
I am eagerly looking forward to the first major superhero release with an LGBTQ hero in the lead role. But the problem is…which superhero is that even going to be?
There simply aren’t that many prominent LGBTQ superheroes at either Marvel or DC. And those that are prominent are in no condition to have a feature film made about them as a solo superhero. Feel free to disagree with me, but as awesome as Batwoman is, there’s no way a Warner Bros. studio executive is going to make a Batwoman movie when they could just make another Batman movie. Same goes for the likes of Catman. And while Catwoman is bisexual in the comics, she’s about as bi as Wonder Woman. And two of Marvel’s most prominent gay characters — Iceman and Northstar — are second and third-string X-Men, respectively. So not only are they not going to get solo films, but straight Iceman already had a good run with the X-Men franchise, and Northstar is too much like movie Quicksilver to get any sort of starring role.
A lot of existing LGBTQ characters work great for comics, but the current Marvel and DC movie franchise landscapes don’t really have room for them, I’m afraid. DC can’t really make a Midnighter and Apollo movie because they’re clearly just knock-offs of Batman and Superman, and that’s already a lot to throw at movie audiences.
But all hope is not lost! Looking over all the LGBTQ superheroes and villains out there, I think I’ve found six who could actually support a solo superhero film in today’s Hollywood, considering all of the conditions in place! There’s Gonna Be More Jessica Jones!
Jessica Jones probably stands as the best — so far — of all the Marvel Netflix shows. That’s pretty cool! It’s a great show, a great character, with a great actor at the head. So enjoy this teaser for the second season!
One hopes we get a bigger, better trailer soon. And here’s hoping that they don’t blow this new season like they’ve kind of been doing for all the other Netflix shows. I want it to be really good! Can’t we have really great Marvel Netflix TV?!

I Missed the Jurassic World 2 Trailer Last Week
While I was away on vacation, I missed the first trailer for Jurassic World 2, which is gonna be called Fallen Kingdom. I am hugely disappointed that it’s not going to be called The Lost Park: Jurassic World. We just can’t have nice things.
It’s still weird to think that the first Jurassic World is the fourth highest grossing movie of all time. How did it make that much money?! Are people really that enamored with Jurassic Park as a franchise? I mean, dinosaurs are awesome, but really?
This trailer looks OK. Just OK. Everybody running alongside CGI dinosaurs from a volcano? Sure, why not. And I think I agree with everybody else on the Internet that Jeff Goldblum is going to have a 2 second cameo.

Holy Cow! The Animated Spider-Man Movie Looks Amazing!
I never had much faith in Sony’s announced animated Spider-Man movie. I just wasn’t sure why it exists. Aren’t the Spider-Man: Homecoming movies going to be enough?
Nope! Holy cow, the first trailer for the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse looks freakin’ amazing! The animation is gorgeous!
Now I’m really excited for this movie! They can do Spider-Man stunts and movements that a live action movie just can’t match. Bring it on! And hooray for Miles Morales!

Flashpoint is a Terrible Idea for a Movie
Heaven knows if we’re ever actually going to get a Flash standalone movie. After the rocky start it’s already had trying to settle on a director, and the box office disappointment of Justice League, there’s just no guarantee at this point if the Scarlet Speedster will come to the big screen anytime soon.
But if he does, they should definitely not make the movie Flashpoint.
I say this knowing full well that Flashpoint is the plan at the moment. At least I’m pretty sure that’s what Warner Bros. has released so far. I think it’s a very, very, very bad idea, and a stupid idea to boot.
Join me after the jump to find out why I think so!
