Let’s Take Another Look at the Steven Universe TV Movie!

Steven Universe is getting a big relaunch next week with a made-for-TV movie! The show is technically still going, I think, even though the last season finale was absolutely epic. The movie is going to see a 2-year time jump, during which our boy is finally going to grow up a little bit!

It looks great to me! My only real gripe with the show is that one episode where it states that Steven is growing up at a slower rate. It was a dumb idea. I realize they probably wanted to keep him in his familiar kid form for the bulk of the show, but it’s not like the show spanned years. The entire show is about Steven maturing! Let’s see that happen! Let him grow up!

With this movie, it looks like they might be, and I am stoked! The movie drops on Sept. 2.

The Mandalorian Looks Pretty Sweet!

The first trailer for The Mandalorian — the first ever live action Star Wars TV show — was  unveiled the other night at the D23 Disney convention. It looks pretty darn sweet!

I’m excited for this show. I’m excited for most things Star Wars. I am that exact sort of fanboy who is going to gobble up any and all of this nostalgia-driven new material. Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show with Ewan MacGregor returning to the role? Hell to the yes!

Dusty, badass TV show about a lone bounty hunter dressed in Mandalorian armor? You’re goddamned right I’m getting Disney+!

Black Knight and U.S. Agent are Coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

There was a bunch of cool Marvel Cinematic Universe news this weekend at the D23 Disney convention. We now know that Black Panther 2 is coming out in May 2022, for example. And there were some more Eternals cast members named.

But coolest news for me is that Kit Harrington has been cast as the Black Knight in the Eternals movie, and Wyatt Russell has been cast as U.S. Agent in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show!

Black Knight Harrington 02

How cool is that?

US Agent Russell 01

I am loving the fact that so many nifty, smaller Marvel characters are getting cast to actually appear in things. Like David Harbour as the Red Guardian in the Black Widow movie.

Black Knight is an ancient knight from King Arthur times, who wields the Ebony Blade. Harrington is playing Dane Whitman, the modern day incarnation of the Black Knight. He is a longtime Avenger in the comics, though a minor character by far. He should be cool.

I’m more excited about U.S. Agent.

For those who don’t know, the U.S. Agent was the government’s replacement Cap when Steve Rogers abandoned the role back in the 1980s. He’s more of a company man than Rogers, often going to extremes to follow orders and be a good government boy. And it makes total sense in the MCU for the government to want their own replacement Captain America, and to not just let Sam Wilson take over because Steve Rogers said it’s OK.

I hope to see U.S. Agent as a friendly antagonist, someone how is opposed to Falcon and Bucky, but is still on the side of the good guys in the bigger picture. And perhaps they all have to work together in the end to take on Baron Zemo.

Those Geniuses! They’ve Done It! My Ms. Marvel Dreams Are Alive!

Sweet Joseph McGillicutty! If you thought Marvel was worried about losing Spider-Man, they are apparently more than ready to just continue full steam ahead with everything else they’ve got at the ready! At the D23 convention tonight, they have announced new TV shows for Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and She-Hulk!

They’re coming to the Disney+ streaming service in the years ahead, so they’ll be made by Marvel Studios and not Marvel TV.

MsMarvel TV 02

Moon Knight TV 02

She Hulk TV 02

We don’t have any details yet on what these shows will contain. Maybe we’ll learn more as the weekend continues, and I’ll gladly share anything that I learn. But man, this is damn exciting.

I think a Marvel Studios-produced TV show is the perfect way to introduce Kamala Khan, especially if it means she can jump to the movies eventually (Young Avengers!).

And while I’ve been previously opposed to bringing She-Hulk into the MCU, I think she’d work perfectly with the new Professor Hulk we’ve got!

What a time to be alive! Here’s hoping I make it to 40 so I can see all of these! Just hook it to my veins!

Those Maniacs! They Blew It Up! My She-Ra Dreams Are Dead!

God damn you all to Hell! Kevin Smith has announced that he’s going to showrun a Netflix revival of the original Masters of the Universe cartoon from the 1980s. Not a reboot, but a continuation of wherever that original He-Man cartoon left off. Ridiculous.

It’s going to be called Masters of the Universe: Revelation.

HeMan Revelation 01

First of all, what a dumb name. Could you be any more generic? Did someone not like Masters of the Universe: Vengeance?

Second of all, who really cares or remembers how the original 1980s cartoon left off? I watched that cartoon as lovingly as I watched all the other 80s cartoons and I don’t care one lick! I know that original Masters of the Universe fans still exist, but come oooon. Are those few people really so passionate as to catch Netflix’s attention? So much so that it has to be a continuation and not a reboot?

Third of all, I’m just really salty that this garbage is probably going to supersede He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cast joining the amazing She-Ra and the Princesses of Power cartoon. I just did a List of Six about this, people! That’s supposed to be part of the She-Ra endgame!

Grumble grumble.
