Realistic Computer-Animated Animal Technology is Really Good These Days
A couple new movie trailers arrived yesterday to wow us with how cool animals look in CGI these days! Animals and Pokemon!
Oh man, look how cool those Pokemon are! I’m pretty sure that trailer only exists because the world has gone crazy for the Detective Pikachu critters! I know I have. And those are some real greats buried in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-them montage. All this movie has to do to advertise is show more of the Pokemon!
And all the live action Lion King remake has to do is exist, honestly. Just show the animals and play the classic songs and scenes and you’ve got yourself a trailer!
Looks great! I really enjoyed the live action Jungle Book, so I have high hopes for this film. Dumbo was a dud, but the Lion King has hope.
Though am I the only one disappointed that Scar isn’t a different color? I realize his cartoon color probably wasn’t natural for lions, but he looks too…normal in this trailer.

6 Things I Want to See in a Pokemon Cinematic Universe
With the Detective Pikachu movie already hyped up beyond belief, there was talk recently of a potential Pokemon Cinematic Universe. Word has it that the studio behind Detective Pikachu is already working on a Pokemon Red and Blue movie set in the same world, with all these awesome and adorable realistic-looking animated Pokemon.
Bring it on, I say!
Like everyone else in the world, I am mesmerized by the Pokemon in the Detective Pikachu movie trailers. They look so amazing! Adorable and realistic and crazy to exist! I have been a Pokemon fan since the Pokemon Red and Blue games first came out. I’ve got my favorites and I’ve got my hopes and dreams. And since I probably won’t be able to play Pokemon Sword and Shield, this movie franchise might be just what I need to get my Pokemon fix.
Seriously, I never stopped playing Pokemon Go. I’m that deep.
Join me after the jump for what I’d like from a Pokemon Cinematic Universe!
Pokemon Sword and Shield Is Ultimate Temptation
The next generation of Pokemon games is here! Pokemon Sword and Shield will be released on the Nintendo Switch later this year, marking the very first time a main Pokemon game will come to a console instead of the Nintendo handheld.
Which is the very reason I probably won’t get to play this one.
The video looks great! The graphics, the world, the everything; it looks like the classic Pokemon game, while reveling in the true size and power of a console. It’s everything we Pokemon fans could possibly want!
Except I’m probably not about to shell out $300 for a Nintendo Switch.
Here are the new starters. I think I’m leaning towards the grass starter. Looks like a parrot/monkey hybrid. Though I’ll save my final decision for when I see their final evolutions.
Though I’ll probably never get to play.
Look, I thought I’d sworn off consoles years ago by switching to full-time Steam games on PC. Then I went and splurged $400 on a Playstation 4 last year! Now you expect me to spend another $300 on a Nintendo Switch just so that I can play Pokemon Sword and/or Shield?
Granted, there’s a bunch of other Switch games I’d love to play, but I’m not made of money for video game consoles! And granted, I bought both my Nintendo DS and my Nintendo 3DS specifically to play the newly released Pokemon game, and rarely ever played any other handheld games. But I largely regretted spending so much just to play the new Pokemon game.
So no, this isn’t happening. I’m not buying a Nintendo Switch.
Probably.

New Detective Pikachu Trailer Threatens My Sanity
I have been a fan of pokemon since Red/Blue, when I randomly decided to get the game for my old school original Game Boy after reading a magazine article. I’ve played every main generation…though I completely avoided the card game, all spin-off video games and barely watched the anime. So maybe I’m not the world’s biggest fan.
But the very existence of the Detective Pikachu movie is blowing my freakin’ mind!
This is pure madness. How else do you explain this trailer? All those realistic looking pokemon! All those surprises! And I love that song! That this movie exists, and could be amazing, and could kick off a whole new franchise of realistic live action pokemon movies, is just the sweetest idea ever.
Though I don’t really like Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu.
Also, somebody ask me about my Master Six pokemon fan fiction. I’ve been sitting on those ideas since I was a teenager writing fan fiction.

Mortal Kombat 11 is Coming – No Sign of Smoke, Yet
I’m an OK Mortal Kombat fan. I’ve been playing it all these years and there’s little doubt that I’ll eventually dive into Mortal Kombat 11 when it comes out in a couple months. But I’ll admit that my interest in the game revolves almost solely around whether or not my favorite character Smoke appears in the game.
I’ve written about this before on the blog: Smoke is my all-time favorite video game character. The perfect storm of unlocking his fight in MK2 and being generally interested in all of the palette-swapped ninjas (my future band name) turned me onto the gray one, and then I really dig the story that he was Sub-Zero’s best friend, who was betrayed by their clan and turned into a robot assassin, only to still have a good soul trapped inside. There have been a lot of ups and downs with Smoke over the years, but he’s still my boy.
I’m also a big fan of Mortal Kombat lore. I once bought the guidebook to Mortal Kombat Trilogy just to have an encyclopedia of characters at the ready. I didn’t own a video game console at the time, let along an actual copy of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. It was just fun like that.
Here’s hoping Mortal Kombat 11 is good! And that it eventually includes Smoke in some capacity.
