My Top 6 One Season Wonders

This weekend saw the final nail in the coffin for comic book TV show Y: The Last Man. The first season aired this past fall before being unceremoniously cancelled by Hulu and FX. Show runner Eliza Clark tried like hell to find a new home for it, but she announced this past weekend that all efforts had been exhausted and Y: The Last Man was truly dead. It’s doubling a shame because I was finally watching the show and was in the middle of that first season when I heard the news. Such is my timing.

Get it?

The thing is, I really enjoyed the first season of Y: The Last Man. This is a painful show to lose just as it’s really getting started and getting good. So I thought I’d do up a whole list of awesome shows we lost after just one season. There are plenty of lists like this on the internet. I even used some of them to jog my memory. Some of these shows are older, and some of them are more recent. And all of them are my personal preference. I haven’t seen every single One Season Wonder that’s ever been on television. But this handful of great shows still hold a solid place in my heart.

Join me after the jump for my favorite TV shows that only got one season. And feel free to share some of your own in the comments!

Moon Knight Looking All Fancy

The next Disney+ Marvel Studios show is going to be Moon Knight, and last night we got the first full trailer for the series! It’s dark, spooky, weird and is raising hopes for a truly wild show.

I am no big Moon Knight fan. Just not my cup of tea. I read that awesome Warren Ellis series a few years ago, but this show doesn’t look to follow that storyline. So I have no idea what to expect! It could be anything, and it’s definitely going to be weird. My hopes are definitely up. What’d you all think of this trailer?

Moon Knight comes to Disney+ on March 30.

I Mostly Like the New Batgirl Movie Costume

There’s really going to be a Batgirl movie coming out later this year. It’s going to star Leslie Grace, with a return of J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon. Filming has started, so set photos have started leaking. Well this past weekend, Grace and Warner Bros decided to get out ahead of those leaks and just reveal the Batgirl costume to the world on her Instagram.

I like it, though I do think it’s a little too glossy in this picture. She’s a street-level vigilante, not a character in a parade. Still, the costume is clearly based on the Batgirl of Burnside era, which I loved. So I’m all for that as a foundation. It had some fun stories, some original villains, a great social life for Babs and much more. There’s also clearly a bit of original 1960s Yvonne Craig Batgirl in the costume, which I’m not as cool with. Let the past stay in the past. DC needs to stop mining their mid-1900s TV shows and movies. Make a clean break!

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 1/15/22

So many comics are coming out these days! As you all know, I only review the comics I’m actually reading and usually enjoying. And for some reason, that’s led to two weeks in a row with so many comics! It’s neat! We’re talking Batgirls, Robins, Mighty Morphin, Spider-Man; so many comics!

Comic Book of the Week goes to Robin & Batman #3 for a wonderful wrap-up to this delightful little series. I don’t think it’s anything too groundbreaking, but as a big Robin fan, I love some good, solid, entertaining Robin storytelling. I’m a sucker for classic Dynamic Duo action.

Watch out for rocks!

Meanwhile, I finished the first season of Wheel of Time and I enjoyed it. I’ve never read the books or had any clue what this story was about, but the show really grew on me across the season. I’ve also started the first season of Y: The Last Man and I’m loving this show. It’s going to be so painful when the season ends and there’s no hope for a continuation. But perhaps it will convince me to reread the graphic novels.

Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #85, Batgirls #2, Darkhawk #5, Mighty Morphin #15, Robin & Batman #3 and Robins #4.

I’m on the Fence About Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Later today, Marvel is going to announce which new X-Man won the poll, and I’m gonna share that as soon as I can. Until then, how about a long gameplay trailer for the upcoming video game Pokemon Legends: Arceus? Those two things go together, right?

I’m on the fence about this game. I do finally own a Nintendo Switch, so I can play it. And I’ve played pretty much every main Pokemon game since the very beginning. But I think Arceus may be the company biting off more than they can chew. I don’t really have faith in the people who make Pokemon games to make Arceus everything they’re promising. So I’m probably gonna wait for reviews and feedback on this one before buying.

But it still looks neat! Pokemon Legends: Arceus comes out on Jan. 28.
