The 6 Coolest Alternate Deadpools
Deadpool is a pretty darn popular character these days, what with a big movie sequel coming out at the end of the week. Me, being a finger-on-the-pulse kind of guy, I’ve decided to tie-in this week’s List of Six with the release of Deadpool 2! How about that?!
My weekend plans
The problem is that I don’t actually read a lot of Deadpool comics. Or any Deadpool comics, honestly. I like the character just fine, but I don’t have a handful of favorite Deadpool moments or zingers out of which to make a list. Instead, I’ve decided to do a list of the best alternate Deadpools! There have been a bunch of alternate reality, alternate future, and replacement Deadpools throughout the years and it’s time they were bundled into one place! Or, at least, bundled into one place by me.

Why is the Mission Impossible Film Franchise So Completely Meaningless?
I do not understand the continued existence of the Mission Impossible film franchise. There have been six films over the past 20 years, and the new one, Mission Impossible: Fallout, looks like it’s going to be a big release later this year. But despite all of this, from what I can see, the Mission Impossible series has zero impact on the pop culture landscape.
The only thing anybody remembers about the Mission Impossible movies is that one really cool scene from the first film, where Tom Cruise descended into a room via all those cool ropes.
Sole cultural impact
Does anybody have any idea about anything that happened in any of the other films? Without looking it up, can anybody even name the other Mission Impossible films? The fourth and fifth movies had sub-titles instead of numbers. Do those sub-titles have anything to do with the plots?
I know I’ve seen some of the Mission Impossible movies, but I can’t tell you which ones I’ve seen. Honestly, it’s entirely possible I’ve seen them all, but I don’t even remember that much! Does the franchise have a singular, ongoing storyline? Or does the Mission Impossible team simply get betrayed by some new government villain each movie?
Why do these movies keep getting made? Do they have any impact on the world whatsoever? Or are they just known as those movies where Tom Cruise does all those crazy stunts? And sometimes gets hurt?
The reason I bring this up is because there’s one line in the trailer for Mission Impossible: Fallout that bugs me. Ving Rhames, who has apparently been in every Mission Impossible movie, says, “Oh, you know, same old Ethan.” You can find it at 2:00 in the trailer:
And I thought to myself…do we really know the “same old” Ethan Hunt? Does Ethan Hunt have any impact on anything? Does he have established character or personality traits? Is there anything unique about Ethan Hunt? Or is it just Tom Cruise?
We all know everything about James Bond. And Jason Bourne and the unique aspects of his character and movies are well known. The Fast and the Furious movies have a pretty compelling motor vehicle gimmick that keeps them going.
But what is the point of the Mission Impossible movies?
Who really knows anything about Ethan Hunt?
Why do these movies keep getting made?!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/12/18
Just one week until Deadpool 2 comes out! If only I was reading Deadpool comics and could link these reviews and that movie in some way. I guess I’ve just got to wait until Marvel makes that Squirrel Girl movie.
Lots of good comics this week, I enjoyed almost everything. I still think Exiles is terrible, but Domino, Runaways, Squirrel Girl and Detective Comics are still a blast! And Comic Book of the Week goes to the kick-off issue of the Justice League: No Justice storyline. It’s big and fun!

Gonna Be a New Predator Movie
I didn’t watch a lot of movies growing up in the 80s and 90s. We just weren’t a family that went to the theater or rented anything that wasn’t PG. Name nearly any classic 80s movie and I probably didn’t see it until years later in college or adulthood. The original Predator, for example.
But hey, there’s a new movie! The Predator!
I have zero interest in the Predator franchise. I’m pretty sure I’ve only ever seen that original movie, and like I said, that was only after leaving college. But unless MoviePass goes belly up before this film comes out, I’mma gonna go see The Preadtor. Why the heck not?

Good News, Everybody! They Didn’t Kill Strong Guy!
A couple months ago, I was really worried that Marvel was going to kill Strong Guy in their New Mutants comic. It just seemed inevitable. I don’t normally get to have nice things in comics.
But good news! The issue in question came out this week and Strong Guy lived! Isn’t that great?
Trust me, it’s great
Of course, somebody else died, so it sucks for fans of that character. But that’s not me. For once, I got what I wanted, and I was wrong earlier. I’m man enough to admit when I’m wrong.
