Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 4/7/18

We’ve got something of a light week this week, though a lot of nice comics came out. I think I need to start picking up some new titles after so many of my favorites got cancelled. I’m thinking of trying out the new Iron Man and Fantastic Four when they arrive, along with the big Justice League and Avengers relaunches in the coming months. Anybody have any comics they’d like to see me take on? Let me know in the comments!

Comic Book of the Week goes to the first half of Runaways. It’s as darling as I could have hoped for. But then it just ruins itself! For my money, I would definitely prefer a guest appearance by Julie Power over Doctor Doom in any comic book.

Molly agrees!

In comics I’m reading but not reviewing, another delightful issue of Rogue & Gambit hit the stands and it’s just as much fun as the rest. I can’t wait to see what writer Kelly Thompson does next for Marvel.

Also, I’ve dropped Marvel Two-in-One now that we know Fantastic Four is coming back. It’s an OK issue. Better than the previous issue, but I’ve decided to drop the series rather than continue to nitpick it to death.

Comic Reviews: All-New Wolverine #33, Amazing Spider-Man #798, Batman #44 and Runaways #8.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/31/18

Happy Easter Weekend, everybody! If you celebrate! For me, it’s just another good excuse to go home and visit with my folks and whatever family shows up for dinner. Should be fun.

You know what else is fun? Comics! Lots of diverse comics this week, mostly from DC. They gave us another chapter of Doomsday Clock, and the Power Rangers comic kicked off their first Big Event with Shattered Grid! But Comic Book of the Week goes to the final issue of Dark Knights: Metal for being all manner of intense comic book insanity.

It was hard to pick just one out-of-context panel that would still be a singularly awesome introductory image

Meanwhile, Marvel announced the return of a proper Fantastic Four comic, like we all knew they would eventually. It’s only been about two years and Marvel did very little with the missing team — though what they did do, with Brian Michael Bendis’ Infamous Iron Man, was phenomenal! I don’t particularly care about the Fantastic Four, but I’ll definitely pick it up, since the creative team is Dan Slott and Sara Pichelli. If Slott can do for the Fantastic Four what he did for Silver Surfer, then I’ll probably fall in love all over again.

Also, I read Green Lantern: Earth One this week and it was really good! Solid re-imagining of Hal Jordan and his Green Lantern origins.

Comic Reviews: Dark Knights: Metal #6, Detective Comics #977, Doomsday Clock #4, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, The Silencer #3 and The Terrifics #2.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/24/18

Allow me to use this space as a warning to all: don’t get old! Apparently I’ve developed seasonal allergies! Ugh! This sucks! I want my face back!

Anyway, buncha fun comics this week, from Batman to Ms. Marvel to a big and epic Mighty Thor. Comic Book of the Week was a tough call between the delightful new issue of Runaways and the dramatic Mighty Thor, but I think Thor gets a nudge ahead for being such a milestone issue.

I’m so glad writer Jason Aaron is sticking with Thor for the forseeable future, though I’m disappointed that artist Russell Dauterman is leaving the series. Wherever Dauterman goes next, it’s bound to be amazing.

Comic Reviews: Batman #43, Mighty Thor #705, Ms. Marvel #28 and Runaways #7.

Hench-Sized Comic Book Reviews – 3/17/18

There’s a bunch of fun comics this week! From Detective Comics and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl to the launch of the new New Mutants mini-series! I would have done a Strong Guy Watch for the issue, but I figured Guido being part of a regular series again was enough of a watch!

Comic Book of the Week goes to another phenomenal issue of Mister Miracle! A new baby is born, and I’m growing more and more paranoid about how writer Tom King is going to destroy our very souls by the end!

Ironbreaker 01

‘Ironbreaker’ is a strong name

What did everybody else think of Jessica Jones? If, like me, you weren’t a fan, I highly recommend The Tick on Amazon Prime! Now that was a fun superhero TV show!

6 Thoughts on the Second Season of Jessica Jones

I did not like the second season of Jessica Jones. I kind of hated almost everything about it. I am honestly going to sit here and tell you that I found it less entertaining than Iron Fist. You are more than welcome to disagree with me. I hope you enjoyed this season of television. But I did not. Oh man, I did not.

JJones 2 Review 01

TV Rating: 3/10 – Bad.

I loved the first season of Jessica Jones. It was gripping, exciting, had a very important message and starred some really awesome characters, Jessica Jones especially. So the fact that most, if not all, of the same people could return and make this horrible season is mind-boggling! How did it go so wrong? Why did anybody think this was a good TV show? How can they mess it up this much after such a stellar first season?

Join me after the jump for my thoughts and review on the second season of Jessica Jones! Warning, there will be FULL SPOILERS from the show. And please share your own thoughts on the show in the comments!
