Doctor Who is Coming Back for Christmas!

For the past several years, Doctor Who switched to New Year’s Eve/Day specials. Good for them! But now the 15th Doctor is bringing us back to Christmas! Which is also fun. I’m indifferent to these choices. But I liked Ncuti Gatwa’s first season and am looking forward to a new adventure.

Looks fun! Does he meet a version of himself from shortly in the future? That’s always neat. I do enjoy when Doctor Who actually messes around with time travel. And Nicola Coughlan was great in Derry Girls, so I’m excited to see her as a temp holiday companion. So I’m all in!

Doctor Who’s “Joy to the World” comes out Christmas Day on Disney+.

If You Like Indiana Jones, There’s Going to be a Video Game!

The launch trailer arrived yesterday for the upcoming video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I haven’t been following this game development at all because I’m not a big Indiana Jones guy and this game does not look like my usual style. But I’m sharing it anyway because maybe you’re both of those things!

Looks like an Uncharted or Tomb Raider game with a lot of first person elements, and a ton of story involvement. Lots of puzzles to solve. The whip is a major weapon. This could end up being just a really fun, interactive Indiana Jones adventure…which, honestly, is perfect for video games and anything else. I’m not someone who is slavishly beholden to the casting of Harrison Ford as Indy. Was he great in the role once upon a time? Obviously. But we’ve had plenty of great James Bonds.

Anyway, if this is your cup of tea, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle comes to all platforms on Dec. 9, so it’s less than a week away! Consider it an early Christmas present to yourself.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 11/30/24

Happy American Thanksgiving, everyone! I had a lovely holiday with family, and then squeezed in a bunch of comics this week. Stuff like Absolute Wonder Woman and Mystique, even!

Comic Book of the Week goes to the first issue of Justice League Unlimited because I would say it lives up to the hype and excitement of what this comic could be.

Where are the Wonder Twins?!

Meanwhile, I’m on vacation for the week ahead and am loading up on video games to play. I’ve got another Baldur’s Gate 3 playthrough in me. I’m finally gonna try Hades because it’s on sale. And the Sniper Elite 5 DLC I’d been waiting to go on sale is now on sale, so that too! All of this is to say I’ve convinced myself not to buy Dragon Age: The Veilguard at full price, which is what I had been planning.

Also, this is gonna sound weird…but both Marvel and DC have comics that feature a character named Tuatara this week. When I saw the names, I wasn’t sure what I was reading, but I Googled and both characters have existed in past comics. So they aren’t brand new. It’s just that…two very different writers on two very different comics for two different companies…both decided to use their company’s Tuatara for a brief cameo appearance in comics that came out on the same week?!

Also, a Tuatara is a lizard from New Zealand, if you didn’t know, which I didn’t.

Comic Reviews: Absolute Wonder Woman #2, Iron Man #2, Justice League Unlimited #1 and Mystique #2.

Secret Level Looks Like a Good Watch

We recently got another, fuller trailer for the upcoming video game anthology show Secret Level, from the same brilliant people who made Love, Death, Robots. I think it looks pretty neat!

I’ve always wanted the people who make those awesome, highly detailed World of Warcraft cut scenes to make a full WoW TV show. Secret Levels doesn’t have WoW, but this animation looks very similar in animation. So this is going to be close, or even the closest thing we’ll ever get. Awesome, highly detailed animation for a bunch of different video games. I’ll take it!

Secret Level comes to Amazon Prime on Dec. 10, so next weekend!

I Don’t Like Keanu Reeves as the Voice of Shadow the Hedgehog

The voice just isn’t working for me. We’ve heard only snippets in a pair of trailers so far, and I just can’t put the voice and the character together in my mind. I can’t wrap my head around it. I just hear Keanu, in a rather flat, but also kinda normal for him performance. And I don’t hear Shadow, this crazy, energy-filled new villain character.

See it for yourself in this new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The movie itself looks…like a Sonic sequel. It looks like a crazy, wild, mania-infused Sonic threequel. And that’s fine. I’ve never been the biggest fan of these films, but I’ve watched them and the Knuckles show and I’ll definitely see Sonic 3 in the theaters. And then the voice will probably work for me. I guess I just have to have faith in this crazy world we live in. Things will probably work out…with this movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 comes to theaters on Dec. 20, so it’s a month away.
