Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 5/28/22
If you’re reading this post when it goes up on Saturday morning, I am already on my way to sunny California! Should be a fun vacation. Thankfully, I was able to read and review a couple of this week’s pretty good comics before heading to the airport.
Comic Book of the Week goes to Legion of X #1. I was definitely looking forward to this comic and it mostly did not disappoint.
Meanwhile, the third season of Love, Death, Robots turned out to be pretty darn good on Netflix. Definitely worth a watch. While Mike Meyers’ big return, The Pentaverate, was so bad that I stopped watching halfway through. It was only six half-hour episodes, but I still couldn’t bring myself to keep watching.
Comic Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man #2, Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #3, Legion of X #1 and Saga #59.

We’ve known for a very long time now that Star Wars: Rogue One character Cassian Andor would be getting his own spin-off TV show. And since he dies at the end of that movie, it’s a prequel. Nobody is very sure what Andor is going to be about, but the first trailer arrived yesterday as part of Star Wars: Celebration. And it looks cool and funky!
I love the look of this trailer. It’s a bit wild, a bit gnarly, and looks like some solid action and intrigue around the early days of the rebellion. I’m all for that kind of exploration. And hopefully Andor himself turns out to be a cool character on his own. We can hope, right? There’s no reason he can’t be cool as hell in his own show!
Andor comes to Disney+ on Aug. 31.

6 Things I Want to See in a Revived Daredevil Show
Quite recently, the Hollywood trades confirmed the swirling rumors that Marvel Studios is going to bring back the Daredevil TV show that aired for three seasons on Netflix. They’re bringing back Charlie Cox as Daredevil and, if word is to be believed, it’s going to be something of a soft reboot. The first three seasons will still have happened, but the show will perhaps get a fresh coat of paint.
I am all in favor of this idea. I very much enjoyed the Daredevil show, and I’m super pleased at the idea of it coming back. Obviously Disney and Marvel can do whatever they want with the Daredevil brand/franchise, but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That original show was pretty spectacular, and if courting the fans is something you’re keeping in mind, then definitely revive and refresh instead of reboot. It makes sense.
But what’s the new show going to have? Join me after the jump for six ideas I want to see as we move from old show to new. And feel free to share some of your own thoughts/hopes/dreams in the comments!

Only a few short weeks after that awesome teaser, we’ve now got a full trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie looks great, and then Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher villain shows up and looks freaky as hell!
Like all other sane human beings, I can’t wait for Thor: Love and Thunder. Ragnarok was amazing and hilarious, and everybody is back to make another one of those. Taika Waititi is a hell of a director and I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table for this new one. For example, holy cow, Gorr the God Butcher looks sublime in this new trailer.
We’ve had some toy and promo artwork revealed for the character, and who knew what it would all translate into. Now that we’ve got him on screen, in full makeup, doing his Christian Bale thing, Gorr looks great. I am thrilled at how he looks.
I’m thrilled about the whole dang thing! Thor: Love and Thunder comes to theaters in, like, a month on July 8.

TV Trailers Out the Wazoo!
I’ve been sitting on a bunch of TV show trailers for no particular reason other than to take up time on a Monday. And guess what? It’s a Monday! So on the off chance you haven’t seen any of these yet, enjoy some trailers for some upcoming big ticket TV shows.
First up is the trailer for the third season of the Umbrella Academy.
Love this show, love how season 3 looks. I never read the comics so I don’t know if we’re still following existing stories or if the TV show is off on its own road. Doesn’t matter to me. It’s all good, and season 3 should be just as good as the rest. Everybody on the team seems to be on the same page, so at least they won’t be butting heads the whole season.
Umbrella Academy returns to Netflix on June 22.
Next, how about we take a peak at the upcoming fourth season of Westworld!
I will probably watch Westworld, but I can’t be sure. I barely remember what happened in season 3, and I definitely barely remember what the larger, ongoing narrative has been. I’m pretty sure I liked season 3, but again, I honestly don’t remember. Did I even finish the season?
Whatever the case may be, Westworld season 4 comes to HBO Max on June 26.
Finally, the first trailer for the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.
Honestly, I have no interest in this show. I loved Game of Thrones as much as the next person. Heck, I’m even one of those rare weirdos who was perfectly content with the final seasons and the finale. It all ended perfectly fine by me. But a prequel? Set thousands of years in the past? And is basically a story we already know from Game of Thrones? No thank you.
I just don’t know what this show can possibly offer. A bunch of Targaryen in-fighting? And some less-memorable CGI dragons? It feels so desperate.
But what do I know? I’ll probably watch it eventually.
House of the Dragon comes to HBO Max on Aug. 21.
